MAC Dimensional Blue Extra Dimension Eyeshadow
MAC Dimensional Blue Extra Dimension Eyeshadow

MAC Dimensional Blue Extra Dimension Eyeshadow ($21.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “frosty blue.” It’s a light-medium, cool-toned blue with a frosted finish–it is a little subdued, almost overcast in color. Bobbi Brown Iced Blue is lighter, more silvered. bareMinerals Bravo is less frosted. Urban Decay Mary Jane is darker. MAC Moon’s Reflection is darker and less frosted. Urban Decay Strip is grayer, darker.

The Extra Dimension formula is supposed to wear for six hours with color payoff that “ranges from sheer crystallized light to a highly polished metallic effect.” ¬†Applied dry, it had good color payoff, and applied damp, it became more frosted and had slightly better pigmentation–but the difference was very subtle. The texture is lightly dry but soft, and it applies smoothly to the lid; the texture is consistent with this type of formula. When I applied it to the lid, it seemed lighter on the lid than when I swatched. ¬†Dimensional Blue wore seven hours without fading (even longer than the six claimed) when applied damp over bare skin.

The Glossover

product

Dimensional Blue

A
It has buildable pigmentation, and it wears well. The drawback is there is a slight dryness in the texture, which is consistent with past experience with this formula but does result in some powderiness/excess fall out during application.

I never thought I’d like this, but I do. So unexpected! :D

  2. Just bought this and three other shades. Opalesse, Zestful, and Triple Impact. I LOVE pastel, iridescent colors. Especially from Mac!

  3. Very beautiful, but the color doesn’t excite me enough to purchase it.

  4. I have to say, MAC covered their asses with the product description for the Extra Dimension range. 6 hours is really quite short, and the “expected” color payoff has such a wide range! It’s hard to fall outside those parameters!

    • I agree with you, Jade!

      • LOL now I’m imagining if companies started producing products with descriptions like “patchy colour payoff”, “average to short wear time”, “needs frequent reapplication”!! How badly would that mess with your rating system!

        • I know, right? I know that it’s my system and blah blah and I can do whatever I want, so I could just be like, “Well, six hours is ridiculous wear time, so I’m still going to judge it by eight, which is more typical,” but then it gets so loose! The other one I don’t like is when they say the color payoff ranges, which is totally fine, but then you SHOULD be providing descriptions of each color – e.g. sheer raspberry compared to raspberry – to indicate what’s what!
