  1. People who voted light-medium: what foundations are you using?

I’ve got Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation at the moment, which I love, but I’m on the lookout for products similar in texture (easy to spread, not too thick or runny) and coverage (light/light-medium when used sparingly, can be built up to medium-full without caking).

    • At the moment, I’m using Bobbi Brown’s Natural Finish Long Lasting Foundation SPF 15–but I am looking for something that controls oil a bit more/doesn’t make my face so shiny after a few hours. Any have any good recs for light-medium coverage foundation for those with oily skin??

I’m currently using Diorskin Forever Flawless Perfection Wear Makeup (that name is such a mouthful) and like it a lot. It’s long wearing, natural looking, has a serum-like texture and withstands oil pretty well, but doesn’t dry matte (more like a natural finish) so dry skinned people might like it too.

    • Guerlain Lingerie de Peau is perfect as is, and MUFE HD is just right mixed with a little bit of moisturizer.

I’ve recently started using Clinique’s Stay Matte liquid foundation and it gives a light to medium coverage without feeling heavy or cakey. Actually, I don’t feel it at all when it’s on my skin which is great, especially for the summer. It is long wearing and wears well on my combo/oily skin.

  2. MadaMadalina

Try L’oreal TRue match super blendable(accord parfait), it has light/medium coverage, and it’s for all skin types, I have combination skin, and it works for me.

It kind of depends.  Sometimes I want something light, sometimes I want to build it up to medium.  I tend to keep a couple different foundations going at once because of that.

  4. Liz

love my sheer coverage “foundation” Becca Luminous skin colour! For everything that needs covering (which isn’t a lot thankfully) there’s concealer!

  5. Miss J

On a typical basis, I go for light-medium to medium coverage.

In summer, I prefer to use a BB cream with the addiition of concealers. In the winter, I tend to use a foundation with more coverage. I have a British Isles pink and while (More pink) complexion with a history of rosacea, sensitivities, was to many spider veins despite laser treatment, and get sunburned and windburned very easily. I don’t go outside in the yard without some protection. It’s that bad.

I’m fortunate to not have serious skin issues, so I can actually get by with a tinted moisturizer, and/or a light dusting of mineralized powder foundation. I go this route for “every day”, but for more formal occasions, I’ll typically go for a full coverage foundation. For work, I’ll go with either a sheer-light coverage or a light-medium coverage.

    •  @xamyx stop reading my mind today, okay?  I really just need to scroll down to your comment and like it. ha!

@wwendalynne LOL, I just read yours, and I’m totally with you. It’s also been so hot here (Los Angeles), after weeks of “June Gloom” (in July), so today I just had errands to run, and all I wore was TM & lip balm.

The best thing is to have a sheer or light FOUNDATION but a high coverage CONCEALER, to achieve the most natural looking skin but still have the coverage. Most people don’t have to cover every single bit of their face, maybe your problem area is your cheeks or your undereyes? Then cover them and keep the rest as light as you can… that’s my opinion, of course!

I actually have plenty of acne scars on my cheeks and that’s what I cover the most, and I keep the forehead, nose and chin pretty sheer.

My favourite foundation ever is Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra 24h, it is pretty full coverage and have a pretty pale shades. A very good light coverage foundation, which also has pale shades, is Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation :)

       @paneradfisk
If you don’t mind me asking what concealer do you use?
I have acne scars all over my cheeks and I’ve always made finding a high coverage foundation my goal since its such a pain to try and cover every little scar on its own with my less than amazing concealer.

  9. I like to have a variety of coverages on hand and switched over to my Nars TM today because I’m moody and today I was all about looking more fresh.  My skin is quite good and so I do not necessarily need coverage, but I do like heavier foundation for a more sophisticated and refined look.

  10. Joni

I prefer really light coverage most of the time.  I’ll buy a tinted moisturizer and mix it with moisturizer.

I prefer natural coverage, but I have a really good color match in MUFE Mat Velvet + Alabaster 15, so I usually sheer it out with sunscreen.  My skin is quite good, so I don’t need as much coverage as the Mat Velvet has.  My main requirement for foundation is good shades for pale, neutral skin, and MUFE Mat Velvet had a near-perfect color match for me.

  12. LuceLuLys

Medium to full coverage; you can sheer foundations out easily with moisturizer, but it’s a lot more difficult and uses tons of product to build sheer foundations up.

  13. I like it to be a medium finish but I buy full coverage foundations and sheer it out to get the coverage i want. they are a lot more versatile.

  14. Alyssamerrick

Very light coverage. I have a ton of freckles so I like them to show through my foundation. But it is tough to find a light coverage foundation that leaves a relatively matte finish and actually lasts for more than a few hours.

  15. eltscott

I want it to feel light. But I want it to give me medium coverage.

  16. nacacijin

I chose Medium because it was the most balanced, but I prefer to keep a variety of coverages (and finishes) on hand so that I can mix/match and switch out different products when I need to. Evening events I like long-lasting, natural to matte full-coverage foundation. For classes I’m more comfortable in something light like a tinted moisturizer. If I’m having a bad allergy day or my skin is breaking out, I prefer something a little heavier, but not quite full coverage. Generally I’ll keep 2 or 3 foundations on hand and choose which one to use on a day-to-day basis.

  17. Cynthia Pleau

FULL !!!!!!!!!! :) but now i use bb cream

  18. Jaqueline Garcia

    FULL!

  19. Amanda Nicole

sheer or none because of my freckles and I don’t need it

  20. Kristi Marie

I don’t want full coverage, just the appearance of clean flawless skin. I tend to like the very runny liquid foundations that give the “expensive skin” look. That way people don’t assume it’s makeup, just good skin.

  21. Kimberly Sharelle Fabian-Smith

I like my freckles and my moles, so shear. Just enough to even out my skin tone around my mouth

  22. Anne Kulaszewicz Wolf

    Full

  23. Avatar of Diana queen_frostine

Sheer to light.  I’m in a very fortunate period of my life where i’m enjoying very good skin and want to show it off while I still can.  I want just enough coverage to mute some of the pink in my complexion and not much else.  I rarely need any more than that, and when I do I just reach for the concealer.

  24. blueraccoon

When I actually use foundation I want it to have medium to buildable coverage, and I love my Perfection Lumiere. But for every day I want something lighter, so I just ordered Burberry’s powder foundation and we’ll see how I do with it. That’s probably sheer to light coverage, but my skin’s mostly okay, so I get away with it. (Even if it’s not okay, I pretend it is :P No one cares if I’m wearing makeup at work.)

  25. hwendy

my skin is not perfect, I would love to have face skin as good as the back of my hand.
but I actually like to show the imperfection, the real face.
I normally use sheer foundation or apply with a very light hand.
sometimes i even just use concealer to cover a bit of scar from break out and I am ready to go.

  26. KK

Sheer.  I HATE the feeling of foundation on my face, so I use just enough to even myself out a little.  I like Cargo’s Blu-Ray powder just dusted a little over my face.  I can’t stand liquid foundation.

  27. MiettaReynolds

I like medium to full…I have keratosis pilaris on my upper arms and I think I’ve got a bit on my cheeks near my jawline. They’re not really THAT bumpy on my face but I still get that sort of…’splotchy’ redness associated with it. I prefer full medium-full because it mainly evens this out. Right now I’m in love with Estee Lauder’s Doublewear, I only just discovered it and it’s the best I’ve used so far.

  28. Avatar of Veronica Veronica

I generally wear it sheer, but if my allergies are acting up and giving my skin a pink tone, I’ll put it on a bit thicker for light coverage.  Generally, I have very good skin, with only the occasional breakout around menses and whatnot.  My problem area is my eyes, which are deep set and have dark circles under them, so concealer is more often when I use when I want to brighten them up.  (You have no idea how much of a sad panda is makes me that YSL’s Touch Èclat does not make a shade light enough for my skin.)  More often, I’m using it as a base for the rest of my makeup, so major coverage isn’t an issue.  (Is there a primer product out there that works without requiring foundation over it?  I would be thrilled to know if there is.)

  29. Viviane Nascimento

    very light…

  30. Shalini Gupta

    Sheer.

  31. Shalini Gupta

    Sheer.

  32. Avatar of Quinctia Quinctia

I want at least medium coverage from a foundation.  When I want less coverage, I wear another/no product.  Like tinted moisturizer.

  33. Avatar of Kathryn kathrynvm

I put medium-full, but only because I have acne. If I didn’t have acne I would probably be light-medium on days when I wore foundation, but when my skin is clear I find concealer and powder foundation do the trick.

  34. Estee Lauder Lucidity….that is the coverage I like.  The other coverage by Estee Lauder is too much for me.  I like coverage to smooth out the imperfections but not too much that it looks like I am wearing a mask.  Lucidity lets my skin shine thru.

  35. Marianne Bekebrede

Sheer to medium, depending on the condition of my skin.

  36. Avatar of Simone simone lymbery

I use mostly tinted moisturiser for day to day wear instead of Foundation but for when i go out i tend to use foundation more (mostly my benefit playsticks which is da bomb!)

  37. I like enough coverage to hide imperfections, but I also wanna see real skin and not look like I’m wearing a mask. I love Illamasqua Skin Base, because I can apply it sheerly and it’s perfect for me.

  38. Generally I just use a tinted moisturizer, but if I’m going to go through the whole process with foundation, I want a flawless finish.

  39. Definitely medium-full…I’m so jealous of ladies who don’t have to worry about covering acne every day!

  40. i’d like my foundation’s coverage to be light-medium, all i want is to have a more even skintone, not too fussed about covering up my freckles or spots, i’ll leave concealers to do their job hehe
