Look – All Matte Neutrals

Date: November 23, 2008 - Posted in: Brown, Neutral

I try to get some all-matte looks in from time to time, because it’s basically “out of the box” for me. I gotta tell you, while I don’t have anything against mattes, I just don’t do them often because I don’t have a lot of mattes! But after doing this look, it made me so sad to see all those wrinkles amplified and screaming at me :( I’m not sure if it was a one-time thing or not. Time will tell ;P

How was everyone’s weekend? It’s not quite over yet, but what did y’all do for fun?

You will need the following…

  • Eyes: Soft Ochre paint pot (neutral base), Malt eyeshadow (dark beige-pink), Soft Brown eyeshadow (medium brown), Wedge eyeshadow (cool brown), Bisque eyeshadow (soft beige), Urban Decay Honey 24/7 Liner, Plushlash mascara (black)
  • Cheeks: Enough Said blush (soft peach)
  • Lips: Calvin Klein Lipgloss in Maven
  • Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
  • Substitutes: Enough Said = bronzer

Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Soft Ochre paint pot all over the lid as the base with the 249. On the inner lid, apply Malt eyeshadow using the 239. Apply Soft Brown eyeshadow to the middle of the lid. Darken the outer lid using Wedge packed on and drag into crease using the 239. Darken crease with Wedge eyeshadow using the 239. Sweep Bisque underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with Urban Decay Honey 24/7 Liner on lower lash line, and Plushlash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Enough Said blush using the 129. Apply Calvin Klein Maven lipgloss for color and shine.

I reeeally dislike Honey by UD, I just don’t like gold liner. BUT, this look is so amazingly beautiful that it’s ok! ANOTHER #1 from me! Lovelovelove :) Love everything about this look.

I love the raspberry/burgundy lip color. How do you like the lipgloss? Is it a good texture or sticky? I recently bought a CK Delicious Luxury Creme lipstick in Show Stopping. I like it and want to go back to try some more of the line.

    • Christine

      Tuesday, November 25, 2008

Thanks, Kat! :) I love the gloss! I think it has some stickiness to them (I love sticky glosses, so it’s not a problem for me!). I love the pigmentation!

The paint pots don’t help with the crepe-y creasing problem, I’ve had that happen to me before too. Try using a Paint instead of a Paint pot, I usually have better luck with those, or maybe UDPP.

    • Christine

      Tuesday, November 25, 2008

I’ve never really had this problem before, and I use Soft Ochre as a base often enough. Paints tend to get a little oily on me for some reason :( UDPP creases, LOL.

Wrinkles? Mi’lady, you areth seeing things. I like the matte eyes, yet something seems missing…more Wedge? A bit of Mineral? I shall experiment.

    • Christine

      Tuesday, November 25, 2008

The inner corner are! I swear they’re there ;P

Yes, I think the crease could be a little darker, little more prominent.

Hey Christine! Pretty…I think you should wear more berry lip colors more often. It looks good and I think it really stands out nicely with your dark hair color.

    • Christine

      Tuesday, November 25, 2008

Thanks so much! :) I tend not to only because I do more dramatic eyes (and the popular vote goes for dramatic eyes, too), but I do love them :)

I don’t see the wrinkles! It’s definitely odd to see you with rather dewy complexion and matte eyes. I think I like it though. A lot of times you see people with a matte face and shimmery eyes to stand out, and this makes them stand out equally…and it’s different from the norm without being crazy.

    • Christine

      Tuesday, November 25, 2008

lol! It’s funny, I feel like dewy foundations make me look sweaty!

      Thanks!

    Monday, November 24, 2008

this look is EXACTLY what i need for new years parties!
how do i do this look while trying to make my eyes look bigger (rounder) at the same time?

    • Christine

      Tuesday, November 25, 2008

      Oh, wow! Thanks, Tinnie!

Try lining the lower lash line and inner corner with a shimmering white shadow or liner.

  24. Nicole

    Monday, November 24, 2008

The Malt on the inner lid looks strange, not so well blended and a little bit to light in my opinion, but the rest is just amazing. I like it.

    • Christine

      Tuesday, November 25, 2008

Thanks for the tip! What would you have used instead?

      • Nicole

        Wednesday, November 26, 2008

I’m not so into matte finishes. Maybe a litte darker color, which looks not so floury or something with a more pinkish base.

Or you exchange Malt with Shroom or another light color with a hint of shimmer or you try Bisque on the inner V as well. I think this would look better, because the crossing between Malt and your natural skin color is too harsh. I believe you can soften this area and reach an more harmonically look.

        I hope that helps.

        • Christine

          Wednesday, November 26, 2008

Got it, thanks for the suggestions! The eyes were deliberately all matte though — is Bisque matte?

          • Nicole

            Wednesday, November 26, 2008

            You’re welcome.

I checked the MAC page. Bisque has a matte finish too, but it doesn’t look so matte under your browbone.

I love this..I keep looking at this over and over..so fresh and new..heck this is sexy girl..what wrinkles??

  27. Anitacska

    Monday, November 24, 2008

I like the lips and the face, but don’t like the eyes, sorry. Especially the eyeliner, odd colour choice tbh. I don’t really do matte either, so that’s really my taste, but you do look nice as always. :)

    • Christine

      Tuesday, November 25, 2008

What would you have suggested instead for the eyes?

      Thanks!

  28. Claudia M.

    Monday, November 24, 2008

When I looked at the first picture, I thought “meh”, but it looks good in the full face pic. You look so cute, younger maybe?
Not too crazy about the gold eyeliner, but the lips more than make up for it, gorgeous color =)

    • Christine

      Tuesday, November 25, 2008

      Thanks, Claudia :)

I am in love with this look! I am going to go buy and fill a quad tomorrow with these colors. I am also going to go swatch this CK gloss to see if it’ll work on me. (Never paid attention or bothered to check out the CK makeup line at my department store.)

You should totally do something like this again. You look awesome!

    • Christine

        Hey Christine!

I made these shadows into a quad at my MAC Pro and the girl said “What a GREAT quad!” She was all excited about the matte/neutral color combos and I told her I got the idea from someone’s site online! Looks like you impressed even the pro girl!

Oh nice! I’m so flattered :) Mostly just by you liking these shadows so much that you made it into a quad!
