Look: MAC Photorealism Eyeshadow Quad Made Easy
Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

Here’s an attempt at using MAC’s Photorealism eyeshadow quad
The photos are a little wonky, because silly me forgot to change the white balance settings before taking these photos, SO I had to muck around with them (to get the right color) in Photoshop. I think they’re *fairly* accurate, but they just look so edited, so I do apologize! I do recommend substituting a different highlighter in this look, but my goal was to only use the quad’s eyeshadows. But definitely feel free to go with something more neutral and less shimmery for a better look
You will need the following…
- Eyes: Soft Ochre paint pot (neutral beige base), Silver Fog pigment (platinum silver), Image Maker eyeshadow (soft grey-green), Fresh Approach eyeshadow (pastel green), Grey Range eyeshadow (dark teal), Photorealism eyeshadow (soft gold), Make Up For Ever #20L Aqua Eyes (dark teal), Plushlash mascara (black)
- Cheeks: The Perfect Cheek (pale pink), Dior Amber Diamond Skin Shimmer (bronzy highlighter)
- Lips: Front Lit lipstick (sheer white-gold), New Spirit lipglass (peachy-orange), Lychee Luxe lipglass (coral)
- Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 214 (smudge brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
- Substitutes: Photorealism = Nylon; Image Maker = Electra; Fresh Approach = Juxt; Grey Range = Deep Truth+Shimmermoss; The Perfect Cheek = Dame; Front Lit = Tanarama; New Spirit = Love Nectar
Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Soft Ochre paint pot all over the lid as the base with the 249. With the 239, apply Silver Fog pigment with water-based mixing medium on the lower lid. On the inner lid, pack Fresh Approach eyeshadow on using the 239. Apply Image Maker eyeshadow to the middle and outer portions of the lid. Darken crease with Grey Range eyeshadow using the 226. Sweep Photorealism eyeshadow underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with Make Up For Ever #20L Aqua Eyes on lower lash line9. Apply Plushlash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with The Perfect Cheek blush using the 129, then highlight with Dior Amber Diamond Skin Shimmer with the 188. Apply Front Lit lipstick to lips, and then top with New Spirit and Lychee Luxe lipglasses for color and shine.

Thanks a lot for posting this. I was so stoked on the quad and then I took it home and have some trouble getting the full effect of the colours. Now I'm going to pull it out and can't wait to use it!
white balance problem???? really??? Looks so pretty!!! definitely my make up style!!! L O V E it!!!! the brow detail nice :-)
I am so tired of seeing the same look on your eyes. You use different colors but in the pics they all look the SAME. No originality and no deviation...you are stuck in a rut girl and it takes all the fun out of the makeup when you don't do anything new and exciting.
It isnt that I didnt like the look, that is not what I said, nor what I was getting at...the look is the SAME! I even went back through your library of looks and guess what...they are the same. I WANT you to try new stuff, I WANT to see fun, artistic, off the wall, unexpected creativity! You have the means, obviously if you are keeping up a website devoted to all things makeup, so find the creativity I know you have and USE it to your full advantage. Just think of how many more readers you could get if you stepped out of the box you have put your eyes into.
This is a really beautiful look on you. It pulls the green flecks in your eyes to the center of attention. Just lovely...
I love green but this makeup is stunning! It complements your eyes so well!! You look gorgeous! Great color combination like always.
you have such beautiful eyes Christine! the iris! haha i think this eyeshadow really bring out your eyes colour
I missed seeing looks from you Christine! This is very prettiful! I did a similar look with this quad. This quad is absolutely stunning and I havn't been so impressed with a MAC product in a long time.
Thanks, Rachael! More looks more often has been a goal on my list for awhile, but school is not making it easy. Going to redouble the efforts this week :)
you did a great job editing those photos Christine, I do photography as a hobby and I wouldn't have know you edited those at all if you hadn't said mentioned it. :)
Thanks, Bettina! My boyfriend said the same, so maybe it's just the knowledge of how much post editing was required!
My fave quad (& the only one I bought) from the collection! Funny cuz I also was wearing it today but with Moss Scape paint pot underneath. Although green does not look as nice on me as it does on you!
It picked up on the green underneath nicely! Next time, I might try a green pigment such as Antique Green or Kelly Green...
Looks really good. I actually used this palette today. It was my first day back to school so I wanted to use it.
yay girl! you finally busted that quad out! it's for sure my fav of the MUAC collection quads. looking good! i think that's too many exclamation points. oh well. :)
