Make Up For Ever HD Powder ($30.00) recently launched this past May, and it is a translucent finishing powder that is meant to work on all skin tones. It can be worn over foundation to set or alone, and it gives what MUFE calls a “soft focus” effect to the skin. It uses ultra fine, spherical micro-particles that are made up of 100% mineral silica powder. If that confuses you, just know that they reflect natural and artifical light, softening lines and imperfections on the screen and in person.

Break out your buffer brush (182, I love you), like MUFE’s Kabuki Brush ($39.00), which will be available this August, and buff this powder into your skin. A little goes a long way, so you can stretch your value as well as keep your skin feeling lightweight.  I prefer using this over my foundation, as it seems to give me a better appearance thusly. I am somewhat reminded of MAC’s Invisible Set. HD Powder does seem to help my foundation look good throughout the day, and it doesn’t let it settle into my fine lines as easily.

What do you think of makeup designed for HD? Do you feel like it makes a difference?

I got a fair-sized “trial” of this as one of my free gifts from Sephora…I have yet to use it. I tend to shy away from loose powders…messy!

I agree that loose powders can be messy, but usually they’re an easy mess to clean up, LOL.

Hi!

I actually got to try this out. I specifically asked the MUA at Sephora to use it on me when I had a makeover done.

She buffed it on over Smashbox tinted moisturizer.

The look was VERY natural and I felt like I didn’t have any makeup on at all! I’m a big fan of translucent powders for setting liquid and cream foundations (I often self-tan and have very weird often changing skin tone, so buying colored powders is a total waste of $$$!!), and they usually look mask-like or are really heavy. So I was very pleased with the results from MUFE’s HD powder!!

HP mufe powder is 100% silica.. at very high price !
Lala: it’s not like the blu ray powder from cargo.Mufe HD is invisible. But the cargo is tinted and has more coverage.
But girls, seriously, this powder is wonderful but it’s pricey when you see it’s only 100% silica for this price…
You can buy pure silica on tkbcosmetics, at a very tiny price.. and it has the same effect !

Hi Zu_

I hate to ask but I don’t seem to know all of the abbrevations. What is tkbcosmetics and what do they call their pure silica product? Also where can I get it? Both sound like something I would like but if I can get something at a lower price why not?

Thanks!

Actually translucent? Woo!

…I have this problem where some “translucent” powders have a colour on me. Usually a yellow colour. That just doesn’t work for me, what with me being pale and quite pink. Ha.

That’s a steep price but this REALLY seems like something that I need and have been needing for years. I have serious skin/foundation problems and it just gets worse and worse throughout the day. After an hour, most of my foundation is gone. I don’t even understand why. And then my skin is suddenly oily, out of nowhere, and then my foundation never looks right when reapplied! Ugh. This stuff sounds great. Thanks for the review, Christine. :)

Would you recommend Fix+ for my foundation dilemmas too? Does that help set foundation and make it last longer? I’ve never tried it…

If you try it, be sure to let us know how it goes, Skyler!

You may want to try Philosophy’s never let them see you shine primer, too.

I don’t like Fix+, personally, lol. Does nothing for me, feels like a mist of water.

I wonder if “HD technology” in makeup is just another gimmick that the cosmetics industry is using to sell more makeup. I wrote about this recently in my blog.

this makes my foundation(tarte smooth operator) last SO long and it seems to make my oily face fresh all day. i DO buff probably too much into my skin but it works great for me and doesn’t break me out, i just switched to this from studiofix and hve had ZERO pimples compared to my previous constellation face

Will this powder work with a brush like MAC’s #134? Or does it have to be a kabuki specifically? Thanks!

I think it’ll be okay with the 134!
