MAC Disney Venomous Villains Collection: Evil Queen Review, Photos, Swatches
Next up, we have the Evil Queen from Snow White. The Evil Queen’s “collection” includes two lipsticks, two lipglasses, three eyeshadows, one beauty powder, and one blush.
All of the character images are stamped on the products; they are not stickers. You can find official promotional imagery and color descriptions here. The collection launches on September 30th, 2010 at all MAC locations, October 2010 internationally, and approximately September 28th for online. You may also want to check your local store to see if they are holding an unveiling/preview party for the collection.
Lipglass ($15.50 U.S. / $18.50 CDN)
- Strange Potion is a lightly pink shimmered, soft pinky-coral that’s semi-opaque in coverage. This is a really beautiful shade of gloss–I can’t think of anything quite like it that MAC has put out. Very flattering on both cool and warm-toned skin.
- Hot House is a deep fuchsia-berry with iridescent fuchsia-purple shimmer. It applies and looks semi-opaque on lips. It originally was released in Strange Hybrid.
Lipstick ($15.50 U.S. / $18.50 CDN)
- Sinister is a semi-sheer brown with pinky-plum shimmer. It looks better on the lips than as a swatch. This has a lustre finish.
- Toxic Tale is a bright, opaque shade of nearly neon coral with an orange lean. Reminds me of Illamasqua Mistress, but in a lipstick form. Very, very pigmented–creamy but not slippery. This has a satin finish.
Eyeshadow ($15.50 U.S. / $18.50 CDN)
- Her Alter Image is a cool-toned icy, pale lilac with a veluxe pearl finish. It’s pigmented and purpler than Beautiful Iris, but it’s similar.
- Vile Violet is a darkened cool-toned violet with muted blue tones. This has a matte finish.
- Vainglorious is a bronzed burgundy with a frost finish. It’s similar to Cranberry, except a little browner, and it’s a bit darker and more burgundy than Star Violet–but it’s closest to Star Violet.
Blush ($19.50 U.S. / $23.50 CDN)
- Bite of an Apple is a brightened coral-pink blush that can really pack a punch! Very opaque, though it is blendable. This has a matte finish.
Beauty Powder ($25.00 U.S. / $30.00 CDN)
- Oh So Fair is a soft, petal pink with subtle shimmer-sheen. It’s sheer and looks very, very subtle on my medium skin tone. I wouldn’t recommend this shade for darker skin tones, because I think it would have a tendency to turn ashy.

Thanks, Kerri! Alpha Girl is kind of similar, since even though it looks a lot pinker… they are both pretty sheer. I think Oh So Fair may still be a little paler/powdery (in the it’s so light, it looks like powder sense).
hi, so i’m really wondering about getting hot house it looks beautiful on here, but my lips are pinker then yours and i’m kinda wondering wether the color will look good on me. For the color to come to it’s full effect what do you think works best? Like what kinda natural liptones will work?
I think the color would look good on you – Hot House is one of the more pigmented glosses. You could try patting a bit of peach on before.
hi, was kinda wondering if bite of an apple had any similarities to Joyous beauty powder blush. i love the color, i just know i happen to be attracted to pinky corals and tend to buy similar colors.
I would say it’s much, much redder… not really a coral.

Hi Christine! I wanted to ask you, if MAC lipglasses were sticky? I’m not a huge lipgloss wearer and I managed to skip MAC’s lipglosses until now, but strange potion looks so pretty on you…I don’t know if it worth it… and I also wanted to know, do you think bite of an apple would look good on NC25ish (20-25) skin (I own MAC’s dollymix and well dressed & gentle which kinda look the same on me and ladyblush. Shall I got bite of an apple (I don’t want to be clownish nor too bright)or is there something better from the permanent collection you would reccomend for my skinshade?

hey i love the swatches. i pre ordered at my nordstroms. i ordered de- vil and on the same day i picked up antique and amber lights. is de-vil close to any of those colors? so should i still keep that in my order or is it not nessesary? lol im torn

Bite of an Apple is pretty red, so if that’s not your thing, you could skip. It’s not really like Marine Life, though.

Do you use a brush to put your lipstick on? It’s so perfect…I just got Toxic Tale, I love it, but I’m not used to lipsticks with color…and I feel like i can’t get a perfect, even application with just the lipstick.

My lips are lightly pigmented and i believe i look best in cooler colors (think gaga l/s) but i have been wanting to venture out into color and the only “coral” i have is everhip. Just bought Toxic Tale today and cannot believe how much I love it! I’m addicted to bright, in-you-face colors, and wanted it immediately. I was afraid it wouldn’t look good in person, but was so happy to see how well it went with my pale skin. Definitely want to buy another so I don’t run out

I got my entire VV haul at a preview party 2 weeks ago and then regretted not having bought Hot House. Luckily, Mac’s site still had it as of last week and i ordered it. So glad i did cuz it just came in and it’s soooo beautifully pigmented and shimmery!

Hey, I was wondering if there are any similar colors to bite of an apple in the permanent collection? I recently went out to my nearest MAC store (over an hour away) and bought ‘gulp’ over 300$ worth of this collection (my first time ever buying MAC) and I don’t want to have to rush and buy the color again before it leaves. So are there any colors that you think are close enough in the permanent so I don’t have to buy an extra?
