MAC Plumful Lipstick
MAC Plumful Lipstick

MAC Plumful Lipstick ($15.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “blossoming rose-plum” with a Lustre finish. It’s a pinky-plum with a little brightness but nothing too red or too over-the-top. Bobbi Brown Plum Rose is darker. MAC Capricious is more plum. Maybelline Bit of Berry is slightly darker. Bobbi Brown Wild Rose is pinker.

I find that this always looks very pink on me, and it often looks less pink on others. It has semi-sheer to semi-opaque color coverage; there’s translucency so it allows the natural lip color to come through. If you have redder lips, this is going to turn into a reddish plum shade and look less pink.  It has a soft, luminous finish, and it wears for three to four hours on me.  Plumful is probably one of my favorite Lustre finishes, because it isn’t drying and wears a bit longer than the norm.  It is, unfortunately, sold out with the snake skin embossing (although maybe MAC will restock), but Plumful is around in regular packaging all year-round, as it is part of the permanent range.

I find that this always looks very pink on me, and it often looks less pink on others. Capricious is a good option if you want something more plum than pink, and if you want something more pink than plum, Sweetie. Plumful is beautifully in-between.

Wow! It looks so different on you (as you’ve mentioned in your review). On me it turned much more plum. I just gave it away since it was super drying and I had to reapply every 30 mins because it just disappeared from my lips!

Thanks for your thorough reviews! And you look stunning as always!

I find it so reassuring to know that others find this formula drying! Thanks Franzi and Christine for sharing your experience! My friends love lustres, but they make my lips peel. The SA at the MAC counter said she never heard of anyone experiencing that kind of problem…I am happy to know it isn’t just me lol

      • I definitely feel it if I use Lustres back-to-back, too – sometimes it’s not too noticeable since they often only last a couple of hours, but if you keep reapplying, oh yeah.

  2. Ooh I really like that!

I think it looks gorgeous on you, but I agree that it looks more pink than plum. :)

Is this collection only released online? Or can we find in a Mac store as well?

Plumful has been one of my “holy grail” MAC lipsticks for perhaps 15 years, if not more. I don’t have it with any fancy embossing but I usually have at least 3 tubes of Plumful on the go at any one time and as soon as I finish one, I replace it so I always have several (one in my bag, one in my makeup area and one in a kitchen drawer!)

This is so pretty that I wish I could wear it. I’m allergic to MAC lipsticks. I don’t know what ingredient it is, but my lips puff up and get super itchy. sigh…

  7. Love this one!! It’s a great starter color for people who are scared of color on their lips or aren’t into super vibrant and bright colors on their lips. I need it!

  8. I actually really like this shade! Mixed with a little lip balm it becomes less Barbie :-)

  9. The pattern is so pretty! I love the shade as well, I think this will be my next Mac lipstick shade I’ll get

  10. What a gorgeous color! I have a love/hate relationship with the bullet mold they used. It’s so pretty and I wouldn’t want to wear the lipstick for fear of ruining it lol. Crazy….I know :)

I get that it’s about the Chinese “year of the snake”… but snakes creep me out so bad that I cannot bear to imagine using these products.

  12. Love this on you and love it for spring. It would look beautiful paired with my Burberry Cameo blush :)

I’m not the biggest MAC fan, I only like a few products from them, but when I saw this lipstick I went nuts! I had to have it! And I did! lol It should be arriving this week! Yay! :D

I always wish this color looked on me as it does on you, though it’s still brilliant on me, anyway.

  15. I love when brands’ incorporate color-description info in a product’s name, it’s so useful… except in cases like this where the description doesn’t seem to fit haha. this doesn’t read plum to me. But it’s pretty

  16. Plumful is one of my faves! It comes out more plummy on me but I think it’s beautiful on many skin tones! Plus it’s nice that you can wear it sheer or build it up to a stronger colour.

  17. I don’t usually take much notice of the MAC collections but in this case, I’m a snake on the chinese New Years Calender and I love the carving on this lipstick and the colour… might well consider this one!

  18. This is so pretty! I am on a spending ban and this is not helping!

Does anyone else feel that the snake design makes the lipstick look kind of… Uh… Veiny?

  20. ci

Honestly, every colour lipstick looks amazing on you. Despite the B rating, the shade itself looks lovely against your skintone!

Plumful is a very beautiful color, it has been on my to buy list for some time now but I can´t decide if I want to get that first, or Craving, or Hot gossip. This lipstick suits you alot, though I prefer the normal lipstick, I don´t really like this design.

  22. I am so excited about this lipstick! I know it’s permanent, but I’ve never used it. I love Capricious, but it is a bit dark on me (I’m fair-skinned), so it’ll be nice to have something that is a little rosier without being straight up pink.

  23. i heard about this lipstick on youtube and when i see it on you, it think: I WANT IT! Such a amazing color!

  24. Marina

    I want! I love this!
