Dior Diorling Diorific Lipstick
Dior Diorling Diorific Lipstick

A Holiday Red That Wears and Wears

Dior Diorling (037) Diorific Lipstick ($36.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a vibrant cherry red with subtle blue undertones and finished with a natural sheen. MAC Charmed, I’m Sure is a bit lighter, almost pink-tinged in comparison. Guerlain Luxure is less vibrant. Edward Bess Midnight Bloom is brighter. MAC Red Racer is lighter. MAC Runaway Red is similar. Guerlain Vega is a bit less red. Chanel Dragon is deeper and has shimmer. Guerlain Garconne is similar in color.

It’s full formula name is “Rouge Haute Couleur Longue Tenue” or “Long-Wearing True Color Lipstick.”  Both are very true; this is a highly pigmented, long-wearing lipstick that feels as good as it looks.  Diorling wore for seven hours on me with residual staining getting me to eight hours without feeling compelled to reapply.  It will last through drinking and a light meal as well.  It’s lightly moisturizing, so my lips didn’t feel parched after I removed it.  The color itself was fully opaque and very little product was needed to achieve full color coverage.  It had a creamy, glide-on consistency that didn’t tug or pull at lips and deposited color evenly.  Diorling is one of four shades for the holidays and is packaged in limited edition, vintage gold packaging.

A+
Great formula: extremely pigmented, creamy enough to glide on but not to bleed or feather, long-wearing, and comfortable to wear.

Now THAT is a great holiday red! Beautiful!

  2. Allie

Do you think Dior could fit anymore variations of the word “Dior” into that name?

I just ordered mine last night from Nordstrom. Can’t wait to get them!!

  4. Your earrings are amazing!

  5. Your photographs make me want this lipstick so badly! It look beautiful on you and when the tube is laid horizontally like that, it looks like a pretty little bow! Other photos of this product have looked a little, erm, phallic… as my fiancé helpfully commented over my shoulder. Womp womp! I will definitely go check this out in person!

  6. I bought “Marilyn”. I almost bought this color, but Marilyn had a little bit more blue to it. And besides, it is my way of buying “marilyn” without getting into the MAC frenzy.

Sorry… but that name is ridiculous! I actually find the name and packaging kind of off putting. All of that aside, I’ve already bought 3 reds for this season! So I’ve got to put my shopping on ice for a while. I’m constantly window shopping, .. not helping my problem, haha.

This is a lovely colour. It’s nice to see it shine without being so shimmery!

The colour may be limited edition, but are you sure the packging is? Here in the UK at least, we have had this line (Diorific) and packaging since at least 2009 (when I got mine) although since it’s been so long since any new colours were added to the line and with the focus being on all these other new lines of lipstick being introduced, I thought that it was maybe quietly being discontinued. So your comment had me wondering if you didn’t have this line in the US.

This one really is an underrated formula and I don’t think many people know about it! It always stays on throughout parties and dinners, better than any others I have. Also, it is never, ever drying. I don’t think I even knew lipsticks could be drying until I tried Rouge Cocos and Rouge Allure Velvets (although I don’t react quite as badly as you do to them). Rouge Allures are good though, just don’t beat this one’s staying power!

  9. Looks fab on you, Christine as does the rest of your look!

Will you be reviewing the other shades in this collection? I want to get one but am having a hard time deciding which shade would be best for me!

  11. Cute packaging. Reminds me of high society women of the 60s. Lovely, classic shade and that wear time is seriously impressive (especially with the non-dry finish it has)

How does this compare to the nail polish? Could you show them side by side a la mac fashion sets?

will you be reviewing the other lipsticks in this collection?

That’s a great red, and it sounds like a good formula too. I might have to put this on my gift list :)

I love the packaging but I’m just not confident enough to wear bright red lipstick all the time, so I can’t justify having more than one or two, and I already have Guerlain Garconne. I saw swatches of these on Messy Wands’ blog and thought maybe the Lady lipstick would work if I sheered it out, so I’m still considering that, though.

  16. Beautiful colour, I just think the packaging is rather odd. Sounds like a great formula though.

  17. Katie

Color is nice, packaging is not my taste! Although I love the packaging they chose for the nail lacquers.

  18. That is a lovely, elegant red with a really nice shine to it–I like it on you a lot!

  19. Avatar of Amy xamyx

Beautiful shade, especially for those with warm skin tones.

  20. Avatar of Sasha Sasha

I think the packaging but Garconne doesn’t look good on me so this probably wouldn’t either.

I saw this on the Muse’s blog, and I’ve been lusting over it ever since. Interestingly, the red seems to pull much warmer against your skin tone, while it looked cooler against hers. I’m going to try to stick to my Project Pan guns and pass it up, but it’s going to be hard. I’m such a sucker for a beautiful red. :P

I just found out that there are two versions of Diorling, cherry red and golden pink. I love them both, but my local shop carries only the pink one. I may get it and go pick some of the red version dupe. Nice swatch as always ! <3
