MAC Eyeshadow Palettes: Permanent Eyeshadows (April 2010)
These are all the permanent MAC eyeshadows I have to-date. Over the past year, I’ve been working on increasing my permanent eyeshadow collection (although I’ve had many from over the years!), because I want to phase out my older limited edition shades from the looks I post on the blog. There are a few limited edition and discontinued shades in these palettes, but overall, they’re focused on the permanent range.
How I Organize…
- By color in rainbow order (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, Brown, Gray, Black)
- By undertone — e.g. blue-based purples are separate from red-based purples; cool neutrals from warmer neutrals
I have a tendency to buy PRO shades when I finally get around to visiting one, and so I’ve ended up with a few doubles! Boy, nothing makes you feel silly like buying the same shade twice!
See close-ups and labels…

It’s Eyeshadow Alley!

Where can I buy original mac palettes besides the mac site? They are sooo expensive, but I want! I have the hello kitty mac palette but the colors are all shimmery and I would like to have some matte colors. Help a broke college student out :-(
Hi Christine! Could you please explain the difference between tete-a-tint and soft brown (and kid)? I want to buy one of these to blend out browns in the crease (e.g cork) Which would you choose? Thanks! (don't know how I'd manage without Temptalia :) )
Love!.. looking at e/s...**picks up slobbers off chin** I trying to pick out 4 e/s...Wonder if you can help me.. What I want to avoid is frosty, chunky e/s..I just don't look good in frost..I know mac has some that say Frost..yet are more Satin.. Shroom Naked Lunch Gleam Hush Are these ok choices to wear as both a highlight and all over e/s..? Or... only highlights..T.i.a. !~
Wow great collection! Do you know how many the MAC palettes hold when you take the dividers out vs. how many the Z palettes hold?
Anyone have a great dupe for graphology... I missed the boat by a mile and have been trying to make up for it for almost a year... Thanks
I am hatin on you ms. honey. your collection is fantastic. How long did it take you to accumulate all of those shadows?
Whoa. I'm totally in awe of your collection. I don't have enough to fill even one palette! Any here that are must-haves for you?
Christine, WOW...thank you so much for all the work you put into this!!! This is so helpful, to see all the colors up close. It's definitely "eyeshadow alley!!!" THANK YOU!
You've hit pan on: Gorgeous Gold Goldmine Juxt Lucky Green Stars n'Rockets Freshwater Ricepaper Femme-Fi XD I love that you've hit pan on COLOURS because most people hit pan on neutrals or highlighters first - hardly no colour! And No wonder you've hit pan on these colours! They're all fabulous colours, too!
LOL, I never stick with a highlighter long enough to hit pan on it typically. I like to change up the highlighter based on the look :D
Great Collection & Organization! XD Just out of curiostiy, how do you have such a good knowledge of colour theory (You've got warm & cool colours spot on) even though you don't go to art school (which I do go to)?
Thanks, Rosanna! I'd have to say through experience - just playing and using makeup, because I definitely haven't read up on color theory at all!
So trying to get most LE's wouldn't really be worth it, right? Just getting the perms would be equal?
It's not really about either -- it's more about getting which shades you like :) MAC has a great permanent range, and they have done some fantastic shades that are limited edition, too. My perfect collection wouldn't be 100% LE or 100% permanent.
Hey Christine! Amazing collection! Haha Question though, I thought Vibrant Grape was now a permanent shade?
does your idol eyes shadow have a purple tint to it? i have the same color and mine looks like a really light purple with sparkle, but yours looks gray in the pics. are there two versions?
Looking at all of your colors makes me want so many PRO colors! Indian Ink, Aqua, Sky Blue, Cobalt, and Blue Calm; all so lovely!
I always wait til I have a lot of PRO items I want, and then I call up the store and have them do a charge-send :) Makes the $7 flat rate shipping worth it!
how many of the perminates do you not own? you have so many i was just wondering! LOL. and also, i dont know if you tried creme di miel from naked honey, but do you know a dupe for it? its my fav and i hit pan quite a bit):
Ever thought about removing the insert in the palette so you could hold more shadows? Or using those Z palettes or larger palettes they sell on smh?
Nope -- absolutely HATE the way they look! So, so messy and cluttered... yuck! No desire to remove the inserts or use Z palettes. I like the perfect spacing of the 15-pan palettes!
I kind of like it in 15 :) I like the size -- it's large enough to be sturdy and hold a lot, but it's not so large that it's awkward. It fits in drawers, cabinets, bags, etc.!
