Chanel Gourmandise (76) Rouge Coco Shine
Chanel Gourmandise (76) Rouge Coco Shine

Chanel Gourmandise (76) Rouge Coco Shine ($32.50 for 0.10 oz.) is a soft peach with a hint of pink. This is a limited edition shade with the typical Rouge Coco Shine formula: incredibly sheer color that gives off mostly shine, and this particular shade has some silver sparkle. MAC Shy Girl is warmer, more pigmented.
Chanel Peregrina is more pigmented. See comparison swatches.

The formula is supposed to be sheer, shiny, and hydrating. This might be better on someone with more pigmented lips as a way to lighten and soften the natural pigmentation, because on my lips, it looks a lot like my natural lip color and adds mostly shine (and some shimmer), though you can see in the swatch on my skin that there is actually color–that color just gets lost on my lip color even more than it might on another natural lip color. The shininess is apparent for an hour and a half, and then there’s a duller shine that lingers for another half hour before it all seems to have faded away. It has a very slick, balm-like consistency that glides on easily and feels almost wet. I wore this twice (in a row), and it was lightly moisturizing but not as hydrating as a lip balm.

It’s not a product for everyone; you have to love sheer products, the consistency of this (as it is very comfortable to wear), and so on. I totally get it when someone says, “What’s the point?” or “Might as well wear lip balm,” but that’s why there are a whole slew of products on the market – the ultra sheer to the intensely pigmented.

Depending on your natural lip color, the effect of this may be more noticeable on you than it looks on me, but it does have sheer color payoff, as expected, and is lightly moisturizing. It is a product that needs to be reapplied frequently.

Too sheer and it settles into lines…

  2. I’m sure this would show up on my lips (everything does), but I can’t stand the shimmer in this. I don’t like shimmer in MLBB shades.

  3. Ridiculous, but I really like this one even though you can barely see it. I like that it is pinker than Shy Girl which pulls on the wrong side of orangey for me. I have absolutely no need for it, but I may have to add this down the line.

  4. This would be really cute if it was a bit more pigmented. I’m not really one for sheer lipsticks.

    • Me neither, Danielle! I love my lipstick with medium or more color. Gloss can be kind of sheer in color but if it’s sheer in color then I want a truck-load of sparkle ;)

I actually really like sheer lipsticks, and because I have so much pink in my lips, I could probably pull this off. I prefer to play down my lips, and bring the focus to my eyes & bone structure, so I typically just wear a tinted lip balm for day, although for evening, I sometimes go bold. However, I have a “wishlist” that’s over $500 long, so for the time being, I’ll have to pass on this.

  6. I own so many sheer lipsticks and glosses that look so pigmented in the tube but get lost on my very pigmented lips.
I prefer more pigmented and opaque finishes, everything else just seems wasteful. I also find sheerer formulas are very gritty on me, probably because of sparkle.

  7. I love Chanel lippies, but I believe this is a little to sheer for me. Love the shimmer though. I think on the right lips it’d look perfect. Thankyou for sharing!
