Beauty on a Budget: Maybelline Irresistibly Ivy Eyeshadow Quad
Maybelline Eye Studio Irresistibly Ivy Eyeshadow Quad ($8.49) is a mix of four eyeshadows that can be used together or alone. They’re very soft, slightly powdery shades, so it’s better to use a tapping technique, rather than sweeping/brushing it on a lot. Think less windshield-wiper motions when applying these with a brush. I find that this is just something that holds true for all softer shadows (e.g. Stila and Urban Decay).
Irresistibly Ivy includes a softly shimmered champagne beige; rich, orange-copper with golden shimmer; matte teal with glitter sparkle; and reddened bronze-copper. I found that the orange-copper shade had the best texture and color pay off–very smooth and true-to-color. The teal had a little more of a dusty feel to it, since it’s more of a matte base with shimmer on top.
For drugstore beauty, the pay off is intense and over a good primer (e.g. UDPP), I had no problems with the color popping and staying true. I found minimal fading after eight hours, so they’re not quite as good as some of my favorite eyeshadows, but for the price, they’re an excellent alternative for those on a budget–or would like to try certain colors without shelling out $15+ for one.

I am quite perplexed by the choice of colours... I mean, copper and teal? They're awful together!!! V PS: are you going to swatch also palettes for pink undertones?
I was just going to say how much I love that combination as well. I don't see how they don't really go together? Although I don't really think that THIS teal works 100% well with this copper, but I have a few teals that would look beautiful with this.
Well, with pink undertones, all bronze colours are terrible! They give to me the ill aspect, as if someone has beat me in my eyes. So no "warm brown" colours... I am quite good in suggestins colours to friends according to their colours (hair, eyes and skintone), so I can assure you that bronze is not good for pale pink skin! :-D Vale
Love what a great job they are doing with this new line!!! think finally going to check it out and get something!!!
I have really only been tempted by Milani mascaras and eyeshadows, a few Revlon Colorstay Products, the new Revlon foundation but wow drugstore brands are really stepping it up and I am so impressed with Maybelline lately. Other than my define a brow that I am addicted to, I have never liked Maybelline products but with these new eyeshadows and the gel liner I am so excited to check the drug store sale flyers on line each week to get the BOGO deals. Thanks for reviewing this...I just found four of them on Ebay for $20 w/ free shipping so I am excited I found that. Like I need another eyeshadow to add to the 400 I already have...better than drugs though right? LOL Thanks for the review!
NEED to get this one. Already planning on picking up two of these palettes but I didn't even see this one before!
Meh. Nothing I've never seen before; I basically have all of these colours already from other DS brands that offer more pigmentation. The blue and darker brown, they look slightly mediocre in terms of quality. I usually am not a huge fan of Maybelline eyeshadows though. I doubt I'll be checking these out unless they offered some really unique colours or really beautiful combinations in a set.
Sure. They are mostly all from the L'Oreal HIP line. I have a similar teal from my HIP Flashy duo, the copper colour looks similar to the HIP Flare duo, the darker brown looks quite similar (perhaps a little redder) to the HIP Forgiving duo, and I can't pinpoint which DS shadow the lightest shade reminds me of. It does however remind me of a loose shadow from the brand Micabella, which I cannot remember the name of. But it's not really a high end brand, but a little pricier than DS shadows.
I can tell you these are not your average Maybelline ES's. I hate DS brand eyeshadows more than anyone, however, I tried these and I liked them so much I bought one of each, all 12, of these palettes. They're not on par with the high end brands, but they're half way there - and WAY better than any DS brand I've ever tried. Don't write them off because they're maybelline - trust me, they're 100% better quality than anything I've seen from maybelline or any other drug store brand. I got mine when they were buy 2 get 1, so I enede up paying $6.00 each for them.
I'm not saying no to them because they are Maybelline (well, I somewhat am) or because they are drugstore. Half my shadows (if not more) are DS, and I prefer them to most of my higher end brands! I guess I'd have to swatch them in store. I just find that with most Maybelline shadows, they are.. chalky? But not. They just don't adhere well, even over my cream shadows.
I got sunset seduction and sapphire siren. I love the sunset one but hate the overly shimmery and glittery sapphire. IcK. but they are super soft and good quality.
I went to get this palette at my Target today, and they didn't have any of the Maybelline Eye Studio palettes! They only had the eyeliner from the Eye Studio collection :(
Wow, those swatches are pretty impressive! Though the reddish brown looks better in the pan than swatched :s
I'm definitely going to try these in the lilac/purple family. They are not colors I wear a lot but would like to experiment sometime. I can't believe you have them at $8.49 - they are $9.99 all the places I've seen them in NYC!
