We want to make sure that you can enjoy yourself on Temptalia by experiencing the different features and posts on the site, both new and old.  To simplify matters, we have put together a little how-to on navigating through the website!  Everything is categorized and indexed with search engines and easy finding in mind, so we hope that this helps you find what you’re looking for and maximizes your user experience.  Let me know if this helps you!

To learn about the features of the site…

At the very top of the page, there is the Temptalia logo, and to the right of it is a Search Box.  Simply type a keyword (or two or three) to find what you’re looking for.  For example, if you want to see if I’ve ever used “Bombshell lipstick” just type in “Bombshell.”  If I have, the post(s) will turn up in the search results.

Beneath the logo is a list of “Most Popular Posts.”  These are given a popularity rating based on an algorithm that takes into account how many people have viewed it, how many other sites have linked to it, comments, etc.  It resets each month and changes often.

To the right of Most Popular Posts is “Featured Posts.”  This is a list of posts that I have specifically selected as good posts to check out either as a regular or new visitor to the website.  The list tends to revolve around good basic tips/tutorials and common asked questions (like what brushes I use, how do I take my photos, etc.).

Below Most Popular & Featured Posts is the big kahuna–the navigation.  The navigation includes eight categories:  home, features, looks, tutorials, reviews, latest launches, brands, and site news.  Whenever you want to be taken back to www.temptalia.com, you simply click on Home (which is also found at the bottom of each page).  The rest of the navigation options will drop down menus of subcategories when you put your mouse arrow over it.

  • Features:  these are “columns” or certain “types of posts,” like Beauty Breakdowns from Fashion Week or Award Ceremonies or Temptalia Asks You.
  • Looks:  these are all of the looks I have posted on the website arranged by color–many looks will be in multiple color categories, so just because you select “green,” doesn’t mean you won’t see a look that uses both green and gold.
  • Tutorials:  these are organized by target areaeyes, face, lips, makeup tips, and videos.
  • Reviews:  these are organized by product type–e.g. moisturizers, body creams, or nail polishes.  There is an additional category “MAC Cosmetics Collections,” which are full reviews on new MAC launches.
  • Latest Launches:  these are organized by season–e.g. Summer 2008–of various new products, collections, etc. that different brands are coming out.  There is also simply a “By MAC Cosmetics” option, which shows solely new MAC products/launches.
  • Brands:  these are organized by brands–e.g. Clinique, Estee Lauder, MAC–so you can find all posts that have to do with X, Y, or Z brand.  Some brands may not appear on the site often, and so they are in “Other.”
  • Site News:  learn about the website through the subcategories–e.g. About, Links, Submit to Temptalia.

Each navigation option pops out a drop down menu so you can select various options, but there are generally more options available to you than you can see.  Click on the VIEW MORE option found at the bottom of any drop down menu that has additional categories.

Once you click VIEW MORE at the bottom of any drop down menu from a navigation option, you will be brought to a page with all of the categories available to choose from on the site.   We do this because it allows us to micromanage the website without cluttering up menus at the same time.

To the right side of the website, you will find an enlarged RSS button, which allows you to subscribe to our website through e-mail.  Simply imput your email address and click “Subscribe.”  You will receive a short email each day about the latests posts from the blog.  Beneath this is our “Recent Readers,” which are people who have stopped by to check out the site lately throug MyBlogLog.  Beneath this is our MySpace button, which will take you to Temptalia’s official MySpace page (feel free to friend us!).

Each entry is situated in a very similar way.  If you click the title of the entry (at the very top of the entry), it will take you to a page where only the entry is shown.  Sometimes a post will include a graphic that describes the kind of post it is (e.g. the one pictured above tells you it’s a Temptalia Asks You post and how to submit a question).  Some posts are too long and will be indicated by a link that reads:  “Read the rest of this entry ».”  This way you can read the rest of the entry.

Each entry is followed by pink box with six different links in it.   First column links:  1) allows you to read/post comments; 2) Stumble It! means you can submit it to Stumble! to share a post you like with others.  Second column links:  1) Add to Favorites allows you to add it to your favorites if you want to be able to easily come back to the post; 2) <3 on Sugarloving allows you to share it with others on Sugarloving.com.  Third column links:  1) E-Mail to a Friend allows you to share with a certain person; 2) Join our RSS Feed allows you to get updates via email or your feed reader about the latest posts at temptalia.

Underneath the pink box is “Posted In:” which indicates what categories/subcategories the post was filed into.  So say you’re reading a post about Chanel lipglosses, you’ll find it categorized by brand (Chanel), as well as by product type for the review (lip gloss) — you can easily click either category to see more posts like it.

At the end of the page, there is a link called “Previous Entries.“  This allows you to go back to the previous ten entries, and you can continue to go back in time.  These posts are arranged from most recent to oldest.   There is also a link to Home and RSS Feed for your convenience.
