MAC Venomous Villains

MAC Venomous Villains Collection for Disney

U.S. Launch Date: September 30th, 2010 (online as early as 9/27)
International Launch Date: October 2010

A potion to poison, an apple to bite, a spell to cast… Bad never looked so good. A crystal ball of colour created from our favourite Disney Venomous Villains, inspired by the three most infamously frosty, fabulous and formidable of Disney’s dark ladies… and one dastardly Dr. Facilier. Don’t you love it?

A MAC and Disney collaboration to celebrate the dark side in every one of us, in a glamorous sort of way. Who’s the fairest one of all? Four separate mini-collections, in haute animated couture. The incomparable Cruella De Vil and Snow White’s Evil Queen are dazzlingly devilish; Sleeping Beauty’s Maleficent and The Princess and the Frog’s DR. FACILIER, both up to no good on their own. Uniquely designed iconic packaging you will kill for, cunning characters and bedeviled beauties that are so alluring, you can’t help but wonder what it would be like to be one!

I wish they did Hades from Hercules, “Woah, did my hair go out?”. He’s the funniest villain ever! But I guess it wouldn’t go hahaha.

Oh well, I’ll pry get this stuff ‘cuz I’m a disney freak. Annual passes, woot!

    • sam

actually they could do some fun blue and gray lip colors or something and add a touch of red cos hades turns red when he gets mad.

  2. Trisha Mae!

They could have done SO much more with the packaging! ]: Disappoint</3

  3. Megan

Blah on the packaging. Why oh why did they chose dr. facilier??? I guess I’m old school Disney aka the 80s and early 90s Disney so I don’t even know who that is. He doesn’t seem to fit with the group even! Rather disappointing.

  4. Lilly

I am quite happy that the packaging is not pretty that way I won’t feel guilty depoting the eyeshadows.

  5. Roslynd

Ugh!!!!!! Why MAC? Why would you ruin such an amazing collection idea?!?? I am so upset with the garbage packaging and lack of any real new items. I can slap Disney stickers on my own products for about $1, same images too

    Ugh! So disappointed :(

  6. cookie

    I’m thinking where’s ursula?

  7. Natalie

I’m not excited about the packaging for this collection. Really MAC? This is the best you could do. FAIL.

  8. Vex

Personally, I feel that the disconnect comes mainly from the fact that you have three very striking female villains from classics released no later than the early sixties – and then one guy, from a movie released in 2009. I could be wrong – I haven’t seen the movie myself and am not familiar with the character – but it would seem that, as a character, he is not as much a part of, I guess, our collective culture, which means that you get the “Whaaa, who with the what is Dr. Facilier?” comments going on, on essentially all cosmetics forums I visit. You look at Cruella, and there’s the black and white hair, the plume of smoke. You look at the Evil Queen and you have very defined, arched brow and the inky lashes in contrast with the pallor, the almost femme-fatale brand of red lip. With Maleficent, you get that signature pale green with some spectacular purple shade – if I remember correctly, she’s even rocking red nail polish! Again, of course this is because I haven’t seen the movie, but you say “Dr. Facilier” and I get no mental image at all. While that is a selfish way of putting it, I think the same holds true for many MAC customers at this point – simply put, the movie has not been out long enough for it to be a culturally relevant point of reference.

Plus, there are so many female villains whom I would like to have seen! For instance, couldn’t you get some striking lavenders and pinks out of Madame Mim? Although I am glad that the poor “Alice in Wonderland” franchise isn’t being milked any further than Tim Burton has already seen to, the Queen of Hearts is certainly an interesting villain with an interesting brand of style: everything white must be red! The exclusion of Ursula seems to be the point of contention for many, and I can only agree. I can’t help but be a little bit disappointed in the focus of this collection – at least in part.

(Plus, I’m just saying, where are the funky lip colors? I know villains have made red lips kind of their trademark, but you know what’s awesome over red lips? Ice blue gloss! Poison green gloss! Straight-up wicked purple! If any time’s the time to be playing around with funky colors, surely it is the Venomous Villains collection? Not to mention, the eyes. A red eyeliner, a pure red shadow? I’d go for that! I’m getting so annoyed with every other collection being all pink and coral and peach and copper and maybemaybe navy and red if you’re lucky. Come now, this isn’t the Precious Princesses collection! It’s not that you can’t have the wearable colors, too, but with such a large collection, stirring the pot a little by adding some wild cards really wouldn’t hurt. The more I write about this – I’m sorry; this is an essay of a comment, and if you don’t want to approve it, I understand completely – the more disappointed I get. It’s the focus in part, and it’s the packaging and the art, but it’s also the general choices when it comes to shades. Haha – distressing, isn’t it, when something you’ve looked forward to quite a bit turns out to be quite the bummer instead?)

    • Caitlin

i know what you mean about the characters. i totally disagree w/ dr. falicifer. && i would have been so excited to see ursula! :)

    • cmferret

i gotta say i totally agree. when i saw the male in this collection- i was like who is that? who is dr. falicer? ive never even seen the movie. they could have done alot better and actually put another female disney character that we know of-queen of hearts, ursula!!!!

    • RR

I agree with you; even as someone younger, I don’t care for Dr. Facilier much. I can understand wanting to throw in a male villain, but even in that they had options- Jafar, Hades, and a whole litany of other male villains. Granted, a lot of them, like one of my favorite, Shan-Yu, aren’t too well known and loved. But that applies to Dr. Facilier as well, not too many people adore him. They kind of disrespected the classic villains a lot of hold dear.
And I’m also dissapointed with the colors. Everything seems very… Tame. It’s pretty depressing.

  9. Adeets

So, I know that this packaging is pretty disappointing for the usually very artistic MAC designers, but we have to remember that MAC may not really be to blame for this. I am sure that Disney had a very controlling hand in the development of the packaging as well as a very tight rein on which characters were picked. Disney has always been very protective of their trademark rights and I can’t imagine they just let MAC have carte blanche for making this collection.

Personally, I am excited for this collection, regardless of the packaging.

  10. I think I have to buy the whole thing. I passed on Hello Kitty and Barbie but I love Disney Villians! The one thing I don’t think is a winner is Dr. Facillier. I know everyone is saying they should have used Ursula but even Captain Hook would have been better than Dr. Facillier.

  11. Victoria

The products sound cool but the packaging is sooo cheap looking… I was expecting more creative/asthetically pleasing packaging!

  12. Ariel

I can see why they’d release a villains collection right before Halloween…makes sense.
But what kind of sophisticated woman wants makeup with such ugly, gaudy packaging? I thought To the Beach packaging was fun but still classy, while this is just plain hideous.

  13. Emiy

    getting ALL the beauty powders!!!!

  14. Michelle

  15. I think we may be all missing the point with the Dr. Facilier. Having characters of color is a first for Disney. It is a huge deal believe it or not. So although he is still new and not as well known, he is far more historic than any of the other villains. It would seem that MAC understood the social significance. I’m pleased to see the character. I love the Princess and the Frog and my teenaged, show choir neighbors are contantly singing the songs (along with my 23 month old daughter.) So it is q big deal. Maybe not for some, but I totally get it. In my opinion, Cruella could swap for Ursula. Cruella is more of a fashion villain to me.

    • MAChostage

      Word. 😉

    • Sass

Thank you! And when they come out with the Princesses…hopefully NOT…then I want to see Tiana in the bunch.

    • SoSwanky

Like I said earlier, Dr. Facilier is important. I too am pleased to see him in the collection. They are still in the mode of promoting the movie itself as well. I think that they could have done much better with color choices for his part of the collection, as well as the other vilians. i was disappointed that Ursula was not included. the packaging leaves much to be desired, though.

  16. Linda

I actually find the packaging to be a really big disappointment. And the only thing that really sounds appealing is Heartless. Boo :(

  17. Stephanie

what is a magically cool liquid powder?

  18. beth

is it me or are the prices going up?

  19. Jakara

I am still not impress with the packaging!

  20. Sarah

Hello, Just wondering how long will it be until swatches , because I am really EXCITED :) :) :) :) :) !!!

I WANT ALL OF IT LOL !!!!!!

  21. Kathleen

I am such a Disney freak, I am aaaalllll over this. Yeah, the packaging is not as creative as it could be, but from the “leaked” pictures it looks like it’s screen printed and not just stickers. I like it a lot. It’s classic disney. I am going to need to save up SO much money. I don’t think I’ll get the whole collection because that would be a ridiculous amount of money, but I definitely have my eye on some things. I need to see the collection pics and hopefully some Temptalia swatches before I decide. BTW is that the packaging for the beauty powders or is it for the decorative mirrors or what?

  22. cmferret

gosh i hope they put atleast a mac logo on these-bc or else it just looks like some cheap plastic kiddy stuff u find at the disney store-i hope they change this packaging really bad! keep the pic but just edge them out a bit with a sig mac sign. i love the disney theme though.

  23. Tori

well, some of it sounds good to me. i’ll definitely have to buy something from the queen and maleficent, just because it’s them! i’d at least buy the compact mirror :) i was really hoping if they planned to use a guy that it would be jafar. they could have added some really great “arabian” kind of colors to the entire scheme if they put him in. lots or corals for blushes and bright eyeshadows would have went well with him. i was really hoping for all classic characters so i probably won’t buy from dr facilier’s section at all. does anyone else think it would have been neat if MAC did a villian vs. princess kind of line? i think it would have been great for eyeshadow duos and made fantastic packaging!

  24. Chelbi

Have to get Cajun and French Quarter!! I’m from Louisiana, haha

  25. Caitlin

I’m super excited for the nail laquers. But what does it mean if the polish is “teal w/ pink pigment” or “purple w/ teal pigment” does that mean it is duocrome or what?
I’m also excited for the “bite of an apple” blush. :)
Also, when can we expect swacthes?

  26. Cheyenne

I am loving some a lot of the colors I’m hearing. I just hope they are not all dark and unwearable for my skin tone. Ummm comment though, packaging is always something I love love love, but I HATE HATE HATE this packaging. Soooo tacky and childish.

  27. Brittany

  28. sam

:$ the black plastic looks so cheap! i don’t mind the graphics just ew, it looks like i’m paying less than 2 cents for packaging.

and these shades seem so random. they’re not awful, just how evil is pink and coral, really? i think more of cinderella and sleeping beauty as opposed to the evil queen. WHERE ARE THE REDS?! if mac released a blush like nars’s exhibit a for this collection, that’d be epic!

  29. Judy

You know. Whoever just mentioned that a grey or blueish lipstick color would be perfect is right. Years ago, Avon (can you believe it!?!) had a beautiful grey colored lippie and I missed out on it. My friend bought it and it looked amazing on her. I do like the Heartless & Dark Deed lipstick colors. Both seem awesome! I also think that MAC/Disney could have come out with another purpley lipstick in an amplified finished. Oh well. What can we do?

  30. Janika

  31. Claudia

I definitely would have loved to see Ursula be a part of this

  32. Anna

    blaah to the packaging

  33. Jennifer

OMG PRICES ARE UP:(!! OMG I HAVE TO BE IN THE STATES FOR THIS! here in canada BIG RIP OFF:'(!! omggg :( need more hrs at work to afford this lollll

  34. Hannah

I am over in the states, (usually live near Lonon in the UK), for this release, so psyched! :)

  35. Sixx

Are prices going up permanently or just for this collection??

  36. Cindy

The packaging is my least favorite part. But these colors! I am sooooooo excited for the very vampy fall we have ahead.

  37. Haley

I am so sad about this collection… I LOVE disney!! And I was super excited about this, but the packaging is so boring… its got some purples in the collection that makes me happy. But there is nothing really super unique… not that I can tell yet at least.

  38. Kaylabella

Oh my! That red nail laquer looks amazing! As do the mes and everything else! This collection is a wallet killer!

  39. alisson

omg that nail polish reminds me of the discontinued clarins “unicorn pee” shade! GORGEOUS!

  40. Judy

Heartless lipstick is mine, all mine! (evil smirk)

  42. Kate

whats that amazing looking purple glittery thing? i think it might be a mineralize eyeshadow but i cant really tell from the description

  43. sofia

Mineralize Eyeshadow Duo!!!!!!! yay!!!! i want them both!!!!! i really can’t wait

  44. Sass

The mineralized eyeshadows are going to be a hit. All of the Malefict and Facilier items are mine. I can’t wait!

  45. Olivia

yes, very, very, VERY tacky. i couldn’t imagine pulling a lipgloss out of my purse looking like THAT in front of a guy lmfao.. childish.

  46. The packaging you see is the packaging your going to get when purchased. Sorry for all who have shown disappointment.

  47. Alma

I actually am quite surprised with this, I like it more than I thought I would. Okay, the chosen characters are not great and neither is the packaging, but I do really like some of the products..

  48. Freya

Actually, the collection looks really pretty (if you first ignore the packaging)

  49. OMG, I need all the Maleficent and some of the Evil Queen. I wish they would have done Ursella though!

  50. I think the only thing that I feel I MUST have from this is the two mineralized shadows from the Maleficent lines. And where is Ursula in this? She was my favorite villain after Maleficent! I also want to see swatches of the “Bite of an Apple” blush for the Evil Queen before I decide. I was also hoping for some near-black polishes =/

  51. Lauren

I think the packaging for this collection is lame, however I’m super stoked Heartless lipstick and some of the blushes, I think they will be gorg. And I want to see this “special” compact mirror.

  52. sillylilacs

Maleficents Briar Rose is pretty!! *drools*

  53. Emily

Ugh. I love the idea of a villan-themed collection this fall, but MAC really disappointed mewith the tacky-looking packaging. I’ll save my money for Fabulous Felines.

  54. Mani

Will the pro discount apply to this just like the Back to the beach collection?

  55. Alexis

Luckily there are only two things I want from the collection – the packaging is rather MEH!

  56. Nicole

I understand the theme, but the packaging is quite childish.

That said, the mineralize eyeshadows look kinda cool! And I always love duochrome, complex nail polish colors! I’ll check out the nail polish swatches, but right now I think I will probably skip this collection to save money for Italy shopping! 😀

  57. Vickie

i may be in the minority here but i actually like the packaging.

  58. I keep telling myself I Do NOT need to own everything fuchsia. Srsly. I’m really looking forward to your swatches of these products!

  59. Diane

Kind of a big yawn. I feel like this collection is just to have a collection with an exciting grab of “Disney”. They could have put alittle more into the actual product details.

  60. The prices have definitely gone up but I DON’T care! I’m loving this collection! I need both beauty powders, the blush, and definitely the Toxic Tale lipstick. I pretty much like everything… what shame I can’t have it all! Oh… I’m so naughty!

  61. Joyce

Ew! C’mon MAC, you just HAD to mess up on the Disney collection.

  62. Refinement

This is going to be just like To The Beach. I need Bite of an Apple (Evil Queen blush) in my life!

  63. Refinement

I really wish they added Ursula (sea witch from The Little Mermaid). She’s my favorite!

  64. Mel

    wait — there’s a mirror and it’s not the Evil Queen’s? whaaaa?

  65. Rissy

I agree that the packaging is very happy-meal-esque and is quite disappointing. Haha the good thing about that is… no more cute packaging bias… *cough* like to the beach *cough* I will only buy for the product… and probably depot the shadows and blushes.

  66. Dee

What is magically cool liquid powder? The blushes and beauty powders seem pretty, and some lipglasses, and I’m also liking De-Vil Eyeshadow. The packaging is just so tacky, though!

  67. Cheyenne

tacky tacky tacky tacky….:/ but still wanting to see more.

  68. Just had a make-upgasm. I can already tell that I’m going to buy My Dark Magic and Mean & Green Purple, and probably more once more pics come out and I see your swatches. This is the collection I’ve been saving up for!!

  69. I’ll reserve final judgment to see this in person, but so far I’m not thrilled. There doesn’t seem to be anything extraordinary about the colors, and the packaging doesn’t grab me right off. It’s a neat concept for a collection, though. I think I’ll probably be far more excited to splurge on the Dare to Wear collection.

  70. Beck

uh-ohhh better re-new the pro card this is going to be a mega damage collection.

  71. Yumi

Hmm, packaging-wise, the only one that appeals to me is Maleficent. Cruella De Vil is ok but the others are kinda yuck. =x I’ll have to see more to decide if I want anything from this collection though. Thanks for the info!

  72. Ashley

Thanks for uploading newer pictures, by the looks of products I’m getting pretty much everything.

  73. Mariana

    I’m liking that nail polish

  74. JD

Not sure if I’ve said this before, but I’m so disappointed with the packaging! It strikes me as suuuuper tacky. I think it would have better if they did something with the sketches of the characters that we saw in the sneak peak video. I am a sucker for Disney villains and dressed
as Cruella a couple times for Halloween so I was so excited. I will probably buy some stuff once I see it, but not for the sake of novelty.

  75. IZzySA

Christine.. I don’t know why I cannot access the pages anymore.. after the changes made, my computer freezes up.. what do I do?

  76. Kalee

despite the price and formula of mac nail polishes, they sound (and from the picture it looks) friggin awesome but im glad im actually not interested in the rest of the collection. yay for my wallet!

  77. Evelyn

    Must….buy…mac disney……… lol

  78. Diana

Love the colors!! 😀 But the packaging is tacky and not worth paying the extra money for. :(

  79. Hannah

A few of the products sound like they could be nice, but I’m not going to buy any of the lipsticks or lipglasses, no matter how gorgeous the color, because I do not want to reapply in public with such tacky and childish looking packaging! That may be a silly reason not to get them, but I know I’d have to reapply lip products and doing so would make me self conscious….

  80. Victoria N.

Love this collection, however the packaging seems rather elementary to me, I feel MAC could have done a far better job considering the theme of the collection.

  81. Taylor

I’m really excited! The nail polishes look amazing, and I love that dark plum lipgloss. I wasn’t too impressed with the initial pictures but now that I see the actual products I’m loving it.

  82. Maricar

Wow! Did the prices go up? Is it just for this collection, or is this a permanent raise in price?

I am not so happy with the packaging, I think that MAC could’ve done a lot better of a job.. Oh well… can’t wait to see the packaging for fabulous felines :)

  83. KC

$15.50 for an eyeshadow! That’s nearly $50 my currency when you add in duties and taxes. It doesn’t help that I want all three eyeshadows from the Evil Queen, the two lipsticks and the lipglass Wrong Spell from Maleficient. Devilishly Stylish lipglass, and all the eyeshadows except carbon from Cruella. Le sigh…..

P.S. Since MAC is deciding to keep this tacky looking packaging, I would really have prefered they keep the regular packaging if it went to a vote.

  84. Annie

woah woah woah… why are the lipsticks and glosses $15 instead of the normal $14? did mac up it again :/

  85. Cathy

    Gosh this is beyond tacky

  86. Aramis

omg! the minerlized eyeshadows have special packaging..not a fan of them but hopefully they compare to the style black ones!

  87. Claire

I love the colors but I hate the packaging. It seems a little cheap to me and looks like its a Disney makeup toy that you get in those sets with the plastic purses, etc. The packaging is a huge disappointment but I might buy a couple of items.

  88. Jenny

    omg my wallet…

  89. I’m excited for that Bite of an Apple blush, it looks gorgeous!

  90. cait

From the pictures, would you say that Heartless is close to a true red? Having a warmer skin tone makes it hard for me to find ‘true reds’ most are too blue toned.

  91. Emma

I don’t understand why everyone seems disappointed by the packaging and collection in general. I love the concept and I think MAC really picked great products and colors to match the theme. As for the packaging, they’re collaborating with Disney on tried-and-true trademarked characters. I doubt there was a lot of room for creative licensing on that one. Even though it’s just “a sticker on packaging,” I think it’s cool and I can’t wait to own the whole collection!!….(although I will say that I wish MAC had changed the container’s colors, like from black to maybe a red…I’d have loved to see that on one of the last major collections of the year.)

  92. Is disappointing that there are so many rempromotes in this collection..I was looking for originality.

  93. Jakara

The packaging still does not wow me. It’s just blah. Especially the eyeshadow packaging. It looks just like a sticker is placed in the center. Rock and Republic packaging looks whole lot better than Mac’s regular packaging. Mac has been disappointing me lately.

  94. Ani_BEE

The only thing I’m finding interesting is the Nail Lacquer shades. ^_^ The packaging is no not right for a makeup line. bring back the sketches from the teaser and I would be happy.

YAY Cruella! 101 Dalmatians is my favourite Disney Movie of all time. Wheres Ursula though?! Got my eye on a few things including Heartless Lipstick and maybe Bite of an Apple blush so long as its not too similar to Hipness. The Nail Lacquers also look interesting.

However overall, this collection is disappointing to me. They could have gone super creative with this collection with regard to the packaging and the product range. Most of it is just blah. Such a waste of an opportunity on M.A.C’s part, this could have been a total sellout collection had it been done better.

Also, who is Dr Facilier?! I read a comment saying it is this first Disney character of color…but are they forgetting Aladdin? The characters from that movie were Arabian…?

These products and the packaging are so not worth what M.A.C is charging for them. Prices are getting ridiculous if you ask me!

OMG, I want the mineralized eye shadow now. I don’t really like the mineralized stuff but it looks so pretty and swirly and OMG I love Disney villains and don’t care if this looks “infantile” and “childlike” because the kids I work with will so appreciate Disney makeup just like they appreciate my Hello Kitty makeup :p!

I actually really like the pictures on the collection. Ive always been a huge disney fan and I love seeing Disney characters in their classic nature on the packaging. However, does anyone know what liquid powder is supposed to be?
