Milani Baked Metallic Eyeshadow: Mix It Up

Milani Mix It Up Baked Metallic Eyeshadow ($7.49 for 0.05 oz.) is a blackened base with iridescent teal and silver shimmer. When used wet, it’s absolutely gorgeous–really rich and luxuriously deep in color. Used dry, less of the iridescent and sheen is visible and has a slightly powdery finish. Milani notes that these should be used dry for a softer look and wet for something more intense, which is why I think the pigmentation is as expected based on Milani’s claims.

I do wish they’d ditch the sponge/brush applicator, though, because the bristles are splayed and scratchy, while the sponge is thin and surprisingly scratchy. I did like the switch to a black interior, over the champagne gold from the Runway Eyeshadows. The lid is also quite secure, and I had to pry it open with my nails.

For something that's not quite black but still has plenty of drama, Mix It Up is a great affordable option.

  2. I have to say, I am REALLY liking this color. =D

  3. I just swatched this yesterday and left it there. I might go back, especially since CVS has buy one get one 50% off this week. Its super pretty.

  4. Daniel

when using wet do you use fix+ or water? :) gorgeous shade btw :)

  5. Does anyone know how this compares to Too Faced Galaxy Glam in Deep Space?

    • Denise F.

Less pigmented than the Too Faced ones. And less holding power on the eyelids.I like Too Faced much better. I have several of their Galaxy shadows. I use distilled or purified drinking water, w/ my colors. Never from the tap. I noticed having fall out, from this line. Or, you could mix it, w/ Too Faced Shadow Insurance; or another primer, and lay it down on the eye.

Is this similar to MAC’s Deep Blue Green pigment? It looks fairly close.

  7. This color is absolutely stunning! Want want want! Thanks for turning me on to these!

  8. Mirabella Beauty

gorgeous color! I can’t wait to wear this. Yea, I was curious about the applicator. Does the curve make it awkward to use?

    • It’s trash – it’s scratchy and splayed. I would never use it. I’d use fingers before that brush, since all it does is cause my whole lid to turn red.

  9. Carolina

LOVE…but won’t know how to wear it, can u do a look with it please :)

  10. Ooh, I like it, even though I don’t like teals/am burned out on greens!

Wow, I find myself really liking this color. A lot of “blackened” shades end up way too black to hardly be worth owning separate from doing some blending with actual black.

I could see myself using this with a white, glittery color (sometimes I think I’m the only one in the world that LOVES UD’s Uzi), and then a nice pop of teal eyeliner on the waterline.

  12. For some reason this eyeshadow reminds me of Deborah Lippmann’s “Don’t Tell Mama” nail polish and I love these kinds of teal-green-blacks!

  13. Avatar of Melissa Melissa

reminds me a little of blue flame from style black

  14. This looks really similar to the Blue Flame Mineralize eyeshadow from Style Black, just more black, and teal vs blue.

  15. ashley

this looks exactly like the mac mineralize duo from the villains collection, the malefecent one with the blue and green

OH! I’m sold just by the swatches! I am going to buy this online since our town doesn’t have a cvs/walgreens and our wal-mart (is not super center) does not have a big selection.
