The Sultry Season: Guerlain Gracieuse Rouge G Lipstick

Guerlain Gracieuse (05) Rouge G Lipstick ($46.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a softly gold-shimmered shade of darkened beige-brown.  It has full-color coverage, and it applies smoothly, richly, and beautifully in a single layer.  This is a great shade to wear instead of the traditional nude lip–it’s darker and more complex, but it’s still wearable with ease.  Rouge G lipsticks are creamy, lightweight, and wear an average of four hours on me.

Is this the right brown for you? Would you wear it?

The Sultry Season is a series of posts featuring deep, rich shades of brown, berry, plum, and wine lipsticks and lipglosses — just right for autumn — that runs through October 2010.

Gah! I can’t believe I have been reading these posts for this long! We’re already to fall and then all done… :( Do you think you’ll be putting these all in a special section of the site once you get back around to Winter?

    • Christine says:

I can’t believe we’ve almost come full circle myself! I’m like, “REALLY? A YEAR OF LIPSTICK?”

I don’t know whether to reprise and do Scarlet Season – but obviously in a lesser capacity (I don’t know if there are truly another 60-90 shades of red, and I gotta admit, JUST doing reds for 3 months was brutal). I have not decided! Maybe I will do a monthly special on… eyeshadow… or something instead.

  2. Roxanne says:

YAY! I have a feeling I’m gonna like this season… Hoping to see some really dark colors :)

  3. Margot says:

I love the name of the series … The Sultry Season. Makes me so excited for what’s to come yayyyy !!
Not a fan of this colour though, but maybe it’s because beige-y nude-y colours don’t do much for me

  4. Jennifer says:

    too pricey for me!

  5. For fall, I recommend the lipstick Rich Currant from Estée Lauder. It’s kind of like a purple berry brown, somewhere between medium and dark. It’s really soft and easy to apply, I bought it today :D

  6. Keana says:

This is beautiful on u? Do u know of any MAC dupes or could u recommend a pretty shade for my nw43 skin

  7. Lyndsay says:

Love it! Its not over the top, but seems to define just enough and make the lips look even better!

  8. Molly says:

Christine, this shade is beautiful on you!

  9. Grace says:

This is so pretty! I want it now… It looks gorgeous on you!

  10. iliana says:

I might be preempting Christine’s posts but one lipstick I find suitable for fall (well at least for those who have fall in their country, because I don’t ;D) is Rebel by MAC. :)

  11. Erin says:

I’m excited for the Sultry Season series! I’ve loved every single season of the lip series you’ve done. It’d be great if you could update the seasons as you go through the next year, but I think I speak for most if you decided not to do so. An eyeshadow series would be cool! :]

Guerlain (always have to check my spelling of that!) is a little too rich for my blood, though. $25 for a lippie is pretty much my max unless it’s HG material!

  12. Zara says:

Oh, so pricey! Anyone know a good dupe for this?

  13. Leslie Vossmer says:

this is really a sexy little shade

  14. elise says:

IDK, Christine, love Rouge G formulas, but this one looks too muddy–it kinda brings your complexion down (unlike other colors, which really brighten your face up), and since my coloring is similar to yours, I can’t go near this shade :Z

  15. Callen says:

So excited for this series! :D

  16. Jane says:

That is a gorgeous lipstick. I really want to try one of the Guerlain G lipsticks!

  17. Jenn says:

You have got to do another round of lipsticks! I can’t tell you how much my lipstick collection has expanded this past year just from reading your posts!

  18. CeeBee says:

THIS is what I need – I got Guerlinade but it just didn’t work on me sadly (though my mother was delighted with my cast-off!) but this one looks amazing!

  19. baby in a corner says:

i’m so excited for these new posts, all ready for the autumn colours! the summer and scarlet seasons have really opened my eyes to lipstick before that i only had two and mostly wore lipgloss! hoping to find something to suit my pale skin tone that won’t make me look like a true blood extra like some dark colours do! :)

  20. Hilana says:

Nice colour. Seems like you get some good colour pay off too. Very….sultry. :)

  21. Jenniferx33 says:

Ohh God this color is so GORGEOUS!! I was wondering if there’s any color similar to this that doesn’t cost almost 50 bucks maybee o_o
