MAC Pro Longwear Lipcremes

MAC Styledriven: Pro Longwear Lipcremes (Part 2)

MAC Pro Longwear Lipcreme ($17.00 for 0.12 oz.) are a long-wearing lipstick with a “lightweight texture, creamy finish, and comfortable long-wear.” It claims to wear for up to twelve hours without feathering or transferring–and “helps lips stay soft and hydrated.” This formula originally debuted last year and again with Styledriven. You can read my in-depth review here, as I’m only going to summarize the finer points in this post. All shades from this collection are permanent. ┬áThe shades featured in this post are: Prolong (clean red with blue undertones), So Very Good (mid-tone plum with pearl), Soft Sell (light yellow-pink), Soulfully Rich (deep dirty purple with red pearl), Till Tomorrow (mid-tone dirty mauve), and To the Future! (dirty neutral pink with pearl).

  • Prolong is a rich, blue-based red with ruby micro-shimmer and opaque color coverage. It’s similar to many reds (see the swatch gallery).
  • So Very Good is a darkened plummy red with a soft, frosted sheen and opaque color coverage. It’s a touch darker than Chanel Impertinente. Clarins Baroque is redder. It’s not quite as dark as MAC Cunning.
  • Soft Sell is a berry-tinted pink with a soft pink micro-shimmer. It’s mostly opaque in color coverage with more of a frosted finish. It’s less pink compared to MAC Offshoot and not quite as dark as Clarins Blackberry.
  • Soulfully Rich is a deep, dark berried brown with a rather glossy shine. It has more of a glaze or lustre-like feel, so it also goes on uneven and slips around more. It is a weaker version of MAC Prince Noir. NARS Train Bleu is purpler. Make Up For Ever #49 is similar.
  • Till Tomorrow is a pinky mauve with a creamy finish and opaque color coverage. It is similar to Chanel Stunt.
  • To the Future! is a peachy nude with a hint of pink. The pink keeps it from looking washed out. It has a soft, frosted finish but still has opaque color coverage. MAC Naked Bliss is pinker. MAC Naturally Eccentric is lighter. It is very similar to Guerlain Gabrielle and Korres #13 Natural Pink.

I don’t get close to twelve hours of wear with this lipstick; I get great wear and substantially longer wear than the average lipstick, but it’s not twelve hours. The darker shades–of course–wear longer and look better after seven or eight hours than lighter shades, but both do a solid job of managing to wear for six to eight hours and getting through eating/drinking. This is the major source of lost points for this product, because MAC claims up to twelve and in reality, I get up to eight (on average) before I feel it’s time to reapply.

The formula delivers most opaque color coverage with a creamy, glide-on formula that doesn’t feel too slick but never stiff or dry. Most shades have a semi-matte finish, so there is a little shine. These are vanilla-scented but have no detectable taste. Instead of your typical MAC lipstick, they’re more circular, which may take some adjustments in application; if you have thinner lips, it may be a little frustrating.

I wouldn’t say it’s ultra moisturizing, but after wearing one for eight hours, my lips feel about par for the course; not dried out but would appreciate some lip balm. I didn’t experience any feathering or bleeding lip color, but they are not transfer-resistant (I did the kiss test, no dice). There is less transfer than the average lipstick but still a fair amount.

B+
For a semi-matte lipstick, Pro Longwear Lipcremes are comfortable to wear without being drying, and while they don't make it to twelve hours, they do wear for anywhere from six to eight hours (including time spent eating/drinking).

  1. Till Tomorrow is such a gorgeous shade!!! <3 <3

  2. Jill

I love Till Tomorrow!! I’m not really a lipstick person, but I really love that color so I think I’ll try it.

  3. I’m looking forward to trying Prolong, Soft Sell and To the Future in store once I’m in a town that has MAC. lol

  4. Kali

Oohh…I love these colors! How do they compare to the mattines as far as feel/wear?

  5. This is mostly unrelated to this post but I love that green eyeshadow on you!

  6. I’m loving MAC ‘Till Tomorrow’ Pro Longwear Lipcreme, super gorgeous everyday shade

  7. OMG, I want so any of these. Till Tomorrow, especially.

i love pro and soulfully rich on you!

  9. Devi

Till Tomorrow and To the Future, why can’t you just magically place yourselves under my pillow tonight? It would be a nice surprise to wake up to.

  10. La Sirene Acide

I own Till Tomorrow, my favorite long lasting colour with Chanel Rouge Coco Mademoiselle (for my complexion) for a work makeup. I would try To the Future when it comes out in Marseilles (which would be much later than in your country!). Thanx for those swatches. I recommend those lipsticks, really, really long lasting and comfortable. xxx (La Sirene Acide from France)

  11. ‘Till tomorrow’ comes out so much darker on me! I still loved it and wore it nearly everyday last fall/winter

  12. Lauren

Till Tomorrow and Soft Sell are for me! I love them!

    Oh….soulfully rich is pretty

I absolutely love Soft Sell and Till Tomorrow! They look perfect for work while still being beautiful

  15. The mauve and berry shades are to die for! Too bad those are my initial eye-catchers for shades and as such, I feel like I already have a billion! lol. The other benefit is that these are permanent, sooo if I ever experience a mauve/light berry lipstick draught and a little extra cash to burn, I know MAC has me covered!

  16. So very good and Soft sell are gorgeous! I love this collection especially the berries and yellowed pinks!

  17. Maureen

    Soft Sell Pro <3

  18. Trissa

I think you named two the wrong name… “soft shell” and “to the future” should be switched around I think. I thought it was really odd that the colours are pretty much opposite of what I expected so I did some searching and another person posted up the pictures you used as “soft shell” for “to the future” and vice versa. If I am wrong, I’m sorry.
Anyways, thank you for posting these pictures!!! I was wanting to buy most of these yesterday but I was nervous about buying some of the colours, especially since most of them you didn’t have posted yet (and I always go to your pictures first to see how the colours really look).

    • They are correct. When I photographed Soft Sell, I didn’t even own To the Future. I just did swatches for To the Future last night, so there is no chance of a mix-up.

  19. Ria

Hi Christine, how does Til Tomorrow compare to Modesty Cremesheen? Modesty is a bit too light for me and I’m afraid that Til Tomorrow will be too.

  20. Carrie Ann

Ooh, I like So Very Good and Soft Sell. Very pretty!

    Hey Christine,

I don not know if you have it but how does MAC Brave compare in color to Till Tomorrow? It looks gorgeous on you btw :)

  22. Catalina

Im loving till tomorrow and to the future! so pretty!

  23. ellie

Is to the future similar to peachstock?

  24. oh these are so gorgeous !!! Thanks for swatching them :)))

  25. Melina

When I checked the swatches on the MAC website, Soft Sell and To The Future seemed like the colors were switched around? I don’t know… I am hesitating on wether to order online or not.

  26. Roxanne

    Till Tomorrow looks interesting…

  27. Violet

Idk how I feel about the frosty finish. It’s just so dated to me.

  28. bibi

are you sure that the swatch you did to MACS to the future is the right name because online at mac cosmetics it looks wayy dark ;/ just wanna be sure because i really loved that shade

  29. I really wish MAC would do a Back to the Future collection… I was googling to make sure they didn’t already and got here!
