Look – Experimentation in Gold, Brown, and Black

Just something I messed around with for FUN. Emphasis on fun and experimentation aka not necessarily a look I’d be running around town with on an everyday basis ;)

You will need the following…
- Eyes: Uppity fluidline (antique gold base), Rich Ground fluidline (warm brown base), Going Bananas eyeshadow (bright yellow), Goldmine eyeshadow (gold), Golden Lemon pigment (yellow gold), Beautyburst eyeshadow (warm brown), Carbon eyeshadow (black), Ricepaper eyeshadow (highlight), Feline kohl power (black), Plushlash mascara (black)
- Cheeks: Taupe blush (taupe)
- Lips: Port Red lipstick (cherry red), Cult of Cherry lipglass (bright red), Jampacked lipglass (dark berry)
- Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
- Substitutes: Uppity = Indianwood; Goin’ Bananas = Sour Lemon; Beautyburst = Texture; Feline = Graphblack; Port Red = Russian Red; Cult of Cherry = Russian Red; Jampacked = Desire
Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Uppity fluidline on eyelid as base using the 249 brush. Apply Rich Ground fluidline above that, above the crease with the 249 brush. Apply Going Bananas eyeshadow with the 239 over Uppity fluidline. Repeat, but with Goldmine eyeshadow. With the 249, apply Golden Lemon pigment lightly over Goldmine. Darken outer lid and crease with Beautyburst eyeshadow using the 239 brush. Above crease, apply Carbon eyeshadow lightly to darken and dramatify the look. Sweep Ricepaper eyeshadow underneath the brow bone to highlight. Also sweep Goldmine eyeshadow along brow bone. Finish with Feline kohl power on lower lash line, and Plushlash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Taupe blush using the 129. Apply Port Red lipstick to lips, and then top with Cult of Cherry and Jampacked lipglass for color and shine.

I think it is so amazing that you can blend colors so well without making it look muddy! Great job! :)

Thanks, Heather :)

You look amazing!
I love that lipcolour on you!

Thanks, Eva! I liked the lip, too.

I like this, despite the ‘experimental’ tag. It’s funny, because it reminds me of my own eye look today – less the dark crease.
Are the red lips growing on you? :D

I have to label it such so people don’t think it’s a look I expect everybody to wear around to any event, LOL.
I’ve never had a problem with red lips, I’ve always loved them :)

Normally, I would never think that those colors could blend so well together when it comes to eyes but you make it look flawless and absolutely stunning!!! You’ve inspired me to try something like that!! Thanks Christine!

I thought it could be a really fun combo :)
Thanks!

This look reminds me of my ensign.

How interesting!

I would have liked this without the black. still pretty
Thursday, September 4, 2008
Agreed. The black makes it a bit too top-heavy, and then it competes with the lips.
Friday, September 5, 2008
That’s why it’s just an experimentation :) Totally and shamelessly over the top and bold.
Friday, September 5, 2008
I wanted it to be really dramatic and smokey, but it’d be great for a less dramatic look without the black for sure!
Thursday, September 4, 2008
agree with the two reviewers above me. it’s over the top.
Friday, September 5, 2008
That’s exactly what I was going for :) That’s why it’s an experimentation!

Love these e/s colors together and the lip shade is very pretty on you.

No, I dont like this at ALL! Sorry.
I do love your skills though, and your other looks, you always inspire me.
Friday, September 5, 2008
Sorry you didn’t like it, Calico!

I am glad you posted it – was just giving opinion.
Would love to see more experimental stuff! :)
Thanks!

i like the eyes by themselves, and LOOOOOVE the lips by themselves but not together. too much. but that red looks effin hot on you. :D
Friday, September 5, 2008
I wanted to do something really over the top and shamelessly bold, hence the bold lips and eyes, lol!
Friday, September 5, 2008
Love love love the eye experiment! Perhaps pairing the eyes with a light coat of Eager lipcolor would balance the look a little more.
Friday, September 5, 2008
Thanks, Leah! Interesting, I don’t have Eager, but hm…
Friday, September 5, 2008
In a weird way I like your eye look, especially paired with your lips but I think you should go lighter on the crease, it looks kind of odd.
Friday, September 5, 2008
Thanks for the suggestion, Hannah! Maybe next time ;)
Friday, September 5, 2008
i think if the order of the eyeshadows were reversed then it would be a more wearable look. But this is a great experiment. It’s inspired me to try it in reverse!

That could be an interesting idea, Binky!

Interesting color combo..kind of a different look for you. I’m not sure I would have put such a dark shade of silvery-gray on top..maybe toned it down just a tad?? I love it other wise. I do give you mad props on the lips..I love the lips. :)
