MAC Cosmetics Casts Its Vote on White House Makeup Trends

Posted in: Backstage Beauty, MAC Cosmetics

It’s the beginning of September, and all eyes are on New York Fashion Week and the upcoming Presidential Elections. So, this season MテすAテすC Cosmetics is bringing Election Day to New York Fashion Week. As the leading makeup authority and official makeup sponsor of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2009, MテすAテすC Cosmetics is backstage at over 85 shows, creating and defining the beauty looks for the upcoming season. And with Election Day fast approaching and the nation’s focus on a change in leadership, MテすAテすC uses the backstage at Fashion Week as its platform to weigh in on what they envision the key White House beauty trends to be for some of Washington’s top female contenders. November 4th is just around the corner, so MテすAテすC. takes its first beauty poll backstage and let’s the fashionistas decide.

“Washington power women are in the spotlight and have to look and feel their best not only in person, but also on television. In a world of High Definition television that shows every facial imperfection, makeup has to be flawless and refined, which can be incredibly challengingテ「竄ャ, says Gordon Espinet, Vice President of Makeup Artistry, MテすAテすC Cosmetics Worldwide. “Red Lipstick is a great option as it commands attention and communicates a desire to be taken seriously. Blotting Powder is a must especially under hot lights as it keeps oil at bay and prevents shine. Mascara opens and defines the eyes, and MテすAテすC’s Mineralize Skinfinish Natural is an essential as it gives a smooth, even finish without a cakey look.テ「竄ャ

MテすAテすC’s talented Senior Artists created various beauty looks they feel will appeal to the women who are immersed in this hot political season and that can easily take them from a debate to an evening gala – no matter what skin tone or hair colour you have – MテすAテすC has colours that will help make you look like the belle of the ball.

Regardless of which candidate wins on Election Day, we have to appreciate the fact that it is a turning point in not only our countries’ political history, but also world history and MテすAテすC is inspired by all of the women and men who are a part of it.

These are all pretty strong looks….I like that they put glasses on the first look because I always find it a challenge to come up with makeup that doesn’t look too over-the-top with glasses. I’d be curious to see what it looks like in person with real glasses (since things always look different on paper). Maybe I’ll have to try it!

I agree, they are all quite strong. It’s hard for me to envision any of the first laies going for these looks… seems like more makeup than they’d wear!

I am SO glad to finally see MAC face charts with brown-skinned faces. They look beautiful, I hope MAC incorporates them into their regular website.

Mac is so specific about the looks..how about democrat look, republican look, election day look, winner look…these sort of things.
I used to joke about makind how to for specific occasion or activity like shopping at 7-11 look…etc.

It’d be interesting to see what they came up with.

I love Day Look 3 and Night Look 3!! I’ve never quite been able to get the subtle smokiness of Day Look 3, because my skintone’s pretty tan and I either find myself looking totally neutral or way over-the-top. Maybe I’ll bring one of these face charts to a MAC counter…do you think they’d re-create the look for me?

    • Christine

      Saturday, September 13, 2008

They will definitely re-create a look for you, Miss Fred! I think if you bring in a face chart, they are almost obligated to do it…

Oooohhhh I’m going to try some of those looks.

The very last is definitely something doable for me since I have all of the products, well, with the exception of the lip colors.

… not sure what to think about the idea behind the charts, but the charts are cool!
I like the dark skinned charts too, because it’s nice to see how colors can look on different people… and I’m sure if I’m ever to be a makeup artist I don’t want to be totally unfamiliar with it!

True, it’s good to be comfortable with different skin tones, features, and shapes if you want to go into artistry!

Adore that look 4 is a different color. And even more so that it’s almost exactly my color :)

    • Christine

Yayy! Will you try it, Dee?

    Friday, September 12, 2008

i thought look 4 both for day and night are a bit too fierce for mrs Obama. If they softened the lips and the blush a bit, both looks would be awesome.

nevertheless, i love all the eye looks, though.

I think they’re all a bit bold for first lady looks, if only because I think they pretty much wear minimal to no makeup.

  13. Chloe

    Friday, September 12, 2008

I agree with Miss Fred. It’s nice to see samples of darker skin tones come up so beautifully. I’m totally loving night look 3 and 4.

      Saturday, September 13, 2008

I hope they keep doing it, Chloe!
