MAC Nail Lacquers: Morning.After., So Rich So Pretty, Military
MAC Alice + Olivia Collection: Nail Lacquers
Alice + Olivia included three new and limited edition nail lacquers. I wanted to fall in love with these, but I just wasn’t blown away. Morning.After. was my favorite of the three, because of the way it seems to take on a different tone depending on the lighting, but it’s not as opaque as I’d like. Military reminds me of every other black + silver matte polish out there–I guess I’m just over that shade!
Nail Lacquer ($12.00 U.S. / $14.50 CDN)
- So Rich So Pretty is a fuchsia-purple with red undertones and red and purple microshimmer. I found it needed three coats to be opaque, and the formula was on the thinner side (though it didn’t feel runny).
- Military is a light black with silver sparkles and a matte finish. It’s like a blacker version of Studded. It dries really fast, as many mattes do, and it was incredibly pigmented–you could almost get away with just one coat.
- Morning.After. is a pain in the butt to photograph, because it looks bluer in natural light and tealer in more direct light. It’s more of a dusty blue-teal with heavier blue tones than green/teal tones. There is a little bit of visible nail even with three coats, though.

i hate how matte n/p look on the nail. i always want to get some top coat and put it on. or else it looks 1/2 way done. christine can u please do a swatch comparison of mac morning after and opi suzi says fung shua -since so many people are saying it is so similiar- i just dont know but want to see it. i totallu am getting the purple n/p! i love purrples!
It varies by the shade - Military had great application and color, even if the color was dupeable. So Rich So Pretty had some brush strokes in it, and while Morning After. had a nice application, it wasn't opaque in three coats.
Hi Christine, how similar is So Rich So Pretty to Violet Fire from Style Warriors? Are they different enough to warrant having both? :)
I don't think they're really similar - they have the same sparkle/semi-metallic finish, but Violet Fire is more violet and blue-based.
I won't lie, I want all of these but am probably only going to get Morning After. 12 dollars is pricy for nailpolish!
Thanks so much for the reviews and swatches, Christine! I have a question: how similar is So Rich So Pretty to Violet Fire from Style Warriors?
So Rich, So Pretty and Morning After just seem really dupe-able, but I'm definitely going to pick up Military. It's a nice alternate to black, since the complete black nail trend is going out.....and I absolutely love the packaging and Alice and Olivia, so I know I have to pick up something from this collection..... wish there were eyeshadows though... :/
morning after is gaw-gous i love bright colors mac isn't really my favorite brand when it comes to nail polishes but this one might be a winner
So common colors I could say. Alice and Olivia collection doesn't have anything of my favorite shades. I wonder how they look without top coat. Some nail polishes look very different without top coat...that's why I always post photos with the polish in it's original variant. :)
I was thinking of getting these, but the colors didn't wow me over in the store to make me want to get them. Specifically Military, it was just, hmm, haven't I seen that already?
the dark gray shade definitely reminds me of suzi skis in the pyrenees from the opi suede collection.
They're not alike, IMO. So Rich So Pretty is a red-based purple; Violet Fire is a blue-based purple.
I have Morning After because that was my favourite out of the three. Otherwise, I agree that Military looks just like a blacker Studded and So Rich So Pretty looks very similar to OPI's Louvre Me Louvre Me Not.
Hmm, I'm undecided... Military looks like a million other gunmetal mattes and Morning After looks so much less teal on the nails than in the bottle! I can't decide. I think I'm getting So Rich So Pretty though. The swatches are MUCH appreciated! Thanks for all your hard work!
The blue one, Morning After, reminds me a lot of the blue nail lacquer that came out with the Liberty Of London collection. I bought it but I disliked the runny-ness and how sheer it was, even with three coats!, so I ended up returning it. Are these a similar kind of formula as the one from the Liberty of London, that was mentioned above?
No runniness, IMO! So Rich So Pretty was on the thinner side but not runny. Morning After. didn't go opaque for me with three coats, though.
The purple one is really pretty! Purple is my favorite color, and I'm pretty sure I haven't got anything quite like that one. I don't own any MAC nail polishes (even though I have more than 150 nail polishes from other brands and LOVE MAC), so this is gonna be my first. I have always avoided MAC polishes because I keep hearing bad things about the quality (that it's streaky and chips easily), I hope it's not as bad as people say.
I've always had good luck with MAC's nail polish :) No chipping issues for me. Some of them are streakier, but overall, they're fine to me.
Agreed, I've never had a problem with MAC's nail lacquer chipping like crazy. I wear it for days before even a nick in the polish shows up so when people talk about the chipping I'm wondering what the heck they're doing to their nails o_O
Morning. After looks a lot like Suzi Does Feng Shui from OPI's Hong Kong collection. Wonder how similar it is. These looks so cute... too bad they disappoint.
I would say that they're kind of similar, but Suzi Says Feng Shui is definitely a true blue, and Morning After. is like a dusky blue-teal that is just barely teal.
Another matte? *Yawn* So rich, so pretty looks reallllyyy pretty though so might pick that one up! I love the blue but I just feel it's really dupeable.
I wanted Military, but now that I see it on the nail, it looks exactly like Orly's Iron Butterfly. Morning After doesn't look very unique, and So Rich So Pretty I just don't like. Too bad! Actually, I'm happy I don't like them so I can save money! ;)
I just might have to pick up Military. I've never owned a MAC nail lacquer before! $14.50 CAD for a polish really sucks, IMO. Especially since I don't ever paint my nails, just my toes!
