Gossip Girl Leighton Meester is not looking her finest here. Those eyes are just so dark, so heavy for her face… too harsh of a black, and the lips have too much color to pair with such heavy eye makeup. What do you think?

I agree that the eyes shouldn’t have been so dark. And what’s up with the shoes??
I really like her, so call me biased but her makeup doesn’t look too bad. You’re right it’s a little harsh but love her lipcolor!
I agree with you 100% Christine, it’s all too much, either one or the other, it really over powers her face.

I love her but she’s not shining like how she usually does! Lighter makeup looks better on her (in my opinion) but I think its the shape of the eyeshadow that bothers me the most…
her hair is a bit of a mess. I LOVED her makeup in the cobra starship music video which was dark.. this one doesnt look as good.. still love her tho!
I actually like it. I don’t think the lips are making competition with the eyes. I don’t really think it’s a stand-out lip color.
I dont mind the lips so much but the eyeshadow (other than being to dark) looks alittle bit off to me…almost messy like…i cant quit put my finger on it
I think the hair is actually the major culprit here.
Is it just me or does her eyeshadow not match? I mean it doesn’t look symmetrical so her eyes kind of look lopsided.

she needs to tone it down just a little bit….i love her though, she USUALLY wears very natural looking makeup. She’s very pretty regardless and I’m jealous lol
I don’t think her makeup is the problem. All she needed was maybe a lighter lip colour and more defined brows. It’s defs HER HAIR that is making her look shabby.

i think she looks great…very rocker chic, ‘i roll out of bed with my hair+makeup messed up’ look…and her shoes are amazing, i think they are guiseppe zanotti. i am sure she will be on most best dressed lists. she is becoming more new york fashion conscious (thank goodness) rather than LA, girls from 90210 fashion-ugly.
Yes, her eyebrows need a bit more definition, but otherwise her look suits the MTV VMA’s. Kinda edgy with a bit of rocker vibe, even though she isn’t.
i like her makeup way more than her dress.
I liked this look – it’s very fashion forward/edgy I like that she took a risk. Like Rachel Bilson, I like her style and that she dresses differently from the other upcoming young actresses.
Ha, ironically I wasn’t a fan of Beyonce’s look.
I agree with v. I don’t think it looks that bad given the event she’s attending. She wanted to go for a certain look and I think she pulled it off. I find that a nude lip isn’t always compulsory with dark eye makeup, its fun to change it up sometimes.
Isn’t this kind of look what is trendy for A/W, though? You know, black, carefully crafted (whether meant to look messy or not) eyes?
I actually really like it- Its very sultry. She usually does the same sort of look s its nice to see her step out of the box- its a big grand event and you would want your makeup to stick out and not blend in.
I dont think its all that bad but I do agree that she usually looks better. I think the shape of the eyeshadow is wrong for her face shape. If shed kept it more defined I think it would have been very pretty.
I was so disappointed when I saw her… I love Leighton. Shes so beautiful but her make up artist needs a slap for what they did to her. She doesnt need to wear that much make up.. or in such an extreme style. Like her hair though!
Such a beautiful face doesnt need so much make up! Her lips are perfect but her eyes would have beneficited from a less abundant make up.
I thought it was cool but more work was required on the brows and hair. I like how she changed her style here. Im not a fan of the outfit though.
i really like her outfit, esp the shoes! They make her legs look long and lean. Her eye makeup is a bit heavy and her under eye circles seem to be accentuated by it.
I love it. Thank god she wasn’t rocking the usual boring neutral eye makeup. Makeup is about creativity not the same looking like it’s not even there looks you always see. And that lip color is pretty! I don’t think corpse lips would have been flattering.
I think since Leighton was presenting “Best Rock Video” and they did the whole “Metal” talk before giving the award, and that she was up for an award that the makeup fit that. Maybe it could have been done better, but well it is just the VMA’s.

I think she is a beautiful girl, and I don’t think there is anything wrong with the idea of this look, but I think what went wrong here is that she appears to be ill at ease trying to pull it off. She could totally rock this look if she wanted to… her usual confidence seems to be missing here IMO.
I love her makeup! I don’t think the eyes are too dark. and the lip color doesn’t really stand out so much to say that it competes with the eyes. It’s very sexy to me.
I think that personally it’s too dark. But this is the VMA’s. I mean, everyone’s wearing out-there stuff and I think Leighton Meester is always gorgeous. My favorite is actually her lip color
