I exfoliate my face everytime I take a bath and often in between when my skin feels like it needs a boost :)

  2. I exfoliate with quite a few things to prepare my skin for self tanning. I use exfoliating gloves and fabric discs to help with the process. They are soft yet help with the exfoliating and are made of microfiber. I use gentle to more harsh scrubs, Lush exfoliating masks like the lettuce and honey one and glycolic acid pads that also exfoliate. Of course, I rotate these items and tend to exfoliate about 4 days a weeks to prevent streaking during sunless tanning. During the winter I would say that would reduce to twice a week.

I thought you’re not supposed to exfoliate daily. Isn’t that really bad (harsh) for your skin?

I guess it’s ok if you use one made especially for your face. They are often hydrating and come in smaller grain sizes.
      (am I making any sense?)

  4. Sass

Twice. I have some serious skin issues at the moment. :(

  5. Kajsa

2-3 times a week. But like a year of so ago, I did it once a month or whenever I’d remember :D

I have mild exfoliators in my daily cleanser, so everyday!

  7. It’s funny, I just got gently scolded about this by the MUA at the Lancome counter yesterday when I went to get a foundation match done. So I stopped by the grocery store on the way home and picked up one of the St. Ives apricot scrubs. Guess it’s a habit I need to start…how often do you guys recommend?

St Ive’s is the worst possible thing to use as a scrub for your face. Don’t let it anywhere near your skin.

    • Grace

Agreed. I used to use St Ives Apricot Scrub, and it becomes really harsh for your skin over time. It got to a point when my face would be raw and red after I exfoliated, and I only exfoliated VERY gently with the tips of my fingers twice a week.

I use Dermalogicas Daily Microfoliant – a gift from God himself, that keeps my face glowing…..you dhould all try it! It’s like a powder and when you add water its turn into this gorgeous paste, that exfoliates your skin very gently….I love that stuff :-)

depends on the product…if I use enzyme cleanser I use it everyday, since it’s really gentle, but grainy scrub is not recomended more than twice a week ’cause it’s too scratchy and it can harm the upper layer of skin

I use a facial buff pad with my face wash so it’s kind of like exfoliating every day!

exfoliation is very much overrated. Your skin naturally exfoliates or sheds off dead skin layer once every 28 days. However, this decreases with age and an exfoliant in most cases will help. However, going to your dermatologist is recommended to make sure you are not over exfoliating.

Exfoliating too much is not good for your skin as your skin will absorb pollutants and other harsh irritants, hence the protective skin layer does what it does, protects your skin from outside sources such as pollutants and other irritants.
Having said that, each to its own and it doesn’t bother me if other people exfoliate daily or few times a week, it’s their skin, do what they will with it. :)

I use Retin-A every night which promotes cell turnover/exfoliation. My dermatologist said as we age, our cell turnover reduces dramatically — that is what can lead to dull, dead skin that can clog pores and enhance the appearance of fine lines. I believe most derms and estheticians recommend exfoliating at least 1-2 times a week. But it really depends on your age/skin type :)

  14. Three or four times a week, usually. I alternate between bigger and smaller buffing grains, though, and I have an exfoliating cloth that I use when washing my face.

  15. I have oily skin and my pores get clogged up very fast. So I exfoliate about 3 or 4 times a week. I am not sure if that’s the best thing for my skin but at least it doesn’t feel rough with all the blackheads. I use St. Ives apricot scrub.

I never have to exfoliate my skin, lucky I guess.

My cleanser has gentle exfoliating beads in it, so I pretty much exfoliate every day. But I have a facial exfoliator brush, so I give my face a bit of tough love once or twice a week.

  19. Nicci

My skin is somewhat oily so I exfoliate twice a week, sometimes three.

  20. Wilcoa

Generally I try to exfoliate once a week, but most of the time I can just check my skin to know when. When it tends to get dry and flakey it’s a good time to rid of those dead skin cells ;P

  21. Every night with my clarisonic!

  22. margot

only once a week. Since we only have a certain amount of skin, over exfoliating is a no-no for me.

  23. I exfoliate 2-3 times a week since it’s a habit for me and I don’t over exfoliate. Sometimes for a week, I use my Pond’s Exfoliating Cleanser everyday in case my skin needs a boost.

  24. I exfoliate every 2 or 3 days. This schedule keeps my skin looking smooth and fresh, enhancing the appearance of my foundation. If I don’t exfoliate regularly, I break out.
