The Hit List

What’s the Best Liquid Illuminator/Highlighter that you’ve tried?

Share your pick!  And don’t forget to share why :)

Kevyn Aucoin’s Celestial Liquid Highlighter is still my favorite because of how fine and thin it is, as I like mixing it with my foundation!

  1. Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone or Pearl, hands down. I haven’t tried Kevyn Aucoin’s liquid illuminator! I’ll have to give it a try sometime.

I’ve been trying to use up my Nars Orgasm Illuminator. I really like it…..not sure it’s love. I’ll try the Kevyn Aucoin next.

  3. Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in the shade pearl :)

  4. Eileen

Armani Fluid Sheer #7 is my favorite liquid highlighter. I use it in the classic “C” shape from browbone to cheekbone.

  5. Josie Maran Argon oil Illuminizer is my favorite. Some illuminizers are way too pink for my skin but this one just gives a little bit of a golden glow to your skin.

  6. Allie

I just picked up the Josie maran one and it’s amazing.

    • I did NOT need to read this. I have to go to Sephora tomorrow (“have to” is moot, I guess) so I’m going to have to make an effort NOT to buy this (but I may ask for a sample).

  7. Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in the color Pearl. The formulation looks a texture that is also creamy but it actually sheers out to such a thin veil that is weightless and virtuously perfect to blend in where needed on the skin leaving a most natural highlight as if it’s my own skin, and it’s completely non-irritating to my ultra sensitive skin which makes me love it even more. As a bonus, a large quantity comes in a pump dispensing bottle which will never run out! It’s such a good value! Another thing is that Nars Matte Multiples aren’t suggested for wear on the eye, but this blended in with it makes it protected and beleivably luminous without any irritation either so it expand my usage of those and especially SIAM.. It lightens it a bit making a bright awakening color on the eyelids which is a great pick me up look making me not need to do anything else. This product just works on so many levels in the most proficient way of any highlighters I’ve used so it’s undeniably and irrevocably my favorite. :) (I think this is a really great question because we all have different skin tones that behave uniquely so reading these will be a beneficial reserve for many looking for highlighters to tap into. xo Christona!) <3

Benefit High Beam and Sun Beam!

I have tried MAC lustre drops, benefit sunbeam, nars copacabana and becca opal. I like all of them but I think Becca one is the best if you figure out how not to overdo it. The one i like the least on nars copacabana because its hard to blend although it is very pretty!

I like The Body Shop’s radiant highlighter.

  11. Another vote here for the Kevyn Aucoin which I also use to mix a tiny bit with my foundation. I can’t use too much or it alters the shade and makes the foundation too dark for my skintone, but that little touch is very very nice. I also like to have a paler pearlescent liquid in my stash too and my vote there goes to Rouge Bunny Rouge highlighting liquid in Seas of Tranquility. It is very similar to Benefit Highbeam, but I like the texture far better, it’s not greasy, and it doesn’t pull up my base layers. Benefit HB makes me look super greasy in about 3 hours and it pulls up base layers even when I use a stippling brush. IMO the RBR is a superior product.

  12. For me, it’s a toss-up between TheBalm’s The Mary Lou Manizer and MAC Strobe Cream – I like them both for sort of different reasons, though I have come to realize that, in the main, powders work better for me than creams or liquids. I recently got the new Clarins Illuminator (which seems to have replaced a virtually identical “old” illuminator except that it’s in a bigger pump-tube) and I like it too for a quick application of something brightening and then “out the door” but I’ve still got to learn how to use it with foundation or mineral powder in a way that works best for me.

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector – the liquid version in Moonstone. The colour, consistency and sheen are wonderful, and it mixes nicely with foundation. I need to go look at the powder version sometime as well as the Kevin Aucoin products. Not sure if the Celestial Liquid highlighter will be available at the Nordstrom counter here in SLC – it would be nice to see it in person.

Becca ssp for (HE) and NYX & Revlon for (DS), although I really liked Revlon Skinlights, I think I need a different shade other than the one I choose and returned.

  15. Aisha

Armani Fluid Sheer in #1. By far the best gold-ish pearly illuminator. Love mixing this with my tinted moisturiser too!

  16. The only one I think I’ve tried is Benefit High Beam…which I wasn’t overly excited about. I would love to try Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfector sometime though!

I love Buxom’s Divine Goddess Luminizer. It mixes so well with any foundation and looks so natural. Not sparkly at all, just luminous and glowy.

  18. I tried NARS Orgasm Illuminator years ago and that was all I needed. It’s all I still need and love. It works so very well on me; if it ain’t broke …..

Nars Copacabana looks great with my fair skin. I like layering it above my blush on my cheekbones.

  20. I’m a becca fan as well, in pearl. My skin is so pale that I feel like the darker/yellower ones make me look dirty. I do use a pink in powder form (korres wild rose highlighter) so maybe it depends on the product.

  21. Hands down Beccaa SSP in Pearl!

  22. I’ve been on an illuminator hunt for the past six months. For the past month, I’ve been using Kevyn Aucoin’s Illuminator, and love it’s subtle and sheer sheen. The Armani Fluid Sheer Illuminator #2 is my next favorite. Then..I also think the Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation Illuminator is also right up there, in refinement and plays very nice with liquid or cream foundations. Benefit’s High Beam, to me, is way too intense to my dark medium skin tone and age..but could be great for pale skin, and evening highlighting.

  23. For me its a tie between Benefit’s Sunbeam and Girl Meets Pearl.

Koh Gen Do illuminator in beige! it’s so subtle yet so beautiful, especially when mixed with foundation.

  25. Josie Maran’s Argan Oil Illuminator mixed with my Kevyn Aucoin Liquid Airbrush Foundation is perfect for me! The Kevyn Aucoin foundation is a little too pink, so balancing it out with the Josie Maran helps make it my perfect color. :)

  26. So far, Rouge Bunny Rouge Sea of Tranquility! I too want to try the Kevyn Aucoin’s Celestial Liquid Highlighter!

  27. Its Colorbar Illuminator pen for me.. NYX chaotic Illuminator also works nicely! :)

  28. Avatar of Helene Helene

It must be MAC Strobe creme.

  29. Avatar of Veronica Veronica

NARS Copacabana, by a pretty decent margin. Great shade for cool-toned women!

I like RMS Beauty Living Luminizer because it adds SHINE as well as highlight. I know that may be strange, but shine makes it look like natural skin and I really like using it as eye shadow b/c I’ve been trying to find a product for a long time that is mostly shine, not frost, for use on my eyes. I love a shiny eyelid look for summer and it’s been really hard to find something to give me that look that will last (not Vaseline) and not make my liner and mascara come off.

  31. I’m not big on liquid highlighters, but Benefit High Beam is probably my favorite.

  32. I’ve only tried the MAC Strobe Liquid and Lustre Drops but I love them both lol. They’re so easy to use and very versatile. I prefer to use my Lustre Drops to highlight certain parts of my face and the Strobe Liquid all over.

Okay, you’re on the verge of selling me the Celestial Liquid.

I have mary lou which works really well for what I want it for but I need something I can mix with my foundation. The couple of foundations I’ve been matched to currently make me look really really dull. My meh skin literally glows after I’ve taken makeup off which is ridiculous.

  35. I love NYX’s liquid illuminator is sunbeam! It looks amazballs on your cheeks !

  36. 3 Concept Eyes Highlight beam, I love love loooove it !! My favorite of all time and you just need a tiny bit of product for all the face (and for body too!). It’s really affordable and long lasting <3

  37. Benefit’s Sunbeam is really lovely on my NC40-42 skin tone (the exact same colour as my skin, except glowy), but I wouldn’t repurchase it because I wouldn’t pay that much (I got it at a 40% discount).

My favourite at the moment has to be Accessorize’s Bronze Highlighter, which is a creamy liquid. At first I thought it would be a dupe of Sunbeam but it’s darker and very orangy and coppery – however, it blends like a dream and looks very natural on warm skin tones like mine. It’s more of a bronzing illuminator than a highlighter. You get tons of product (50 ml I believe!) and it’s often half price at Superdrug so you get it for less than £5!
