Cult Nails Charming Nail Lacquer
Cult Nails Charming Nail Lacquer

Cult Nails Charming Nail Lacquer ($10.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is a smoky lilac with subtle pink undertones and a very fine iridescent fuchsia-purple shimmer. NARS Pokerface is pinker. Illamasqua Faux Pas is darker, but has a similar smoky/muted quality. Zoya Lotus has a lot of red in it.  I couldn’t think of a close dupe for this shade.

I had trouble with the application of this one. Even though the consistency doesn’t feel thick, it’s not super thin–it has a jelly-like consistency to me, it had a tendency to pull to the sides when I was applying it, which left the middle of the nail sheerer than the rest. With really bright light (like flash), you can see some brush strokes, though they weren’t apparent under regular lighting (like my office). It’s a sheer polish, which is what it is described as, so I was expecting that. It’s sheer but buildable – I did two coats of polish in the swatches, and there’s visible nail line but you could get away with three coats for mostly opaque color. The drying time was good, though, faster than the average formula.  I typically get a full week or more with Cult Nails’ formula, which is absolutely stellar as far as wear goes.

I think this is the first shade I've had application issues with from Cult Nails, so that was a bit disappointing--you can't win them all. I even tried reapplying while writing the review to see, but I still had the same results.

Looks like a shimmery version of OPI Do You Lilac It? (one of my favorite pastel polishes). Too bad this is so sheer and hard to apply, otherwise I would add it to my must-have list.

Wow, looking at those pictures B+ seems generous.  But the color is gorgeous.

  3. You can definitely see how sheer it gets in the middle of the nail! I’ve never seen a polish do that before. Crazy.

  4. Such a shame, the colour looks beautiful in the bottle

  5. so pretty!  Too bad about this one :(

I’m a sucker for purple polish, so I love it. It’s such a fun, summery colour.

I adore Cult Polish although I’m not crazy about this color. In my opinion, it is the easiest polish to apply because it is a jelly-like formula and ’spreads’ over the nail. It does sometimes get sheer in the middle or in certain spots but a second coat quickly fixes that. It dries much faster than most polish brands, too.
The only complaint I have is that the Cult polishes with glitter leave your nails with a rough, sandy texture. Otherwise, I have no complaints. Looks great and worth the price.
