Do you use fixing sprays/mists? (e.g. MAC Fix+) What do you like about them?
Very rarely. I just can’t get passed that they’re just fancy water…

I've been using MUFE mist & fix as a mixing medium for my shimmer shadows and my glitter/diamond powders for my eyes. Just a couple of days ago I began to use it on over my mineral powders and WOW what a difference. Not only did it look a LOT less chalky it also lasted a lot longer. I've heard people call these fixing sprays 'glorified water' but I've never seen water help keep my make up on longer so I think I'm sold on the fixing sprays. However, MUFE's is pretty pricey for a full bottle so I think I'm going to try out mac's fix + next.
I use a PH normalizer before applying makeup and a setting spray on my clients and they have all complimented the staying power of their make up. I know that price may be an issue with some sprays, but if they are not for you.... they are not for you. For others like myself, I have dry and combo skin so its a boost to my makeup routine to use them :) I currently use: Skintelligence PH Normalizer and Motives 10 years younger setting spray.
I do Fix + is way more than "fancy water" for my dry skin it hydrates my face all day and sets my makeup. I definitely see a huge difference in that than the Evian facial spray and water.
At first I didn't think much of it either, but when I saw MAC Fix + staring at me at my local store, I decided to give it a try. What the heck, it's 'only' 16 euros. And I find myself using it everyday. I use it to simply freshen my skin up, to 'prep' my skin before applying foundation, for making my finished look a little less powdery, for damping my brush/sponge before applying my foundation, and for making my eyeshadows a little damp so the color just pops out. It just gives me a nice finish and I looooove how it smells!
No. Though I would probably be tempted to get Eau thermale de Avene... I tried it a few times and its really refreshing, cooling and moisturising. I can't help but feel I'd be addicted to it especially during warmer months or when I have dry skin.
I don't use them, but I don't wear makeup very often either. (Also, I think that you meant to type "past" and not "passed". Sorry, that's just the picky English major in me coming out!)
Glorified water? HAH! I don't use Fix+, but I do use Urban Decay's All Nighter setting spray and it really DOES work. No matter what primer I use, if I do not use a setting spray my make-up will be sliding all over my face 4 or 5 hours into wearing it. With the setting spray, it doesn't look PERFECT, but it certainly looks a lot better than it would without it. All of Skindinavia's sprays are actually really good. And if you've never used one, you're way too quick to judge. I am a make-up artist and I swear by it. There is no point in spending so much time and money on make-up if you don't lock it on for the duration.
Totally agree with you! I've tried all of them and now I just have water in a little spray bottle. Same thing. If it makes you feel better you can write "MAC" on the bottle. ;)
I love Jane Iredale Pommist. I fly a lot and this really does help my skin feel less dry after a flight. Plus there are moisturizing ingredients and a delicious smell. I use it also instead of Fix Plus and similar products to give e/s a wet look.
I bought the Model in a Bottle at IMATS. I got the sensitive skin formula and I love it! It sets my makeup in the early morning when I go to work at Starbucks...and I still look great when I get off work at noon ;).
I use model in a bottle and honestly i can say it works wonders. My makeup didnt budge at all through the hottest day of the year when i was sweating like a pig at school
i adore my fix+ plus, especially the rose one, it smells just like lychee's to me. I spray it on my foundation brush when applying foundation, and then i will spray it on my powder brush and use it with an msf natural. its the reason why my makeup stays on longer and is less powdery
I use MAC’s fix+ it definately makes a difference, it has kept my makeup in place during this hot weather and I use it on clients and it gives then a light dew, healthy looking finish
Yes. I use the Avene's spray. Besides fixing makeup, I also use it to cool myself down in my hot and humid country. Also, I find that I get less oily after spraying. I only want to spray water as I'm afraid I would get weird chemical stuff into my eyes, thus Avene is fine for me.
I did, I used to use Fix + but never saw any difference in it. I probably wouldn't buy it again but for now Ill use up the fix plus to dampen eyeshadow brushes to get a different eyeshadow look.
Fix +, Model in a Bottle, UD All Nighter....Yep, have them all! Use at least one of those everyday! I love fancy water. ;-)
Yes I love Mac's Fix + spray! I love how i can pack and cake on my foundation as much as I want and all I need is a couple sprays from Fix + to fix it. It just melts all the powder left on my skin and makes it look natural without looking like a bag of flour.
I picked up Model In A Bottle at IMATS but I have to admit that I'm not really in love with it...wish I'd opted for the Sensitive Skin formula because I find the scent to be overwhelming and as a result, rarely reach for it.
I've been using Fix+ under my Studio Moisture Tint lately, it does help the product go on easier and more evenly. I can definitely feel the difference between Fix+ and water, much tackier when it dries, and at least it smells nice : )
I use Urban Decay's finishing spray but I'm still not sure how I'm feeling about it. I like Fix+ for foiling eyeshadows, thinning out my foundation and using underneath moisturiser if my skin is dry and flakey.
I never use fixing sprays, though I am curious about them. Since I've fallen in love with liquid foundations and use light setting powder, I'm not as concerned about having a powdery look anymore.
I've only ever used Mac's Fix+. I bought it a while ago and I still have like half the bottle left. I have mixed feelings on it. Maybe because I've used it during the ridiculously hot summer months where my makeup tends to melt off anyway. So until I use it during the cold winter months to prevent my makeup from looking cakey..I can't quite say whether I'm for it or against it.
Yes ..I use fix+ for my foundation and eyeshadows (pigments) . I have very dry skin and I find that it helps blend my foundation and keep my face looking fresh all day .
There's a video by enKore on Youtube in which he explains the difference between a refreshing spray (fancy water) vs. setting spray (such as Fix+) vs. a fixing spray (he demo'd a kryolan one). He placed pigment on a mixing palette, then sprayed each of these substances to demo the effect. They are not the same; the refreshing spray (fancy water) has no affect on the pigment, the Fix+ actually seems to blend with/bond with the pigment, and the Kryolan spray sprayed over the Fix+ essentially acts like a shellac, making the makeup literally budge-proof. (Personally, I can't imagine why a you'd need to shellac your face in everyday life. Seems scary.) Worth watching just to see how these sprays interact with makeup, and decide for yourself if you'd like that to happen on your face.
Thanks - I will check the video out! I've used all three on my face, and other than Kryolan's crazy spray, nothing does anything for me but feel like water. (e.g. Fix+, UD's sprays).
I am curious but whenever I go to the mall I totally forget about it. I am also unsure how much difference it will actually make.
I have to thanks to my oily skin. If I don't my makeup's liable to slide all over the place in a few hours. Plus I use it to get rid of the powdery look. Might just be fancy water but it helps with my oiliness, and I need all the help I can get!
I started using UD's All Nighter setting spray this summer. I had to go to my boys' baseball games after work and didn't have time to remove makeup. BUT i wanted to be sure to not appear to be melting...lol! It worked well. But, now that baseball is over, not so much.
I like my fix+, it takes away the powdery look of my makeup and seems to smooth it. For late nights or long days I use Model in a Bottle.
I use them but more as a part of skincare than makeup fixing. I don't wear foundation...but I like to spray mark Mist Opportunity or MAC Fix+ on my face after toner/before moisturizer just to give my face extra hydration. And I spray during the day when it's super hot out just as a cool down. I can't wait to try the Evian one next.
I cant fathom paying $18 for water.....but I have a can of the Evian Brumissateur that I use to take away the cakiness on my face :) But the Evian is far less expensive than mac fix + !!!!
I use it as a primer for my makeup (especially before I use a mineral or powder foundation). It seems to work really well, but maybe I should swap it out with water sometime and see if I notice!
I use fix+. Only because my studio tech gets dry and i spray a little fix+ to make it creamy again. BTW have you been to the Nordies annual beauty day? Here in Texas its going to be in October and I wanted a little insight on how its going to be. Please tell me you go every year!! :)
I use Fix+ a lot in the summer, if I'm all sweaty I'll spray it all over then blot my face and it makes my makeup look a lot better. I also tend to overdo loose powder so I'll spray some on again to lighten the look. It probably is just a scam of fancy water, I am pretty sure regular water in a fine mist would do the same thing.
i like MAC Fix+ rose. Smells nice and seems to work. I've never used the regular MAC Fix+. Maybe it's just normal water LOL. Too bad MAC Fix+ rose is LE. :(
you can usually find the Rose one in CCOs. At least they always have it at the one in Wrentham, MA :)
