Lippmann Collection Happy Birthday Nail Lacquer Review, Photos, Swatches

Lippmann Collection: Happy Birthday

Lippmann Collection Happy Birthday Nail Lacquer ($18.00 for 0.50 oz.) is a splattering of multi-colored, multi-sized confetti glitter in a clear base. Even though it’s a clear base, and a part of me wishes it had some sort of colored base, I think this is actually incredibly fitting and suits the name “Happy Birthday.” It’s definitely a party on your nails! Lippmann lacquers always last really well on me with an exceptionally durable and chip-resistant formula.

I find Lippmanns are some of the easier glitter polishes to remove as well–I know I’ve said it before, but my removal process is to soak a cotton pad in remover, then press against the nail, repeat on all the nails, then go back and start to actually remove the polish.

The only kicker of this product is the $18 price tag (which is notably $2 more than their usual shades), which is particularly hefty and starts to creep into the higher-end territory. I don’t really think any polish at $18 or $28 outdoes a polish that’s $8 so significantly to literally merit the extra bucks. As always, I compare brands against their competitors, and Lippmann seems more in line with the price points of Chanel and Dior lacquers.

Bottom Line: In the end, Lippmann is priced as a more high-end polish, so if it’s worth it to you, go for it — and if it’s not, no shame in that game. I will say I don’t have anything even remotely similar to this in my collection, and I haven’t (personally) seen anything like it, either.

This polish is very funky and pretty. It is probably my favourite Lippmann glitter polish. It reminds me of a pair of shoes I have seen.

Really? I like it, but Ruby Red Slippers is still my #1 Lippmann!

Interesting… a pair of shoes like this you say… I want to see!

Yeah, it was a pair of ballerina flats by Roberto Vianni. The multi-coloured glitter in this nailpolish reminded me of the sequins on the shoes. The shoe is covered with sequins in the same colour scheme as the nailpolish. Unfortunately, it was from a collection from a few seasons back and I can’t find a picture of it. I am still kicking myself for not buying those shoes.

ever since you asked about glitter nail polish the other day i’ve been semi obsessed. i just bought this covergirl stuff, which has the hexagons and the microglitter in silver, but it’s just not glittery enough for me. are there other dupes you can recommend that aren’t as pricey as the Lipmann? i LOVED the ruby slippers. should i just splurge for that?

      Hey Yvette,

I haven’t tried too many other glitter polishes. Zoya has some AWESOME glitter polishes, but they don’t have the hexagonal shapes (if that was something you wanted to have) – they’re cheaper (about half the price of Lippmann) and they’re definitely glitter-tastic!

used it over white to make it look like cupcakes with sprinkles.
it’s a pain to get off, but well worth it!!! :)

Defenetly agree, would have loved if it had a colored base…

    But its unique!

At least it means you can layer over anything!

OMG, that is such a rip off, LOL. No offense, if you have the money buy it, but you can make this yourself, get a bottle of clear polish and add a glitter mix that looks like this from a craft store. Lippmann is usually really awesome and unique, but this is highway robbery, its honestly worth no more than 3-4 bucks, huge profits for them, they are very smart people.

I don’t know if they’re the same grade of glitter? That would be my concern. I like that it’s clear in the sense that you can easily layer it with any polish.

I don’t know much about crafts, but can you buy glitter that comes in a bunch of sizes? I guess what I’m asking is do you just have to buy one glitter container or do you have to buy 3-4 to get the different sizes? (It gets less and less a cheap fix if you have to do that, you know?) Like I said, I know pretty much nothing about crafts, so that’s why I’m asking you! :)

HAHA, yeah I get what your saying, I’ve seen them at michael’s, they sell multiple combinations of color like blue, white, pink or red, green, white that are chopped in different sizes.

I like it, it would probably look good over a pink or red nailpolish. But i’ve always found that glitter nailpolishes are very hard to remove.

    • Christine

      Wednesday, November 11, 2009

It’s good for layering for sure :) I’ve found they’re harder, but they’re not that hard, IMO. I don’t know – for the bad rep they’ve gotten for removal, I felt like they were way easier than I thought they’d be!

I love it, but Lippmann is way to expensive! Do you know a dupe for this?

    • Christine

      Wednesday, November 11, 2009

      Hey Suzanne,

I don’t know of any dupes, but a reader did suggest just taking glitter from a craft store and mixing it with clear polish!

Oh, yeah – a lot of Lippmann polishes are kind of that way, but yet I love ‘em (and I’m usually not into gimmicky stuff).

This is my absolute favorite polish from Lippmann. I just received it yesterday. The price is a bit high but I was lucky to get it 20% off via beauty.com’s f&f sale. The colors are so bright and vibrant that it just makes me so happy.

This nail color looks awesome! I’m going to have to try it. Can anyone recommend a super gritty glitter nail polish? I read somewhere that if you have a hard time keeping nail polish on your nails, it helps to put a glitter under two coats of the color you want! Has anyone tried this? Nail polish doesn’t stay on my nails for longer than a day without chipping!!!!! It’s so annoying. Doesn’t matter if I do it myself or get a manicure. Thanx for your help :)

      Interesting idea… hmm.

China Glaze’s new glitter shades can be gritty…
