Dior Five Golds Eyeshadow Quint
Dior Five Golds Eyeshadow Quint

Metallics Done Right!

Dior Five Golds Eyeshadow Quint ($58.00 for 0.21 oz.) is one of two new and limited edition holiday quints.  As indicated, it includes five shades of eyeshadow, and this is a palette with a rather metallic feel and look.  I purchased this as part of my Sephora Friends & Family haul!

It has a similar theme as MAC’s Rockers & Reelers Eyeshadow Palette, because both have a lot of metallic-like finishes, but the colors themselves are a bit different. Dior’s metallic quint is closer to neutral, while MAC’s is on the warmer side.

Five Golds includes a dark charcoal gray with a soft silver sparkle; subdued copper-gold with a metallic finish; semi-sheer icy white-gold with a bright shimmer-shine; chocolate bronze with a metallic finish; and a bright, light silver with a high metallic shine. Every shade had rich pigmentation except the lightest white-gold shade, which was on the sheer side, and it also had more of a glittery feel compared to the smoother texture of the other four shades. It looks a lot yellower in the pan than when used, though. The other four shades were true-to-pan in terms of color.

This is probably one of my favorite Dior quints in terms of quality; the shades are smooth, soft without being powdery, and really rich in color. Dior’s eyeshadow quints are always a better value than their singles or duos, though it is still more expensive than Chanel’s eyeshadow quads (but less than Guerlain’s!). Even though the shades are dupeable by other brands, the finish and texture really hit home.

FYI, Sephora lists this as “001” while the back of it does list the name as Five Golds alongside the 001 number.

Looks pretty! Can you use all of these shadows together? Because that’s what I worry about when buying a palette, that you only use a few because they don’t a match together and I just want a palette so I can just use the palette for eyeshadows.

  2. Great minds think alike! I purchased this at the Sephora FF sale too and love it as well. I find the shades to be very multi-dimensional and glowy.

  3. Melissa

I, for one, am confused by the name. Five golds would make so much more sense if, I dunno, all the shadows inside were variations of gold. 😐

  4. BethM

Very pretty. But I don’t use Dior, and I bet I already have dupes for all 5 of those colors in assorted Urban Decay palettes. :)

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU for reviewing this palette!!! I’ve been unsure of this one since first seeing it because I find the texture of the regular formula quints to be a bit chalky (for the price). I have almost all of the iridescent quints, they are so silky. I swatched it at Sephora and the formula actually seems to have improved. It’s the last day of the V.I.B. sale and I’m gonna get this right now!

  6. Emma

pretty but I wouldn’t use the silver or warm brown and I have a bazillion black shadows :(

and I hate how they insist on putting sponge tip applicators in these things.

  7. Kelly

very versatile and wearable. however, i don’t think the colors are all that unique. easily dupe-able, imo.

  8. This is a beautiful palette…Amongst all the palette released or famous, I ended up buying the Bobbi Brown warm eyes one.
UD Naked is always Out of Stock. Too Faced has a Neutral one, which is bulky. Estee Lauder’s Holiday palette is pretty too!

  9. Julia

you should test out the “incognito” shade. I heard it was beautiful neutrals that are pigmented and I want to see what your opinion will be on it. Thanks for being an awesome beauty guru!

    • Hey Julia,

I’m only reviewing this quint from Dior’s holiday collection at this time, sorry!

    • CeeBee

I’ve got Incognito – it’s nice enough and is very neutral but I personally don’t think there is enough depth in the colour variation, they’re all very light matte shades (off white, pale yellow, beige, peach, brown) and I’d prefer to see either more graduated intensity in depth or a different finish on a couple of the colours.
      Just my opinion though…

  10. anneee

can you use the silver eyeshadow as a highlighter with the gold, or is that very ugly.?

  11. CeeBee

Pretty, but as it’s been said, easily dupeable shades… I also giggle at how it is called Five Golds… except for the silver. And the charcoal.
The brown bronze shade is really beautiful though! I wish they’d re-release the LE The Golds (iridescent) quint from yeah before last (or the year before that) THAT was utterly gorgeous and I regret not buying it!

  12. so lovely, what a lovely palette to have.

  13. Kristie

This was my first Dior quint and I’m soooo~ happy with it! It’s really gorgeous. I was able to pick it up during Sephora’s F&F sale :)

  14. That is a very good selection for a pallette!
Neutral metallics are always good to have.

  15. Dawn

This is my favorite holiday palette of all time I think! I got it a couple of weeks ago and have been having so much fun playing with the colors

  16. Gloria

OMG there so beautiful. The coppery one looks like Mac Bronze and the chocolate bronze looks like Mac Tempting, am I right? I feel i have seen these shades before

  17. Shanna

    This is GORGEOUS!

Is it just me, or does that charcoal color have some tealish colored glitter in it as well as silver?

  18. Vale

Never again a Dior e/s. I’d bought 2, not with “light” colour. They are Twilight (grey and blue) and Night Butterfly (grey and dark violet). And they simply don’t show on my lids. Wonderful on my hands and my fingers, total void on my lids.
Never again. For that price, I want the colours to show on my lids as if they have been painted!!!

  19. Love this palette. I find Dior’s description of shades somewhat bizarre but on par with the overall palette. Dior describes them as: Silver Gold, White Gold, Black Gold, Bronze Gold, and Brown Gold. Puzzling Silver Gold, white gold and black gold are my faves. Also, this quad has a new formulation that allows metallic colors to apply and blend like butter, with minimal fallout.

  20. Tia Imperato

Christine, I love this quad, can you please do a tutorial using it? You do a great job with your beauty blog, my makeup bible!

  21. This is a gorgeous quint, I considered buying this at the Sephora VIP sale, too. But after I swatched all the colors, I realized I had dupes of these colors in my collection- mostly from MAC. I would say this is a great buy if you don’t already own similar eyeshadows… but I think this would have been a waste for me.

  22. M. Smith

How does this quint compare to D&G’s gold holiday 2009 quad? Could you post swatches of both? Thanks.

  23. M. Smith

Follow up to previous post, how does this quint compare to Chanel’s limited edition gold quad from 2010 also (I believe).
