I went for noticeable but not 100% opaque, though I have to admit that I seldomly wear vampy lipstick anyway…
I like all three types for different looks.
I actually like all three variations at different times. As long as they apply evenly, I’m happy. And I love me some vampy lips!
I want serious opacity.. enough that I can blot out the lipstick if I want a sheerer look. I find the satin finishes to have blotchy coverage and come off just as fast a lipgloss on me. The more matte, the more opaque, the better. I would rather have to add a bit of gloss if needed.
Totally opaque, otherwise you don’t really have the heavy vampy impact.
I think all three have their place, but “vampy” to me requires a lot of pigmentation to make the lips dark, so I chose opaque.
Totally opaque, then I can choose wether I want to blot it for a lighter look or not. Today I wore a gorgeous dark wine/purple, but blotted for a softer look. For parties I’m more likely to wear it fully opaque
Agreed, i prefer the option to create a sheer or opaque look.
I love doing that with purples too, any good ones you can suggest?
I find the Chanel lip pencil, Amarante(?) is a fabulous, perhaps warm-ish purple that you can make as sheer or opaque as you want. I use it as a base and warm it up with a dark red but you might prefer the lip pencil by itself.
Thanks, I’ll check it out
I love Revlons Va Va Violet, according to the dupe list it’s similar to MAC’s Cyber. An opague layer gives it a dark edgy look, but blotted down it’s a gorgeous deep purplish wine red
Thanks, I’ll pick that up when I’m next in Boots
I said opaque because all of the vampy lipsticks I have are opaque. However, I wouldn’t mind a stain.
Have you tried lip inks? They might give you the look you want and you can get them in quite a lot of colours now.
I haven’t yet. I have only recently gotten into vampy lipsticks, so I only have two. My regular colors are more of the blue and neural based pinks. Those I have tons of.
There is a difference between “dark” & “vampy”. If it’s not opaque, then it’s just not vampy. I have some very dark glosses & sheer lipsticks I absolutely love, I just don’t see them as vampy.
I find the more sheer, the less vampy.
Can I be a pain and say all of the above? it really depends on exactly what look I’m going for. I guess I prefer a really opaque one because I can always make it stain or dilute it myself.
Go big or go home!
It depends, again I like matte, It can be a stain or totally opaque vampy color, not sheer, and no shimmer , frost or shiny
All of the above.
Go hard or go home! Or as Ron Swanson eloquently states, “Never half-ass two things. Whole-ass one thing.”
haha I agree with everyone who said “all of the above” although on a daily basis/most of the time, I’d go with sheer
Opaque, because it is so easy to play with opaque lipsticks! You can wear them as a stain, or very sheerly, or full on. I feel like you get your moneys worth if you buy something very opaque to begin with.
I would wear than anyway, but I’m the biggest fan of the opaque lip, no matter the category. If you’re going to vamp it up, make sure everyone knows it.
