To me, this is an awesome collex. that will give those of us who do not have “easy” access to pro stores the opportunity to try new products, shades and textures. The promo pictures are great! CS as an artist has stretched the infinite boundaries of makeup as the truly transformative medium that it is. I’m sure this is way out of some folks comfort zone but isn’t that what being an artist is all about? Working out of comfort zones, trying to get folks to look outside their boxes and to think and experience life in new ways? Yes, some of the makeup is bright but as someone posted above it is all about that “pop of color” (gosh I dislike that statement). To me, wearing makeup is about highlighting my features but also going that extra mile and blending various shades together to come up with a new shade. It is also about using things in different ways, layering for different effects. Basically, just having a bit of fun with it. That said, I am def. going to check it out when it hits my local store and perhaps I will stumble on something new! I hope MAC will release tutorials or a vid. of how Sherman achieved her looks. That would be so cool!

  2. Elizabeth

The ‘Oyster Shell’ nail lacquer is GORGEOUS! I’m planning on grabbing that and a Feline (or two). :)

  3. realist

This should have came with a warning. I can’t unsee this. Totally creeped out.

  4. Cat

I dont like how theres a bunch of lipsticks available at pro store/repromoted/permanent.
Except for one. It would be more exciting to me with special packaging,

  5. Yessssss, FELINE ALL THE WAYYYYY!!! :D

  6. Jessica

    Just plain creepy and disturbing.

  7. Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Jill cloudburst

On one hand I think this is very cool, as I like Sherman’s work (and MAC of course), on the other hand it seems like a hardcore sell out for Sherman!

  8. Cindy Sherman is such an iconic photographer. I’ve loved her work for years. It’s nice to see an original collab. from MAC. All the promo images are out of the norm and the collection itself has a combination of brights and deeper shades. I am going to try my hardest to snap up a Lightscapade when it’s released again.

  9. Kristen

For the eye quads, are the pans typically removable or are they glued in?

  10. Sharon M

I see a lot of things I might want (depending on the reviews and swatches, though!) — definitely a backup for my Show Orchid lipstick, in any case. Some of the pigments and quads look intriguing.

  11. Britney

I LOOOOOOVE this collection! :) It’s the collection I’ve been waiting for (while still not knowing what I’ve even been waiting for lol)! I’m just getting into Mac (past year or so), so yeah! AMAZING.

  12. Carla Nunes Cantiere

Oh my God, be adict in makeup make people like this? I’m afraid of be like this, good products, but horrible style. Sorry to say that.

  13. Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Grace Grace Chin

coveting the bright pigments and coral lipstick~!!!

  14. what’s up with the black holes in her nose????????????????????????????????????? is that intentional or just bad photoshopping?? i was too distracted by those to check out the make up…

  15. Brittany

can you get the pigments only at a mac pro store cause i only have a regular mac store? if so that sucks and unfair =/

  16. D

I’m already sold by the sheer artistry of the photographs. Oh Cindy Sherman…

  17. Noel

The promo pictures are just hideous. I like the colors, though.

  18. Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of panphila Pan

This is great. I’m glad they’ve included a bunch of PRO colors, because the PRO stores are too far from me to visit when I want their products. I can’t wait to see eyeshadow swatches too (:

  19. Kristen

Now THERE’s a MAC collection I’d be willing to give a lot of money to! Ahhhhhhhhhh, I’m so excited!

  20. Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Liza Liza

Honestly the promo pics are scary… It should come with a caution sign and “children beware”

  21. Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Guadalupe VJNS

I’ll be happy with the newest LE shadows and skin finishes. That’s good enough for me TY.

  22. Nina

    Yes, the return of LIGHTSCAPADE!

  23. Danni

This looks completely creepy to me. I don’t really find anything about it appealing. It looks like a 10 year old doing make up on her mom. Gross!

  24. Katrina Lee

WHAT DOES “PERMANENT AT PRO” MEAN? What does PRO stand for?

  25. Marcela

I’ve always wanted Lightscapade and now I will finally be able to get it, I’m so happy I didn’t cave in and bought it for almost $100.00 on EBAY. =-)

    • Isobel

same, though its the only thing I think I’m getting from this collection, so my wallet will be happy with me :)

  26. ashley

OMG LIGHTSCAPADE AND PORCELAIN PINK ITS A DREAM COME TRUE

  27. Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Melinda Mel

    The prom pics look absurd

  28. Holy crap MAC! WTF happened to your Creative team? You went from Heatherette and Barbie to this NOT hot mess. Are you kidding me? This collection could not be uglier. Seriously, what happened to looking cute and pretty? Is it in style to look disturbing and hideous? I am sadly losing faith in the MAC brand. MAC- You need to launch a new theme that is flattering, cute and sexy here ASAP. Your losing me with these vomit inspired colors.

    • Gwen T.

I love when people comment on brands, without doing their homework. Summer, MAC was founded on different, irreverent beauty. Sometimes pretty, sometimes scary, its all about the transformatve power of makeup and the art of it. One of MAC’s first spokesmodels was RuPaul in the early 90’s speaking out for AIDS and safe sex, which was extremely taboo then. MAC is pushing the envelope again, and for fans that have loved MAC since the beginnings, it’s so inspiring. Regardless if the images are “sexy” or not, MAC shows they have a little something for everyone. If this color collection isn’t you, wait until the next one :)

  29. This MAC collection should be called, “I Sat on Bad Acid” Or “Peacocky in the Sewer”.

  30. Nadia

Do you think they are going to repromote Femme-Fi?

  31. Jessa

Holy mother of mac!!! This looks like an amazing collection!! As an artist myself I can relate to the colors and photos Cindy Sherman took to show off her creativity and the make-up. I’m getting just about everything from this collection. :-D

  32. ActingGal

    love the mineralized skinfishes!

  33. Shawna

I need both purple lipsticks. *_*

Also the promo pictures are horrifying……

  34. Im so excited to finally get my hands on lightscapade msf. I heard the hype about it but wouldnt spend $100 on it on ebay. Also gonna grab fleshpot l/s and a feline backup. Finally a collection I like lmao…

  35. Gabriella M.

This collection has some of the best repromotes… Feline, fleshpot, lightscapade… Not to mention some of the other colors look great! My wallet will be shedding tears. Tears of joy, of course ;)

  36. Jessica

Imma kid/teen and I love mac makeup… But it is super hard to afford as a kid… I will for sure save up for this collection… I love it!!! I am thinking about getting Violetta, Fleshpot, ANOTHER Show Orhcid, maybe a skinfinish, and 2 lipgasses… I can’t pass up this collection… I can pull off very bright pigmented colors even in the fall/winter…. I don’t order makeup offline so I can’t get PRO colors unless I go to the PRO store which is super far away… I CAN’T WAIT!!!

  37. JBaby

i cant wait to see face charts for this line… i want just about everything thats in it!! I dont know about the rest of the US, but it doesnt get winter here in TX till about November or December….

  38. Kim-Mary

I can’t wait for this collection!!!! Loving both eye quads, individual shadows, liners, lipsticks (especially that Bright Plum one plus it’s not a re-promote) I have all the other ones except X-S which I am planning on buying this time around also. Can’t wait for swatches.

  39. SkatCat

Christine, have you heard anything about Cindy Sherman & MAC no longer working together with this collection? Do you know if the colour story will change? I hope not!!! I wanted so many items from this collection. I haven’t read the information myself but it is mentioned on other websites.

    • I haven’t heard anything, though this collection is already finished – as in, I doubt there was much left TO collaborate on other than perhaps promotional aspects. When I did the Bloggers’ Obsessions collection with MAC, they said they usually work 12-18 months in advance of a launch. My guess is the products themselves were finalized much earlier this year and already in production.

      • SkatCat

Thank you, Christine! I’m not sure where this other website is getting their information. I’m glad that this collection is going through. So many wonderful items to buy. :-)

        • I haven’t heard anything from MAC yet, so I just wouldn’t worry too much about it for now. Even if something happened between MAC & Cindy, the collection itself will probably continue on, since the products are likely made and a ton of press came out for it. If I hear anything, I’ll be sure to update this post!

          • Jayde

The collection is staying the same, but it is now referred to as “Fall collection” lol as MAC is not allowed to mention someone that rhymes with Bindy Merman…I wonder what happened?!?!?!?!?

          • Nellie

MAC has yanked all mention of Cindy Sherman from this collection.

The manager of the counter I frequent told me this today. She was told that they are not allowed to mention Cindy Sherman at all in relation to the collection, which has been renamed “MAC Fall Color.” The memo did not mention any reason why. But they were not told that the collection is canceled, so it sounds like it is still coming out.

But I am guessing all the promo images will be pulled. I would also not be surprised if the collection is delayed if they do that, simply for the logistics of getting new displayers. And MAC isn’t exactly on the ball in terms of letting counters and stores know what’s going on — my counter only found out that Glamgloss was being delayed a couple of days before it was supposed to launch.

  40. Judy

Tx so much for the information Christine! I was shocked when I heard this rumor. Not sure where it originated from, but I would think it’s kind of late to change the name of a collection when it’s coming out in a month. I had hoped it was a whole new collection coming out when I saw the name. It was MAC Fall collection I believe.

  41. Smidge

I love most of these shades, but good GOD are the promo photos of her unattractive! They look like she’s not taking this collection seriously at ALL. That’s a shame because it really is a lovely collection.

  42. Kerstan

    Very excited about this!!

  43. fixurface

It’s all about transformation…all colors are present somewhere in the world at all times. Lots to choose from!!! =)

  44. Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Ayesha Ayesha

YES FELINE! I left mine in a hotel in the Bahamas :( I never realized how much I loved it til then.. been waiting for it to come out again!

  45. Moriah

I am so excited for this collection! Especially the lip dim and all the PRO Only lipsticks that I will finally be able to purchase!!

  46. Jessica

Thanks for the pictures! I’m super excited! But I heard this collection was getting canceled… I also heard this collection is now called the Fall collection…I’m confused :/

  47. I first heard of msfs about a month ago (believe me, I don’t live in a cave!). I only managed to get “Rose Quartz” from the Semi-Precious (before it was sold out too), and I can’t wait for new msfs! I prefer them on the shimmery and not on the glittery side thought!

  48. Tabitha

Lightscapade and Feline, I better start saving :)

  49. Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Anna Anna

How similar is Show Orchid to Candy Yum Yum??

  50. Chelle

Good, it is still coming out!

  51. Erin

I said I’d leave it – but (yet another) few feline pencils and another porcelin pink will be mine! Two of my very favorite MAC items :)

  52. Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Michelle MalybooBarbee

Am I the only one that is thoroughly creeped by the promo pics?!?! ugh scary

  53. Oooo Need backups of lightscapades and porcelain pink… I love them both, and now I don’t have to be so stingy with them anymore if I get backups!
The Ash violet fluidline looks interesting… and I may have to get that one quad just for Chamomille, one of my favorite highlight colors ever!
Most of the other stuff I either already have, or it’s not interesting enough…

  54. Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Alicia Alicia

definitely getting a few feline pencils. maybe the fluidline too.

  55. Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Veronica Veronica

I find the makeup in the ads a little overwhelming. I get that they’re going for fun, but it has a bit of a “WHOA” factor to it when you first see it. This being said, it is really nice to see an ad campaign featuring an older woman.

The collection itself, though, is quite pretty. The only real qualms I have about it is that it seems to focus on warm tones with its color choices.

  56. Jilliterate

They’re changing the name? Seriously? Cripes, tons of people seemed baffled by the promotional photos when Cindy Sherman’s name WAS involved in the collection (I don’t know what was wrong with their googling fingers, but whatever). I can’t image how people are going to “get” the photos now that her name isn’t being mentioned at all….

  57. ellie

Christine or anyone have you heard anything about MAC sculpting cream? Ive seen it on a few style reports says its coming A/W 11 but i haven’t heard anything else about it or what collection it would be in?!

  58. Emily

LOVE LOVE LOVE! ack, i need to start saving!

  59. Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of T Violet Lee

Eh, so much of this collection is either pro permanent or repromotes. I’m excited for Lightscapade and the Angel Flame quad but that’s about it.

  60. Liz

    er… no thanks

  61. Ericka

Are there any swatches of the pigments especially Blue Storm?

  62. Kayla

Am I the only one that finds this collection extremely boring? Almost everything is permanent or repromoted.

  63. flank

Can’t wait to do my makeup like a clown too!

  64. two of my favourite lipsticks (Violetta and Show Orchid) are repromoted here. Love them a lot!
I’m intrigued by tons of stuff… plus there is the Feline in the collection, it’s time for me to try it I guess ;D

  65. Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Emma Emms

Can’t wait for your review Christine!

  66. Nothing really interests me in this collection, except the Parlor Smoke Eyeshadow Quad. Hope Indigo does not disappoint. =)

  67. jennylevi

ugly collection way off for fall and a big disappointing in the promo pictures.. Mac could have done better this year in the fall collections

  68. Katie

    Lightscapade is back!! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

  69. FlyingBuffalo

…she has really dark nostrils. That’s what stood out to me.

  70. Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Laura Laura-Lou

The products look nice and there are definatly quite a few on my “need it” list but the promo pictures are horrendous! Theyre enough to give you nightmares! x

  71. Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of sara Sara

I’ll have to wait for swatches cuz the first quad in the pics looks too much like one of the FAFI quads

  72. Hend

3rd promotional photo reminded me of illamasqua
    I’m skipping this collection !

  73. Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Nella Nella

Picture is worth a thousand words. If you want to look like a Clown or an old banged/used up prostitute wear these colors. Haha what a joke!… This collection is!

  74. Tamara

    Those pictures freak me out

  75. Looks like a great collection (for the longest time saying this)! :o I just wish the packaging was something special but of course no… ;(

  76. cyndi

omg makeup is supposed to enhance beauty not be clown makeup!

  77. Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Brittany Brittany

    one thought: ZOMFG LIGHTSCAPADE!

  78. Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Chrissy Chrissy

I agree about the pictures. They are awful! The first one looks like a drag queen. However, drag queens do MUCH better makeup than that. The clown is terrifying. The third pic looks like Cheri Oteri from SNL doing a parody of a crazy teenager. The false lashes are pretty but MAC lashes are way too expensive.

  79. Shame

The colors do look like they should have been in a summer collection, i’ll just save them for next summer.

  80. Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Chantale Macaddict

Thank goodness I already own a lot of these!!!
I am a BIG fan of bright colors!
I will need to complete with more pigments and chromagraphic pencils.

  81. I want, no, I NEED Lightscapade MSF in my life!!!

  82. Jill

Show Orchid, yes!!! I’m so glad to see it back at reg stores. I don’t have a pro store near me so I was iffy about ordering over the phone. I can’t wait to see swatches of the eyeshadows!

  83. Bernice Russell

Her makeup in those photos is so awful it really puts me off the collection…

  84. It’s all about Ash Violet fluidline and Three Ring Yellow e/s for me from this collex. The pigments don’t look too imaginative–I think Sugarpill has better ones.

  85. Maddy

    can’t wait for the msfs:)!

  86. Jayleen

I am so excited for this! I wonder why its not the MAC for Cindy Sherman line any more? Oh and please please Christine do a review and swatches on the new Sweet Dreams Makeup Collection from Too Faced that would be so so so amazing! :)

  87. Becca

OMG OMG OMG I NEED LIGHTSCAPADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  88. amanda

i had clicked “leave it” because i had thought that there was only the fluidlines/lipsticks.. then i clicked to read replies, realized theres way more, and change my vote.. im kinda glad she isnt involved.. was scaring me a bit.

  89. marcy

omg… these must be the most freakish, unappealing promo photos i’ve ever seen… especially the creepy nostrils! what the hell was MAC thinking??? LOL!

  90. Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Rosie Rosie

When I initially saw the pics, 1st thing I thought was “there is no way this is an ad for MAC”. The pictures are… interesting

  91. Luisafer

love the collection!!!…………. BUT hate the photos, ugly make up publicity

  92. Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Madalyn Madalyn

why do her nostrils need to be black ??

  93. I’m not feeling the pictures, but I’m liking the products, I’m totally stocking up on Feline.

  94. Valley

Those promotional pictures are so rediculous, but the loose pigment and lipstick look hot!

  95. Why is this collection so colorful? :(

  96. Dionne

loving that beautiful shade of purple lipstick!

  97. Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Melissa Melissa

The colors are cool and all, but the photo’s make the poor woman look like a clown!

  98. Julia

Love both the quads! I hope they’re good quality- can’t wait to see the review!

  99. Jen

meh…not feeling the mac collections lately…repromotes, permanents and dupes all in one collection again!! when is mac going to move out of the box and make some interesting products instead of repromoting??

i guess lighscapade and porcelin pink MSF’s are worth the look and of course gotta stock up on feline kohl power….everything else is blah blah blah…peach gloss, nude lip, black eyeliner, and a quad full of dupes of permanent e/s.
