MAC Magic, Mirth, & Mischief Collection
Nail Lacquer: Lucky Number

MAC Magic, Mirth, & Mischief Review: Nail Lacquer & Softsparkle Eye Pencil

MAC launches two metallic finish lacquers: Lucky Number and $$$ Yes (which is a repromote from Heatherette), as well as two repromoted shades of their Softsparkle Eye Pencils — Nightsky and Iris Accents.

  • Lucky Number is a metallic-finish purplish-berry with a high-shine/sheen. Since it is a metallic finish polish, it does show brush strokes. I don’t know if it’s even feasible to manage to get no brush strokes to show, but I know I don’t have the patience to attempt such a feat. It’s a pretty color, though, and it’s not something I already own.
  • $$$ Yes is like wearing tin foil on your nails. It’s a bright silver with a metallic finish. Like Lucky Number, brush strokes will show up. I’ve just kind of learned to deal with brush strokes in metallic shades myself.
  • Nightsky is a medium black with silver microsparkle.  This one is opaque and goes on easily.
  • Iris Accents is a cool-toned, silvery-purple with silver microsparkle.  I find this one more of a semi-opaque shade and doesn’t go on as nicely as Nightsky–it will go on opaque, it just requires layering.

I liked Lucky Number a lot, and if you haven’t played around with the Softsparkles, you may find you like the glitz of them. I like them, but I never find myself reaching for them, despite owning all of them, so they’re not must-haves for me.

  • Product: 23/30
  • Value: 7/10
  • Ease of Use: 3/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

I’m so glad that I saw this because I really thought I was going to like Iris Accents but nah not what I was expecting so I’ll pass on that.

I am liking the soft sparkle pencils and I haven’t played with them before. They look very pretty.

  5. HC

Do you know if the soft sparkle pencils are waterline safe? I’m going to guess no b/c they have glitter bits in it, right?

  6. Wilcoa

That nail polish is really nice, I was hoping not to have to buy another polish already, but I’ really liking that shade!

  7. I saw these at the store but really wasn’t attracted. I can’t be bothered with streaky nails. I’m passing on the liners since I really want the UD Superstash instead. ;)

Lucky Number is pretty! Reminds me of Sally Hansen’s InstaDry in Royal Run, I’d say it’s a pretty close dupe, maybe a little less shimmery. But no lie, it dries super fast! Such a pretty color and only $4.

  9. Oooooh, Iris Accents is sooo pretty!! How do you find the wear on these? My lids are so oily that even Prestige wp and the UD 24/7s smudge a bit after 5-6 hrs…

    Lucky Nubmer is gorgeous!~

Is this collection in stores now?

  12. Lorna

how is the lasting power on the eye pencils? i like the lilac one but don’t want it to rub off…

  13. liz

i dont normally go for pastelish light colors, but that metallic lucky number is calling for me

  14. I really like the pink nailpolish. Even though Iris Accents looks very pretty, I’ll probably pass on the eye pencils.

  15. I’m bummed about the nail polish, because I definitely would have picked it up. I’m all thumbs when polishing my nails, so I wouldn’t do so well with a polish that streaks. :\

Oh I looooove Lucky Number !!

  17. Wilcoa

I love Lucky Number, such a beautiful color – really thought of picking this one up, but I just found it too cool for the colors that I usually wear. Though I may cave later lol…

  18. Luisafer

love that nail polish, sooooo my color!!!
