Guerlain Rendez-vous (762) Shine Automatique Lipstick
Guerlain Rendez-vous (762) Shine Automatique Lipstick

A Spring Rendez-vous with Guerlain

Guerlain Rendez-vous (762) Shine Automatique Lipstick ($35.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a cool-toned, medium pink with blue undertones and a soft, pearly pink shimmer-sheen. MAC Love Long Distance is cooler-toned. Guerlain Rose Piquant is less cool-toned, milkier. Revlon Strawberry Shortcake is much cooler-toned, almost lavender in comparison. Chanel Charme is a touch lighter. MAC Cheers All Around is a bit warmer.

I thought this color was going to be easily duped, but I couldn’t find many that had the same level of coolness to it; potential similar shades were either much cooler-toned with a stronger blue base, or else they were more fuchsia/brighter.  Rendez-vous has mostly opaque color coverage, but there is a very light translucency and a shimmer-sheen finish that reflects light and gives off shine but doesn’t look too frosted.  It lasted for four hours on my lips, wore away evenly, and was lightly hydrating while I wore it. The formula is supposed to be long-lasting, so four hours is a bit short (I average four hours with regular lipstick formulas; six hours with long-wearing ones).  It had a lightly creamy, glide-on texture that helped during application.  There’s no discernible taste, but it is violet-scented as many Guerlain products are.

This is the kind of color that looks so lovely on others and just horrid on myself. Nonetheless- nice job Guerlain! I could see this having been my first lipstick back in the day.

  2. I thought this one looked sort of similar to the LE Mac shade Laugh-A-Lot from a few years back when I swatched it, but now that I see it on you, it looks more pink and less mauve. Think this would be a great everyday shade for me… This collection is going to get really expensive…

  3. Too cool for me, but still a pretty color.

  4. t_zwiggy

Love the color, unfortunately I can’t wear it because of the awful Guerlain scent that gives me a migraine :(

  5. blueraccoon

I like it but I don’t know if I need it. I already have two other Guerlain lippies from spring launch, do I need a third? Hmm….

  6. Diann_co

    Color looks great on you!

  7. Dominique

It’s a lovely and romantic shade, I have it and I like the violet taste ( subtle though ) in it. It’s quite opaque for a Rouge Automatique Shine, I fully agree.

    • helen

That’s the perfect description, ‘romantic’. I adore this shade but i have no idea if i could pull this off.

  8. this is usually the kind of color I wouldn’t like, but it actually looks really pretty on Christine. Dunno if I’d be able to pull it off, but it’s surprising so far.

  9. Carrie

I love that color and it’s right up my alley, but I don’t know I could handle the scent! Oh well :(

  10. Liz

I don’t think it looks that good with your coloring.

    Pretty!

The Shine lipsticks are my favorites so after reading this excellent review I bought this one, the flirt one, the frizzy mango gloss AND the mascara in violet. I in no way need more mascara but I think it was the packaging that got me. Guerlain gets me every single time….sigh!!!!

This reminds me of Mac, Plumful. Coincedently, I accidentally just washed that lipstick in the washing machine. Sad day.

  14. It’s the perfect pink! However, I know I could duplicate it with another brand. I’m not sure about the scent though. As time goes on I’m a bit more sensitive to fragrance.

The color looks great on you Christine!

  15. ime

Max Factor English Rose is similar, but a bit warmer. A great lipstick too!

  16. Lark

This lipstick wasn’t made for you Christine. It was made for me. Partly cos you’re a yellow and I’m a blue but mostly because I’m almost twenty five years older than you and judge lipsticks very differently now! I have two of these Shine lipsticks and they’ve become the go to. Very forgiving of older skin, the softer colors flatter and they have gloss’s good qualities while still being full on lipstick. Swiping on fresh after lunch is normal anyway.

Shine is lovely for the fresh faced too, but if you’ve hit that wall called lipstick feathering like a Moari chin tattoo this formula is sheer genius! I don’t need pencil with it and It doesn’t betray ones little faults. The more sophisticated colors are part of that. It won’t dupe, partly because of the texture. Very different product.

  17. I actually really like this color, and I don’t usually do cool-toned lip colors. I think this one is very wearable though–it’s pretty and definitely a cool pink but in a subtle, more flattering way.

    pretty cute :D
