I really like seche vite top coat – looks like a nice nail polish.

I normally only use a base coat so the nail polish has no chance of staining my nails. I also change my nail color 3+ times a week so the top coat really has no use, i will use a top coat if i want them to look shinier though.

Both! Definitely learned my lesson after a polish stained my nails badly.

  4. I do the same thing on my toes and fingers – base coat only (Essie First Base, I raved about it as the most recent post on my blog; short summary is that it’s AWESOME). I have a big problem with nail polish peeling, and Essie First Base helps a lot, but every top coat I’ve tried increases the peeling problem.

I always use a base coat to prevent staining. When I know I’ll be wearing open-toed shoes, I’ll sometimes put on top coat.

Base coats are probably one of the beauty items I neglect often. I have just recently been better about using one for my finger nails, but toes still just get polish and top coat. I always use a top coat since it smoothes out the polish, adds shine, and helps polish dry faster. I don’t really worry about my toe nail polish as much since no one’s that close to my feet, lol. Pretty much, the only time there is a base coat on them is if it’s done professionally!

I use a base coat always….I only us a top coat if I am not in a hurry :)

I used to use a base coat for my toes, but then I just ran out of it and have not had the time to buy more. I don’t usually do top coat for toes because it lasts so long anyways 😛

I use both – Essie Protein Base Coat and Seche Vite Top coat and my toe NP is beautiful for 1-2 weeks and no staining, too! 😉

  10. I use base and top coat when I am getting a pedicure. But when I do my own I just use a top coat. It just amazes me when I do my own pedicure or get it professionally done, the polish will stay on for a few weeks and still look like I just got them done lol

Both. Until 2 years ago I always neglected my nails, splashing some colour on them if I wanted to, and they always looked horrible.
But I have decided to religiously take care of them so base and topcoat are now used everytime.

It depends…I always use a top coat but in terms of base coats, I won’t use them with glittery or shimmer polishes, no, but I’ll use them on metallic or frost finishes.

Has anyone tried those 2 in 1 base coats/top coats? Thoughts?

Both ofc! CND Sticky base coat and Seche Vite top coat.

I will always use a top coat to prevent chipping. I don’t have the time forthe base coat.

  16. Brittany

Yes i use a base and top coat.

  17. Faye

Of course! What’s the point in spending all the time it takes to do your nails without ensuring they’ll last chip-free with a base and top?

  18. Don’t wear polish on toes, but I don’t use base or top coats on my fingers – I change colours each day, so it’s just an added step. I did use a topcoat (I had gotten free!) with a neon the other day, because it looked a bit blah otherwise. It is very rare to have a polish which doesn’t have tip wear after one day when it’s polish only, however.
