Chanel Phoenix Rouge Allure Laque Review, Photos, Swatches, Lip Swatches

Date: Sunday, October 4th, 2009 Author:

Chanel Phoenix Rouge Allure Laque ($32.00) is the sixth shade to lust after in our seven days of Chanel Rouge Allure Laque feature.

Phoenix is a medium bright pink. It’s not really cool-toned, but it’s not warm, either (although, I’ve rarely met a pink I’d really classify as warm, but I digress!). I’d call it neutral-cool if pressed. Easy to apply, opaque color in one quick layer, and stunning color that lasts for hours and through eating/drinking? I’m totally on board with that! Phoenix is just as amazing as the other shades, and it doesn’t disappoint in the least bit. It’s a great shade that’s noticeable, bright without being neon, and still wearable. If the lightness of Ming wasn’t your style, maybe the brightness of Phoenix is a better fit for you. It has a light glossy sheen with subtle pinkish/white shimmer.

Since I don’t want to just re-write what I say about the formula (since it is the same–if there are any variations, you can be sure I’ll call them out), here’s a quick bullet-point summary.

Pros

  • Satiny, creamy lip color that hydrates
  • Opaque color in one layer–very pigmented
  • Lasts for hours and even through eating/drinking
  • Glossy sheen
  • Looks like a lipstick AND a gloss
  • Easy to travel with
  • Sleek packaging

Cons

  • Pricey at $32 each

  • Product: 29/30
  • Value: 8/10
  • Ease of Use: 5/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

Recommendation: If you like a pop of bright pink on your lips, Phoenix has you covered!

    Starting with Dynastie and Dragon

  2. bec says:

wow, this looks very pretty! thanks christine for all these reviews!
are these chanel rouge allure laques limited edition or are they a permanent addition to the chanel cosmetics line? i hope it’s the latter!

  3. Now, that looks like something for me, love it!

  4. Renee says:

    Wow, Phoenix looks pretty.

  5. DallasBrownEyes says:

I am going to be soooo broke when I leave the mall this afternoon! I am looking at dynastie and imperial rouge, but will have to check this one also. And that’s before my stop at the MAC counter. LOL

  6. Kristin says:

This is my favorite of all the colors so far. I would call this watermelon pink – I love it!

  7. Christy says:

Oh, I want! My BF is going to deal with the pink lips.

  8. Jacks says:

Goodness. Christine, you are KILLING me with all these Chanel lip swatches. Every colour you’ve featured is one that I would totally wear. I’m lusting after everything, lol!

BTW this is my first time commenting…long time lurker/fan of Temptalia. :)

    • Christine says:

Yay!! Congrats on the first comment :) I hope you’ll comment more often!

I think Chanel did an *excellent* job choosing colors — sure, there are shades I’d love to see in the future, but all of the shades released are very wearable and even universal. What are your favorites?

      • Jacks says:

So far my favourites are Santal, Dynastie (I’m such a sucker for beautiful coral lippies!), Coromandel and Dragon (this year I’ve been venturing into bold lip territory). It’s been hard trying to find a true red that doesn’t make my skintone (NC30/MUFE HD #123) look very sallow. Dragon looks perfect!

Can’t wait to see your swatch of Mandarin! Love this series :)

  9. Wilcoa says:

Ugh, gorgeous! If I remember right these are limited edition, right? Which is too bad since they could easily becomes staples for anyone. I just love the fact that they stay on through wear and tear which is something you really can’t say about many lip products.

  10. Katie says:

Ok, you really must stop making me so jealous of your collection of these! I want them so bad! Grr for Chanel being so expensive…

  11. amy says:

Ohh la la, another gorgeous pink to add to by Chanel list Ming, Santal and now Phoenix! Phoenix reminds me of a watermelon. It also look a little like MAC Lustering lipstick, but more opaque and the recently released Dazzleglass Creme Do it up! but less glossy and without the glitter.

  12. MC says:

Can you dupe a MAC lipstick color for this? I know the wear might not be as good but the price is a lot tastier!

    • Christine says:

Reader Amy mentioned it being sort of similar to Lustering, and I’d agree that that’s probably the best MAC dupe for it. Maybe put Love Nectar or Nymphette on top :)

  13. Jennifer says:

    My color lol!

The color for me comes out like the swatches below the lip swatch.

It looks good too with Do it up over it…But it is really too purty to cover.

  14. Ashley says:

That’s like orgasmic bubble gum, OMG.
I definitely am willing to shell out 30+ dollars for THIS one.

I think this one is my favourite as of yet that has been swatched, and I’ll definitely be putting this on my Christmas list.

  15. Gina says:

Christine, can you do a post of all the lip colors when you have completed all 7? I would love to see all the pics one right after the other to kinda compare colors and try to decide which other ones i want! lol I already bought Dragon and received a comment from a MAC MUA about how she loved my lips! :)

  16. j e n says:

    Hi Christine!

I can’t say this enough I am ABSOLUTELY IN LOVE with this product. My birthday is coming up real soon and my Mom (the greatest Mom on the planet) decided to give me an early birthday present and surprised me with 4 of these beauties!! (including this one) I use Ming and Santal every other day and save the other 2 colors Dragon and Phoenix for special occasions! I think I might wear this one on my birthday! ;) But they are suuuper expensive my Mom thinks I’m crazy for choosing that as my birthday gift but…. I’M NOT these are amazing and I’m so happy that they were released right around my birthday!
P.S. You always have THEE best swatches. LOL! <3
