MAC Royal Sunset Blush
MAC Royal Sunset Blush

MAC Royal Sunset Blush ($21.00 for 0.21 oz.) is described as a “soft cool peach [with a satin finish].” It’s a warm-toned pink with a hint of coral and a satiny sheen. MAC Legendary is less pink, darker. MAC Launch Away is lighter, pinker. Dior Pink Happiness is darker. Chanel Fleur de Lotus is warmer, more shimmery. See comparison swatches.

Royal Sunset had good color payoff and was buildable, blendable, and easy to use. It didn’t look powdery on the skin, and the satin finish didn’t emphasize pores or the skin’s natural texture. It lasted eight hours well on me, which is slightly longer than average for MAC’s satin blushes in my experience. The texture was soft, smooth, and finely-milled. The satin finish looks matte initially, but the more you buff the blush into the skin, the more glowy the finish becomes. MAC paired the warmer, more orange-inspired hues of this collection with grays, and as some readers were uncertain about how everything would work together, I did want to show how they come together (the combination of the quad, blush, and lipstick doesn’t work on my skin tone).

well this look good for my skin tone nc40?

  2. Olga

Doesn’t work on your skintone? Maybe it’s different in person, but the combination looks great on you in the photos!

  3. Caroline

It would look like a sunburn on me haha

  4. I just ordered this. I’m an nw15-20 so I think it’ll look good!

  5. Quinctia

I think the “gray” combo would work a lot better on you (and probably in general) if it were much darker and smoked out.

i’m so mad i’m so broke because this whole collection is SO PRETTY and not at all something i’d normally like. this blush is like the perfect blush and the eyeshadow quad is gorgeous with the orange and peach. SIGH.

  7. pockykami

I think you’re right, the combo is not so great on you. What would you recommend pairing orange with?

  8. Oh the blush is great!
I wonder how it compares to Illamasqua Tremble, but I couldn’t find any swatches here, so you probably don’t have it…?
    Maybe someone else has both?

  9. Chaia

Hi, Christine–How does this compare to MAC Easy Manner, please?

Would this look great on nc30-35? :)

  11. This appears so neutral to me! Might be my screen or your warm undertones. I really like this :)

  12. I figured I was going to love this blush and OMG I do! It’s like Coral Blush Lite.. Gorgeous and BTW Christine, you look fabulous in these photos.

    • I’m actually seeing this collection as working very well together. I was put off a bit by the quad in the sneak peak photos, but honestly, in these photos here, you’ve pulled it together perfectly. I disagree that it doesn’t work on your skintone. Have I mentioned that enough? LoL I’m loving this collection.

  13. Anna

I think this is a pretty blush, but I agree that it’s hard to see how this blush works woth the rest of the collection. The eyeshadows look too white and lipsticks look yellow compared to the blush.

  14. I’m most likely going to pick this up! Very cute.

  15. YH

Will it show up on NC35 skin? which one of the 3 blushes you recommend to pair with the orange lipstick for my skin tone?

    • I think it would, but it’s going to be subtle/light. To pair with orange, I’d say Immortal Flower or Honey Jasmine! I think the lightness and pink coloring of Royal Sunset may not work as readily as the other two with really orange lipsticks. If it was a pinky-coral/orange, it would be fine.

  16. Alicia

Already sold out on the MAC website :( Looks beautiful though!

  17. Rachel

Christine, is it that you didn’t like Royal Sunset with your skin tone or you didn’t like the overall grey quad, pink cheek, orange lip? (Which I’m with you on. I think you’re gorgeous and that particular combo is not a friend to many!)

    • I don’t like the whole look together – I think perhaps the gray would work better with Honey Jasmine (which is more orange, whereas Royal Sunset is pinker), so then it would be more gray and orange working together.

  18. Grace

Christine, what mascara are you wearing? All I noticed was your fabulous lashes!

  19. MERI

I agree with Christine, these are not your colors. I think a fair complexion is better suited for the collection of blushes this time.

This is really pretty! Wasn’t sure what to expect from the stock photos of these blushes but this doesn’t look like anything I have. Nice! And your blush always looks so nicely done, Christine–even when the colors get intense and crazy.

  21. Karina

how does this compare to mac’s fleur power?

  22. Taylor

Launch Away is a favorite of mine, and I can see this color being a NEW favorite too! I’m so stoked I adore this color!! :):)

  23. April

do you think this blush will pair well with Razzledazzler on an NC20? These are the only 2 I snagged from the collection, everything else was gone!

  24. Lisa

Thanks for the review! How does this compare to Nars Sex Appeal?

  25. Shelley

how does this compare to Rosy Outlook blush?

  26. Anne-Laure

I think the quad and blush work quite well together, and both work nicely on your skin tone. The one that seems to clash is the Lipstick… wouldn’t it work better with Razzledazzler or Flamingo (mayby Flamingo could be too pink, but I’d defintely give Razzledazzler a try…)
The quad on your eyes looks just fabulous!

  27. anglesea

how would you say it compares to the mac prolongwear blush rosy outlook in your opinion?

  28. How does this compare to MAC Cream Soda? Thanks. :)
