Look - Blue Zone Eyeshadow Duo Periwinkle and Lavender

Posted in: Looks, Purple

As promised, I got un-lazy and actually did some REAL makeup. After using the Blue Zone eyeshadow duo, I doubt I’ll be getting any more of the duos. I’m not particularly in love with this one - I think I’d be better off branching off and finding a lavender from another brand. :(

You will need the following…

  • Eyes: Lark About pigment (white duochrome), Blue Zone 2 Eyeshadow Duo (light lavender/dark periwinkle), Parfait Amour eyeshadow (purple), Rite of Spring eyeshadow (purple-toned highlighter), Rave pearlglide liner (purple), Chanel Exceptionnel Mascara (black)
  • Cheeks: Petalpoint blush (soft peachy pink)
  • Lips: Hot Gossip lipstick (cool, bright pink), Crystal Rose lipglass (pink with fuchsia-purple shimmer)
  • Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
  • Substitutes: Lark About = Frozen White; Blue Zone = none for lighter color; Parfait Amour for darker (not a great dupe!); Rite of Spring = Pink Opal; Petalpoint = Breezy; Crystal Rose = Flashmode

Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Lark About pigment all over the lid as the base with the 249. On the inner-to-middle lid, apply Blue Zone duo (light side) using the 239. Apply Parfait Amour to the outer-middle lid. Darken the outer lid using Blue Zone duo (dark side) and drag into crease using the 239. Sweep Rite of Spring eyeshadow underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with Rave pearlglide liner on lower lash line, and Chanel Excetionnel mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Petalpoint blush using the 129. Apply Hot Gossip lipstick to lips, and then top with Crystal Rose lipglass for color and shine.

I bought Mellan doggy socks with rubber grips, because he slips a lot in the kitchen and sometimes his left or right hip will pop out from that in addition to all the normal reasons. Unfortunately, I don’t think he cares for them!

I am not planning to pick up any of these duos but man, Christine, the lavender-periwinkle combo looks gorgeous on you! =)

Thanks, Nosh! I liked how it turned out, I just wish the colors were easier to work with.

Aaaw, Mellan looks so cute, albeit unhappy, hehe :P

LOL, he kept trying to lick at them, and I had to watch him so he wouldn’t ingest one.

So soft and pretty - it really did come out nice!

Christine

Monday, September 29, 2008

Thanks, Heather! I liked how it came out, but it was a lot more work and packing on than I normally like!

This actually came out really pretty, Christine. But It does look different from the other looks. I’ll bet it took some work to get rid of that chalky feel from the duo.

Also, wondering if you can help; I’m looking for a color similar to Cumulus. What would you recommend, MAC or another brand? Thanks girl!

Christine

Monday, September 29, 2008

Thanks, Dawn! It did take a lot of work, and you had to pack on the color - especially the lighter one.

Oh, gosh, I can’t think of a color that’s a great dupe for Cumulus. I’m not actually familiar enough with other brands to know of anything off hand :(

Lol, Mellan looks rather irritated! I really like this look, Christine. What didn’t you like about it?

Christine

Monday, September 29, 2008

Hey Stacey!

Oh, it’s not that I didn’t like it - I don’t like the texture or feel of the duo in practice. It was chalky, the light color needed to be packed on, and it was just more work than I want.

Stacey

Monday, September 29, 2008

Oh dear… disappointing! That was probably the only duo that caught my eye. How do you like the liners? We don’t get them for another 3 weeks!

Christine

Tuesday, September 30, 2008

:( The liners are better for sure! They’re very smooth and last awhile!

I love it. Now I really have to get Blue Zone. I thought I could pass on all the eyeshadows. Can’t wait to see a look with the Team Violets eyeshadows.

Christine

Monday, September 29, 2008

I just wish the texture was better, because it just takes a lot of work to get the duo to… work.

Lovely FOTD! Do you have Asphyxia by Urban Decay? It’s a gorgeous blue-toned light purple, I think you’d look amazing with it.

Have a good day/ evening!

Thanks, Heather! Nope, I don’t have it. It’s always tempted me, though.

Thanks, Rowan :) They are unique colors for the most part, at least!

GOR-GEOUS!! OMG! I love this look!

I recently found Crystal Rose at a CCO, and omg, it’s so the best lipglass. I don’t think there’s anything like it!

And especially with that eye combo! It’s totally un-dupeable, and GORGEOUS!

You look fab, girl!

Christine

Monday, September 29, 2008

Thanks, Mariah!! :) I’m so glad you got your hands on Crystal Rose - it is one of my faves. I have no idea what I’m going to do when I run out!

I forgot to ask, what is it that you don’t like about the duos? Are they just hard to use? For some reason, I seem to have no problems with colors that others seem to have complaints with, like Lotusland. I love that one so much that I want a backup of it. So hopefully I’ll have no problems with Blue Zone once I get it.

Christine

Monday, September 29, 2008

Harder to use, very chalky texture for both. The lighter color requires a lot of packing on to get color pay off.

I looked at the duos today and they just totally failed to grab me. For lavender shades, I swear by Digit but I think the Periwinkle looks really lovely on you.

Same with me :(

Yep, it was :) Thank you!! Happy b-day to your brother, too!

Hey cutie patootie!
Damn, ur so HOT, Chris! This is most def. a good look for you!
“…I’m not particularly in love with this one - I think I’d be better off branching off and finding a lavender from another brand. :(”. Say what? Do you know how fab you look?

Christine

Monday, September 29, 2008

Aww, thanks, Sash ;)

It’s not the look I didn’t like - it was the eyeshadow duo, LOL. It’s way too much work.

I did a very similar look for work this morning and wasn’t impressed with Bluezone. :( While the colors are pretty, I really really really had to pack on the lavender. And for the blue, I ended up reaching for my climate blue to give me some more color. They’re very soft, my opinion at least. Either way, you seemed to manage with it well!

Christine

Monday, September 29, 2008

Exactly, just a lot more work than you should have to do for MAC eyeshadow :( I reached for Parfait Amour for the same reason.

I kept telling him that, but he still snubbed me!

Happy Birthday girl! =]
This looks really lovely. I adore lavender on you! I’m too pale for pastel springy colors, but now I’m tempted to at least go for some cool purples, as opposed to the warm plum that’s really popular this year for fall fashion.

Oh, I also had a makeup thing I need help with.
I have a problem getting my eyeshadow to go on thick enough with a brush. I get so frustrated that I usually end up just using my fingertips, which obviously is messy and inaccurate. Could the problem be that I’m trying to use a compact eyeshadow instead of a loose power? Thanks, C.

Christine

Monday, September 29, 2008

Thanks so much! :)

Hmm, what brush are you using, and what eyeshadows? Sometimes you might be working with a stubborn shadow or texture, which would be better applied with a sponge-tip applicator instead. I use the 239 with just about every shadow, and I haven’t had many problems with it.

Gorgeous hair!!! And even more gorgeous eyeshadow look :) I’d never have the guts to pull off something that colourful. But it looks stunning on you!

P.S. Did you use a curling iron on your hair? Or are those natural waves? Either way, it looks great…I’m just wondering cause I’ve got really similar hair (super-thick, same dark colour, etc…) and I’ve always been terrible with any sort of wave or curl.

Christine

Monday, September 29, 2008

Thank you so much! I used a curling iron - FHI Heat’s 1 1/4″ to be precise. :) I’m a total hair dummy, and I’ve been able to use it thus far with no problems. I find that with my super thick hair I need higher heat settings, so I just make sure to use a heat protectant before hand.

Another great combination, just as I was thinking how else can I use Lark About for! And Petalpoint. I like the way you did your hair too :D

Mellan has that look in his eyes - MOM! Do not take a picture of me with these socks! Pleaseeee?

Christine

Monday, September 29, 2008

I love Petalpoint :) I keep reaching for it lately!

HAHA! yes, poor Mellan, he really did not like those socks!

Tekoa

Sunday, September 28, 2008

Awwwwww! The puppy is dissatisfied with the state of his world!

I have Deep V Shallow and I must say, not impressed. I really have to grind down on the pale green side to get any hint of colour. Then there’s the chalkyness and awkward packaging. Oh well. MAC hasn’t flopped on anything since the Stylistics launch. Not a bad record.

Christine

Monday, September 29, 2008

I know :( I don’t think those socks will work out. He makes it an event just to get them on, LOL.

The packaging is so adorable in the sense that those duos are TINY, but let’s face it, I’m going to stick them in the back of a bin or drawer and never remember to use them.

OHMYGOD!
the blue is GORGEOUS.
it looks absolutely stunning on you Christine… i think it’s because your skin tone really matches that sort of blue. loving it!! please wear that periwinkle blue more :D

Christine

Monday, September 29, 2008

Thanks, Viv! :)

LOL, I have to own some more periwinkle colors first!

Selene

Sunday, September 28, 2008

thats gorgeous!
i really love that look. :)

if you’re still looking for a lavender, Urban Decay’s Asphyxia is the prettiest lavender EVER! its really worth looking into. :D

Christine

Monday, September 29, 2008

That’s two for Asphyxia, so I’ll look into it for sure!

Thanks, Selene!

Annie

Monday, September 29, 2008

You look beautiful! I love this color combination on you. And here I was wondering what else to do with Lark About.

On a side note, don’t worry about Mellan hating the doggy socks. We bought doggie booties for our dog. She hates them with a passion, she decided she would absolutely not walk when she has them on.

Christine

Monday, September 29, 2008

Thanks so much, Annie! :)

LOL! Yeah, these are such a pain to get on, and then he wants to go outside to potty, and I don’t think these will work out,ha!

Elle

Monday, September 29, 2008

I laughed out loud at the Mellan picture. I bought doggie boots for my dog a few years ago, and she actually tossed them off her feet by herself. ;)

I like the look, but like you, I don’t think I’ll be getting these duos. I’ll stick to my regular MAC shadows and see what’s coming up in the next collections…

Christine

Monday, September 29, 2008

Haha ;)

Thanks, Elle! I agree though, the duos aren’t working out as well as I had hoped they would.

Are you aware that new pearglides liners are not recommended to use on the waterline? They look pretty but they seem to have metallic dots on them.

Take care!

Christine

Tuesday, September 30, 2008

Hi Vero, yes I am aware. I didn’t apply mine to my waterline…

My wedding was last sunday the 28th and the MA used this on me and it looked awesome. So awesome I purchased it I totally can’t get it to work right on me. Which sucks because I love the colors I just don’t see how she got it on so well. I can’t pack it on too much since I am a NW15.

Christine

Wow, I never would have thought to use this for a wedding look! How creative!
