I always have to have a full lip. I remember not being happy with the look of my lipsticks until I always added lipliner and it is like eyeshadow with no mascara for me:)
I use MAC's red lip tutorial and I always wear lipliners if I'm wearing a lipstick. I use a nude color and usually blank out my lips before hand to give the lipstick a really bright, true finish. Lipliner is pretty necessary. At least, if you want your lipstick to stay in place. It's like wearing primer under foundation. :)
I definitely always use lipliner when wearing dark colors - it's an absolute must with MAC Hang Up Cremesheen - but if I'm just wearing a light color or one of my HG Laura Mercier Stickglosses (they never bleed at all), then I don't consider it really necessary.
Only when I wear lipstick, which is very rarely - and even then it's always a red lipstick so lipliner is ESSENTIAL. I just picked up a lipliner recently that matches my lips perfectly though, so Im thinking of wearing it under nudes.
I own three lip liners....UD's Zero (for my RED pinup lip) and two MAC liners....a neutral and a berry/plum color. I use them more with lipgloss than an actual defined lip with lipstick. Basically, they help keep the color from moving around on me....
No, I don't wear lip liner. I have so many different colored lipsticks that I just don't want to waste the money trying to find a few to match up. So I bought the Benefit D'Finer D'liner and it helps ...I figure since it is clear it will go with anything ;)
My lips are naturally very bright pink so sometimes I use a nude lipliner as a base when I'm wearing certain colors that I want to show up correctly.
Every single day, once I'm stepping out the house. I wear MAC's 80%. It's an awesome combo of brown with a little red. So it works for my dark brown colours, my deep reds, plums, my pinks and my neutrals.
Hi yes i do, I love smashbox lip liner gel which is sheer for use with gloss and sheer lip colour. I also really rate the reverse lip liners that are skin toned rather than the shade of of lip colour. Though even though i am qualified as a make-up artist they simply dont excite me so i tend to buy them cheaply. Also i dont need them yet as i dont have lip lines where colour bleeds yet (give it time) LOL Love the blog Ria x
I only wear a lipliner when doing a bold red lip look. But I just recently purchased a clear lipliner from Loreal last week. I'm gonna be testing it out soon.
If it's really hot and the lipstick is going to melt all over the place with the sweat then I think liner is a great help in holding that off. Where I live (London) the only place this is ever going to happen is on the underground, in the summer, and even then my lipstick and gloss have held out. Now if I lived in Dubai and were on the beach all the time ... :)
Back in the early '90s, when lipliner was all the rage, I used to -- occasionally. Since then, only when needed (it helps a red lippie, but the trick is to apply AFTER the lippie, not before. People think they need to draw themselves a mouth, but liner works best as a way to even out the lipline.)
I think people really underestimate the power of lip liners. No lipliner is like no eye liner. Lip liners really help those with mushy undefined lips like myself.
Liz, this is so funny. You said lip liner is like no eyeliner. I started reading the comments after I wrote mine and I had written it is like wearing eyeshadow with no mascara. I think it gets a bad rap for those that don't know how to apply it, but it definitely defines and comples the look, no matter how natural or dramatic:)
i have very pigmented mushy undefined fat lips! can you (or anyone else here) recommended a good nude/skin color lip liner? i wear gloss/lip balms (never lipstick), but even these make my lips look like a big blob in the middle of my face cuz there's just no definition=/
I never line my lips with it when I wear lipstick. I only own one lip liner, lol! I have a L'oreal one in a color called Reds, so I guess it's supposed to go with many different shades of red. I like to fill in my lips with that and cover it with my Smashbox Lip Enhancing gloss in Starlit or Philosophy's Kiss Me Red.
I could have picked "Yes, but only occasionally," but I felt that "occasionally" implies that I wear it more often than I do. I only wear it with reds. I've only ever had bleeding that I noticed when wearing reds. If I notice bleeding with other colors, I might go get that clear wax lip liner.
The only lipliner I wear is the clear Urban Decay one and I find it doesn't do much at all..I'm really interested in trying out a real lipliner though. Any suggestions for an everyday pinky color? :)
I think lip liner gets a really bad rep- especially with the reference to the type of application where it is literally a line around your lips. I own a few lipliners but always use it more as a base before lipstick.
