Ha ha…I had a love-hate relationship with this beauty at first, but I finally came up with a smokey-eye look that I got to work on me :)
Smoked out lid with Lancome Le Crayon Khol in Black Coffee, packed Mekong all over lid and dragged to crease, blended MAC Tempting along the crease, MAC Ricepaper to highlight browbone and inner eye. MAC Feline Kohl to waterline. I used NARS Lovejoy for cheeks and for lips, Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Supreme Shine in BG943.

Well, I wouldn’t. I ended up returning this to Sephora. On my lids it simply looked black. …I have black eyeshadow so no thank you. Loved how it looked in the pan and swatched, though!

Hey aramis! Mekong is quite different than Gilt by Association from MAC Style Black. Mekong is dark brown based with gold and GBA is black.
As for pairings, I used this today with MAC Dreammaker as a highlight and on the inner third of the lid. For the middle third of the lid and above the crease I used the plum shade of the NARS Brousse eye shadow duo. Mekong in the outer corner and outer third of the lid. NARS Madly blush over NARS Copacabana Multiple for cheeks. For lips, I used MAC A Way to Love lipstick with MAC Mimmy lip glass.

i love this color but it can be hard to work with just because it is so intense. i use with smokey looks but i can only pull it off on the weekends. i never wear this to work… (this is the only downside). maybe if i had a darker skin tone this would look better to wear in a professional setting.
i still love but it is not an everyday color.

I would look up swatches or visit a store if you can. I remember when I was researching it myself there were comparison blog entries, etc. online. There are also comparisons with it vs. Galapagos (a lighter brown with gold flecks).

I love this eyeshadow it is very pigmented! I use MUFE black liner for my waterline then smudge and blend mekong on my lower lid. For the upper lid I pack French cuff (from blonde red and brunette collection) for the crease I use maira’s mood (from makeup art cosmetics collection) for the the highlight I use vapour and for the finishing touch I add some gold mode pigment on the inner corners. One of my favourite looks.
