MAC Cutie Eyeshadow Quad
MAC Quite Cute: Cutie Eyeshadow Quad
MAC Cutie Eyeshadow Quad ($36.00 for 0.21 oz.) is new and limited edition from MAC’s Quite Cute collection, which launches in-stores on April 7th. It includes four eyeshadows: Moshi Moshi! (pale white green gold), Goody Goody Gum Drop (light white pink), Boycrazy (pale lavender with silver pearl), and Azuki Bean (mid-tone dirty violet).
- Moshi Moshi! is a sheer, pale green–it’s so light and pale that it’s more white than green. There is an abundance of chunky silvery-white shimmer. I actually thought this was a lustre finish because of the gritty texture and excess fall out. It has a frost finish. It reminded me of Lustreleaf, which is a forever ago shade.
- Goody Goody Gum Drop is a muted cotton candy pink with subtle gold sheen. It has decent pigmentation though it is a softer color overall. It has a satin finish. It’s a lighter version of Da Bling.
- Boycrazy is a sheer pale lavender with silver sparkle. It has a lustre finish. It has a smoother finish than I’d expect from a lustre finish, and it doesn’t suffer from fall out (like Moshi Moshi!), but it is ridiculously sheer. I had to scrape off eyeshadow just to pat enough on so it would show in a swatch, otherwise you would have thought I hadn’t swatched it at all. It’s marginally more pigmented/easier to work with when applied to eyes but I still found myself packing it on. It’s a lighter version of Creme de Violet.
- Azuki Bean is a dark burgundy purple. This was the most pigmented shade in the quad and easiest to work with. It has a frost finish. It reminded me of Mystical Mist.
I’m not particularly impressed with the eyeshadow quad. I don’t mind lighter colors, and I wouldn’t expect a pale green to become a deep green, but I do take issue with excessive fall out (I’m looking at you, Moshi Moshi!) and having to scrape off eyeshadow to get it to show (ahem! Boycrazy). Two of the four were nice, while one was awful and another was nearly awful. In an instance like this, I try to average everything out.
Where to Buy: MAC Cosmetics, April 7th in-stores, approximately April 4th online
The Glossover
I would only recommend this to those with lighter skin tones–I just don’t think there is enough color pay off for this to work well on medium to dark skin tones.

Product & Review FAQ
Where can I purchase Cutie? How much is it?
MAC Cosmetics on April 7th in-stores, approximately April 4th online -- $36.
Is it limited edition?
Yes.
Any dupes?
Please see individual shade in the review.
Revlon has a dupe for this quad. It's the 12 hour eyeshadow quad in Wild Flower. Just discovered it today.
Oh. I love the look you did with these shadows and I think the colors are really cute, but I don't wanna pay $36 to struggle that much with them. :/ Anyhoooow... What are you wearing on your lower lash line in that picture!? I'm in love with it :3
Nevermind, I should have read the comments above before posting. :P Had a feeling it was Urban Decay! ^-^
Gosh! How disappointing :/ I was really looking forward to this quad. Oh well, saves me $36 :) Now I can get all of the nail polishes >:D
I don't think it's great at all but lighter skin tones may have slightly better luck with it (I still wouldn't recommend it, though).
I got to test this quad out too and I used Painterly paint pot underneath, the colors came out amazing! I would recommend giving this quad a shot with different bases. It worked for me and I love it!!!!
I really looked forward to see what color would an eyeshadow called "Moshi Moshi" would look like...too bad it isn't as pretty as I hoped for! I agree Azuki Bean is gorgeous, but I'm tired of buying palettes or quads to wear just one shade!
Wow. That is so strange. I got my quad a little early thanks to a lovely assistant at my local mac counter but the colours have been applying really beautifully for me (on my nc42 skin) but I see in your pics that they look like they'd be a nightmare to work with, which mine are not. Quality control issue, MAC??? I don't get it.
I was really only interested in this quad to begin with for Azuki Bean, and figured I could use the other colors occasionally, but now seeing that they are completely awful does anyone know a good dupe for this color other than the Mystical Mist seeing as that is a limited edition color
This quad looks quite inspired by Lunasol's 02 Lavender Coral (which I have by the way and LOVE) http://therainbowstar.wordpress.com/2009/08/15/lunasol-sheer-contrast-eyes-02-lavender-coral/
How disappointing! I was hoping this would be good quality. Guess I can save my money for Surf Baby and some more Peacocky.
It's interesting when someone is such a blind MAC follower that they can't see a crappy product they produce when it's right in their face. The pigmentation on these looks like something you'd expect from a drugstore quad, and not even some of those have such little payoff. Might as well buy it at the drugstore for cheaper, you're basically getting the same thing. (Not knocking MAC, they have some great stuff, but come ON.)
I have blond hair and fair skin and I'm really excited about this quad. As you mentioned in your review this is probably suited for those who have a lighter complexion. Truthfully, I think the whole collection is geared toward those with fairer skin, just by looking at your swatches. Overall I'm really exited about it! :) Thanks for your review!!
I was really looking forward for this quad but after I saw your review/ swatches, all I have to say is nah! At least I get to save me some bucks...
MAC these days is a shadow of what they used be 10yrs ago i mean these seriously bad Nowadays there's so many other brands that can take MAC if with these "oh let's go release 10 collections for month to get all those morons pockets empty" kind thing no doubt they will be in trouble to me nowadays MAC collections are not a life and death thing
Shame about the pigmentation quality because the look you have there looks really good and has so much promise to look utterly amazing if they were more pigmented. Bad times :(
That's crazy weak payoff :( I guess I'm just getting lipsticks this time around. You saved me $40 so thank you! :)
disappointed. i was planning on getting this, especially for moshi moshi. not with that color payoff.
Is there a shade in the permanent line similar to that dark purple? I've been on the hunt for that type of purple eye shadow. Thanks in advance! :)
Ugh, I've been really disappointed with MAC's limited edition quads lately. They really should be much better quality for the price.
I'm sure I won't buy it because of the quality issues, but Azuki Bean is a really good name for that dark shade! Azuki beans look just like that!
Concise review as always! I'd love to know how you used the quad in the word pic though. Did you use any primer?
I got sooo excited about thisss...for nothing. When I read the descriptions I thought of more cuter/pastel shades that were pigmented. Thank god I check your blog everyday. Def saved me money.
thank you christine -- you are always so unabashedly honest in your reviews. thanks for saving my debit card!
Another quad I was looking forward to, but will now pass on. Disappointed by MAC so much lately (at least when it comes to eyes) but you've saved me a lot of money which I'm thankful for!
LOVE the fact that you did a look with it at the end. It helps so much in deciding whether or not I like something!
I was on the fence about this quad but I think I'll be skipping it. The swatches of 3 out of the 4 of them (all except the green) look JUST like the ones from a Rocket City trio I have (I think it's name was Houston, We've Landed). Between that duplication and the pigmentation/fallout issues I think I'll pass.
Thanks a lot for your review. I really thougt I need this, but now I changed my mind. Will save money ;).
So sad, I was really looking forward to this quad, but it doesn't look like there is much payoff with the colors.
A "C" rating from you, Christine, is enough for me to pass this by. I don't much like the colour payoff with lustre shadows and while I could really do with a nice clear purple shadow, I don't think it will be either of the purples in this palette. Shame, really - they look nice in the photo but it's a shame they're not better.
MAC needs to improve their quad quality. It's to the point now where I don't even bother checking out any of their quads because I EXPECT them to be awful. Not good.
Ergh, I just want Azuki Bean so badly. The rest don't impress me in the least, but that one is stunning.
Even though you gave it an average grade, you managed to pull out a very cute look with it.. I like! <3
I already knew I was going to skip this quad. The colors are pretty and I love the names, but they're not very unique, and I prefer the look of MAC's old quads.
