Dior Sailor Vernis
Dior Sailor Vernis

Dior Sailor Vernis ($30.00 for 0.33 fl. oz.) is a rich, cobalt blue with a jelly-cream finish. MAC Breezy Blue (LE, $16.00) is darker. MAC Blue Gaze (LE, $16.00) is darker. Illamasqua Force (P, $17.00) is slightly darker. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Pond (P, $10.00) is a smidgen more muted. China Glaze Ride the Waves (LE, $7.50) is lighter. China Glaze Manhunt (LE, $7.50) is darker. Deborah Lippmann I Know What Boys Like (LE, $19.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

It’s one of three shades available in the Saks-exclusive Voyage Transatlantique collection, and with my luck, it just sold out online. You may be able to track it down in store if you happen to be near a Saks (or know of one to call–I’m sure they’ll ship it to you as well). There are two other shades–Captain and Yacht–but I didn’t purchase either, so I won’t have any insight into them. Each shade is paired with nail stickers that can be applied to the nail. Sailor applied beautifully with mostly opaque color coverage (just enough translucency so that it had that squishy, jelly look) in two coats. I didn’t have any issues with the consistency, as the polish flowed evenly and smoothly across the surface of the nail without bubbling, streaking, or pooling along the edges. It dried down at an average speed but finished with a glossy shine. I typically get a week of wear out of Dior’s formula with no chipping, just minor tip wear.

  1. It’s pretty..but I just can’t get myself to spend $30 for finger nail polish yet..

  2. Brazilian brand Colorama “Quadrado azul” and Beauty UK (the blue that comes in the “Wild child” collection) would make good dupes as well :)

  3. Manon Dly

It looks really similar to the YSL nail polish in “Bleu majorelle”, do you have it to be sure that it’s a dupe ?

  4. Whitney

I really wanted this and it is super pretty but it looks a lot like Sally Hansen Pacific Blue which I adore. Oh well :)

  5. Hi, I wanted to tell you that Sally Hansen’s Pacific Blue could also be a cheaper alternative to this.

  6. Definitely could be a dupe for pacific blue by sally hansen. If you do 2 coats of PB, you get this gorgeous opaque blue that’s perfect for any season, really. 😀

  7. This color is AMAZING!

  8. Lori

Hi Christine! I’m surprised no one has mentioned the eerie similarity this color has to Essie’s “Butler Please”…. I don’t own either shade myself, but I always want to get it in the store for its gorgeous blue color :)

  9. Definitely can’t justify $30 for a nail polish, but it is pretty! It looks similar to Sally Hanson’s Pacific Blue, just the Dior is glossier.

  10. ahoy matey! This is gorgeous..and blue is my defacto nail colour and dior sticks to my nails extremely well.

  11. Melissa

Reminds me of nail’s inc. Baker Street, my favorite blue polish.

  12. Steph

Another great dupe for this would be nails inc ‘baker street’ but i dont think you can get nails inc in the US :)

  13. Such a vibrant, pretty blue! (WHAT ABOUT SOME VIBRANT, EASY TO APPLY BLUE EYESHADOWS, DIOR, HMMMM?) sorry, had a bit of an attack there again 😉

The nail stickers are a cute idea, but it would be nicer if they didn’t all say ‘CD’ on them. I always feel like I’m being exploited for free advertising when that happens, LOL.

Hi lovely colour!! What happened to the polish lip is it smashed??

  15. Kate

I agree with Lori, quite possibly a dupe of Essie’s “butler please” which is a very good thing because this is my FAVORITE polish color (I’ve had 2 bottles of bulter!) but spending that much on a polish is hard for me!

I’d also propose the indie Indigo Bananas’ “Klein Trink Wasser” although I think it is closer to OCC’s Pond.

  16. Claire

Hi. I was wondering what will happen if you use that sticker.

    • It creates two white lines :) I was going to try it when my nails were a bit longer, but since it already sold out online, I ran out of time!

  17. This is an awesume blue.. loved the oodles of gloss and shine in the finish! :)

  18. I love a jelly-creme finish! I’m not sure this is my color but man it looks great with slightly darker skin!

  19. This is just not fair to release such shades exclusive! LoL.

Wow, what a vibrant blue! Is this set from their new ‘gel’-like formula? I wonder if they are replacing the entire line with new formula or if the new formula will be separate?

    Did the lid break?
