Dior Lame Gold (424) Dior Addict Ultra Gloss
Dior Lame Gold (424) Dior Addict Ultra Gloss

For Fans of Sheer, Lightly-Shimmered Gloss

Dior Lame Gold (424) Dior Addict Ultra Gloss ($24.00 for 0.21 oz.) is a warm wash of goldenrod with gold and copper shimmer and sparkle. It is mostly a clear gloss base with a dose of shimmer. Le Metier de Beaute orange Juiced is somewhat similar but has less sparkle. MAC Rising Sun has more color in its base.

The formula is described as “delivering a sheer wash of catwalk color” while being hydrating and highly reflective.  It’s a new and limited shade for the holidays, and I suspect this shade is best for layering over red and berry-hued lipsticks to add a little shimmer and warmth.  It’s a wash of color/shimmer, and the finish is extremely glossy and shiny.  Lame Gold wore for three hours, which was surprising, because of the sheerness.

It comes with a brush-type applicator in a clear, square tube.  The consistency is thick without being gloppy, heavy, or sticky.  It has an almost gel-like, cushion-y feel on the lips.  It was lightly moisturizing when I wore it back-to-back for six hours.  After two hours, I did notice a very slight grit from the glitter/sparkle, but it wasn’t overly noticeable.

You have to love the formula and be willing to pay for that for a sheer gloss, because sheer glosses, while they have their place and are great for layering, are easier to dupe at all price points.

How would you compare this to Bobbi Brown Canary? Is it similar at all?

Oh, it’s all about the packaging .. who wouldn’t want to whip out that lovely gloss out from their purse ;-)

It’s like a statement piece that says “I’ve got style” .. For me? Well, I’ll just hope it ends up on some makeup clearance site .. lol.

  3. This paired with the Bobbi Brown High Shimmer which was also reviewed this week are good examples of how two entirely different looking glosses in their respective tubes can look exactly the same once applied on the lips. This is why I rarely purchase high end lipgloss.

    • I don’t think that has anything to do with high-end lipgloss – it’s just the type of formula. I’d say there are as many sheer glosses in high-end as there are at the drugstore, but it’s what sells and what a lot of people seem to want! You can pretty much say the same thing for all products, since you can get a great eyeshadow (or mascara, eyeliner, blush, etc.) for $2 or $40!

      • You are right. I actually wasn’t saying it was exclusive to high-end.. just that it is my personal justification for not purchasing expensive sheer glosses.

I’m with Wendy-I feel I can (and have) gotten similar effect with DS glosses. When it comes to these shades, I layer them anyway, so I don’t care too much about the way it “feels”.

For me, mascara is a bit different, as I feel the wand can make a huge difference, though actual formula may only differ slightly. That said, I use DS mascara, as well (unless it’s a free sample).

        • Haha – I am the opposite – I am more sensitive to the feel of gloss, especially if I can feel the grit of the shimmer/sparkle!

If I’m wearing a gloss by itself, then I’m a bit sensitive; with sparkly shades, I almost always layer over a lipstick, so I guess the lipstick forms a barrier so I don’t feel the gloss very much, and for me (personally) I don’t think I’d ever spring for HE on a gloss that was so common. Besides, gloss doesn’t stay on me for more than about an hour by itself, so it’s never on long enough to be uncomfortable!

  4. It looks very similar to that Bobbi Brown gloss that you reviewed the other day. Pretty but I’ll pass :/

I’ve been looking for a gold gloss or lipstick to go over reds for the holiday season. Do you have a favorite gloss/lipstick for layering with reds?

I am loving how gorgeous this looks in the tube (I’m pretty obsessed with gold) but the effect on is kinda lacking, too bad cause I am a sucker for packaging and a pretty product but I’m gonna prolly pass :(
