Look – A Rose Romance Soft Purples

Date: Friday, April 24th, 2009 Author:

To compensate for the site being down intermittently, here’s a Rose Romance look I did yesterday. I think it’s the first time I’ve worn eyeshadow in two weeks ore more! I just always run out of time and end up going with a minimal to no makeup face these days. I’m working on it, though!

You will need the following…

  • Eyes: Soft Ochre paint pot (neutral beige base), Et Tu, Bouquet? eyeshdaow (glittery peachy-pink), Of Summer eyeshadow (lilac), Creme de Violet eyeshadow (warm purple), Shadowy Lady eyeshadow (dark burgundy-purple), Shroom eyeshadow (highlighter), Benefit BADgal Liner (black), Plushlash mascara (black)
  • Cheeks: Summer Rose beauty powder (cool pink-purple), Dior Rose Diamond skin shimmer (light pink)
  • Lips: A Rose Romance lipstick (pinky-purple), Magnetique lipglass (fuchsia-purple)
  • Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 214 (smudge brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
  • Substitutes: Et Tu, Bouquet = Gleam; Of Summer = Beautiful Iris; Summer Rose = Well Dressed; Way to Love = Hue; Magnetique = no dupe

Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Soft Ochre paint pot all over the lid as the base. On the inner lid, apply Et Tu, Bouquet? eyeshadow using the 239. Apply Of Summer eyeshadow to the middle of the lid. Darken the outer lid using Shadowy Lady eyeshadow using the 239. Darken crease with Shadowy Lady eyeshadow using the 226, then overlay with Creme de Violet eyeshadow. Sweep Shroom eyeshadow underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with Urban Decay Ransom Liner on lower lash line, and Plushlash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Summer Rose beauty powder using the 129, then highlight with Dior Rose Diamond skin shimmer with the 188. Apply A Rose Romance lipstick to lips, and then top with Magnetique lipglass for color and shine.

Very pretty! I’m in the same boat with having no time to put makeup on. I went to work with no mascara yesterday, GASP!!! Lately, I’ll do face at home and eye makeup on the BART train and I’m gettin pretty good at it!

    Question what is overlay?
“then overlay with Creme de Violet eyeshadow”

    • Nicole15 says:

I will let Christine answer for sure, but my take on her statement is that she placed Creme de Violet over the places she put Shadowy Lady (outer part of lid & crease). This is called an overlay. Creme de Violet lightened up the crease, etc. since Shadowy Lady is matte & quite a dark purple.

    • Christine says:

      Thanks, Tatiana!

Basically, it means I put Creme de Violet over the other shadows :)

This is so gorgeous! You pull off those lilac tones so well! I don’t think I can wear purples on my lips, but Magnetique & Summer Rose look fantastic on you!

Stunning! I really like purples with your skin tone.

My boyfriend is coming with my MAC package tomorrow; can’t wait to try this collection out! Kind of bummed I didn’t get Loving Touch after seeing your swatches though. :( Poop.

I have been a fan of your site for quite some time now and it’s my first time to comment.=) Gorgeous as always! No wonder you won the glam awards=)

  19. Kella says:

Your skin looks a little strange here – you can see your real skin colour by your hairline, and your foundation looks very light and pink. I wonder if it’s just not photographing well. What foundation was this?

    • Christine says:

It’s probably reflecting light, though my face is darker than my neck, so I do have to use a lighter color on my face, which would be why my hairline is darker.

    Really pretty!!!

I LOVE your looks and I LOVE trying them on me. I ALWAYS give you credit where is it due. You do so much for us makeup whores and we love you so dearly! Thank you creating such beautiful looks! You are a true inspiration!

  22. CeeBee says:

Man, I wish I could pull off purple eyes and pink lips together – it looks AMAZING on you but I can never quite get the same look to work on me (and we have similar colouring) and I always wimp out and go for nude or beige lips instead… :-(
It would look great with a deep smudgy purple liner too, I think.

    Very pretty.

    • Christine says:

Thanks, CeeBee! :) I wonder why you don’t find it works on you! I do feel weird in such bright lip colors, though!

      • CeeBee says:

:-) You’ll be pleased! I was so inspired by this look and kept thinking about it… so I finally tried it out a few days later – I used the Dior Petal Shine 809 eye palette and toned the bright purple down a bit with soft pink and taupe, used Dior Precious Violet eye liner and then totally rocked YSL Lip Twins Pink Harmony satin lipstick. Very bright!
        And it worked!
I got several compliments, so many thanks to you Christine!!!

  23. Sash says:

Well, don’t you look radiant! You’re glowing, hon!! Nice.
