This will be my 2nd time passing up this deal. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME??? *bows head and covers eyes*

I love TheBalm eyeshadows but I have so many of the ones in those palettes that it would be a bit pointless for me to take advantage of this offer, even though it’s quite amazing.  Now, if only they’d make Insane Jane available on its own, life (well, as it relates to eyeshadows from TheBalm, at least) would be perfect.

Is it worth it? I missed the deal last time.

I got this deal last time and can’t say I love it.  None of the colors are matte.  They are super powdery in my opinion.  Cheap but quite a disappointment.

As a Canadian who lives within an hour driving distance of the US border, I was extremely disappointed to see that if I were to take advantage of this deal I’d have to pay the international flat shipping fee of $40. Not impressed, theBalm.

    • @Hayley I know I’ve spoken to Marissa about this previously, and she’s said they had to increase international shipping fees because they were losing money on shipping before. I don’t know what volume of business they do or if they get any discounts through USPS – I know that if I ship anything with tracking outside of the U.S., I’m looking at $20-40 in shipping fees.  I shipped a $14 lipstick and paid $25 to ship it, which is why I usually have prizes valued at $50+ so at least it’s worth more than shipping. I shipped ~5 lbs international and paid $50 :(  I think theBalm does free shipping for international orders over a certain purchase price, but I’m not 100% sure if that’s still the case or what that purchase level is.

Christine-Temptalia Thanks for your response Christine! I understand that it’s expensive to ship outside the U.S., but online shipping tends to vary wildly on different sites. I made a $60 purchase from Sigma the other week and it only cost me $7 to ship it here, tracking and all. Some sites like Modcloth are offering a new shipping option without tracking for extremely cheap – I paid only three dollars for shipping to Canada the other day. It’s just frustrating to be grouped into the category of “International” when if they offered this deal in a store, it would be cheaper for me to drive over the border and get it. It would be nowhere near as expensive to ship it to me as it would be to ship it to Australia or Europe – yet they would pay the exact same shipping rate for this site.

          I’m with you Haley
I know I’m late in the conversation but just want to add my two sense.
What the “The Balm” is charging for shipping to internationally consumers especially Canada whom is right at their backdoor is disgusting and outrageous and they should be ashamed of themselves.. just like you mentioned other merchants are able to provide affordable shipping charges, I’m sure they can do the same. I’ve seen the product line here locally in Montreal with slightly a little higher price than in the US. I would bet my last dollar that if vendors where charged to insane shipping cost they would be passing it on to the consumers and the price of the product would be double if not more.
Now, I would bet my last penny that this is just their way of saying that they do not want to deal with individual international consumers in which case just don’t offer it internationally. It’s either that or they just don’t know how to do business international or just business altogether.
I’ve ranted long enough but it just makes me mad when companies to that.. but what goes round, come around. So, my last words will be to the balm.. “SHAME, SHAME, SHAME ON YOU”

Christine-Temptalia the certain purchase price is 100 $, and they still do ;). I wished i could buy the offer and things about 100 $ for free shipping, so it would still be a great deal for me. But they only accept kreditcards and no paypal. :/ A lot auf germans, me too, don´t have such a card. We  use normal bank cards, or paypal. :/ very sadly

        • Ankatrinka

lilly04 I´m german, too. Why don´t you just get a credit card? It´s not that difficult. I´m just a student and have one. I don´t use it on every corner, but for ordering in the USA to get the balm or benefit. Especially when you reach free shipping and think of that everything is much more expensive here.

        • lilly04

@Ankatrinka was für eine hast du denn? Super wäre das ja schon, aber ich wüsste gar nicht wie man als Normalsterblicher an so eine Karte kommt. Ich kenne auch niemanden der eine hätte.

Christine-Temptalia I just bought this deal and as they ship for free for order over $100 to Canada I bought the Mary-Lou Manizer that I wanted for ever plus a tinted moisturizer and a cleanser that I would have to buy later anyway…

  6. brittersrae

I would have loved to take advantage of this, if they hadn’t hiked the shipping to the exact same price as the palettes. I can order from Illamasqua in the UK for a quarter of the price of theBalm’s shipping. And it’s only to Canada! Sadface.

  7. I think it is worth the deal for all three at this price.  I bought #3 at Sephora.  I bought #1 and #2 at T.J. Max for about 13.00 each and several of them at T.J. Max and then gave them away as gifts.  So 13.00 per a palette is about a good price.  I only own #3 since I gave away the other ones.  And I am happy with it.  It may not be luxxe looking like Urban Decay in terms of packaging, but the product is pigmented.    I take some of the colors and mix and match with my other brands.  Seriously, as MAC keeps increasing the prices each year without hesitation, getting 27 colors for 40.00 is so worth it compare to paying 45.00 plus and only getting 3 MAC colors.
Shipping cost may be high, but has nothing to do with the Balm….  If the Balm didnt offer selling it internationally, then people will complain about not having it available to international customers.  Sometimes, people just have a bone to complain about.

I can’t get past the Balm’s cheesy logo and packaging.

  9. Gina

I took advantage of this last time, and I’m pretty happy with what I got. The colors are pretty muted overall, but they pair really nicely together–it’s not very often that you get a palette, and immediately spot like 3 different color combinations you want to try. All the shadows are really smooth and pigmented, too.

  10. Kafka

I got the 3-for-1 deal last time and I ended up returning the whole lot. It was the first time I’ve returned makeup in years and years! I thought the colours were incredibly muted, sheer and lacking in pigmentation. Powdery, too. I tried *every* single type of brush I owned, as well as my fingers, wet as well as dry, and nada. IMO, they were muted, muted, muted! From the very onset, no less. Really nothing like the intensity of the swatches I saw. I’m sure it’s just me and I’m some sort of incompetent freak but I had to return the lot as I knew I’d never use them. It’s one thing to have one or even three sheer eyeshadows like that but to have TWENTY SEVEN?! No way.

  11. youcancallmebee

I did this sale a while back and am so happy with it!

  12. f0rtunefaded

i love those palettes i had the first one and ruined it but now i have the 3rd one that i got from marshalls

  13. findingpablo

Thank you for letting us know! I own Vol. 1; these will make for some wonderful Christmas presents!

  14. I’ve never tried anything from theBalm and I’ve never really had the desire to…no idea why. Thanks for the head’s up anyway, Christine.

  15. PattyYaple

I am a palette junkie, I have urban decay, MAC, Smashbox, Bare Minerals, Two faced, Lancome , you name it… and I always keep going back to TheBalm palettes. They are super pigmented, velvety, and the color lasts day long. Sometimes I look at my pictures and I can see a huge difference when I use my theBalm eyeshadows and blushes, they always look so pretty and pigmented. i just gave the Shady Lady 3 palette to a friend and she absolutely LOVED IT! If I didn’t have so many palettes, I would definitely would take advantage of the deal.

  16. YUUUUP

I already have the Vol 2 and 3 so this wouldnt be much of a deal for me. I have TONS of TheBalm and LOVE this brand (especially their blushes, luminizers, shadows). I used to get them at Sephora but when they stopped carrying the brand in store I bought them from places like TJMaxx and Marshalls for a fraction of what Sephora sold them as.

  17. blueraccoon

I bought these last time, and then had to rebuy a palette due to the husband stepping on it and breaking the mirror. Still glad I did :)

  18. ingerasata

This time I actually ordered the trio. I’ve been wanting vol 3 for a while so I couldn’t pass up this deal. I love TheBalm!

  19. Jennifer

I have the first palette and I really like it, so I decided to purchase all three to stock up or birthday presents; I love theBalm eyeshadows

  20. adaw23

I wish the International Shipping wasn’t so expensive.
