Chanel Aqualumiere Gloss: Canari, Colibri, Hirondelle
Chanel Aqualumiere Gloss ($27.00) will see an addition of three new, limited edition shades as part of Chanel’s Holiday Collection. The shades include Canari, which is a peachy-melon with golden-peach shimmer; Colibri, which is a shimmery champagne with iridescent shimmer; and Hirondelle, which is a medium pink with pink and gold shimmer.
All three Aqualumiere Glosses appearing with the holiday collection are very sheer shades. They pack pretty shimmer, but they don’t add much in the way of color. Canari goes on as a golden shimmer, which is pretty and definitely holiday-esque–I’d probably layer it over a red for a little extra glitz. Colibri makes my lips appear cooler and paler with iridescent silvery white shimmer. It actually reminds me a bit of MAC’s She-Zam Dazzleglass, but with a little more of a pinkish tone to it. Surprisingly, Hirondelle adds the most color to lips, and it appears as a soft, slightly milky pink with pink shimmer.
Aqualumiere Glosses are sheer, ultra glossy, and non-sticky. It comes with a brush-tipped applicator which makes for fairly easy application. I’m easygoing when it comes to gloss applicators – doe foot or brush, it’s all good! They’re not the most long-lasting lipgloss (I certainly wouldn’t dub them long-wearing) – I get about three hours of wear when I layer one on by itself. Over a lipstick, I do get better results (four to five hours overall for the average pairing). I still prefer some of the earlier released shades of Aqualumiere Glosses–I remember being really jazzed over them initially–but these new shades for holiday are a little too sheer for my liking. I’d suggest checking out permanent shades like Candy Glow and Ginger Shimmer instead.
Bottom Line: Aqualumiere Glosses are, by their nature, sheer, so I’m not going to knock a bunch of points off on that account. These shades just aren’t to my particular taste, but if you like non-sticky, ultra glossy lipgloss, then Aqualumiere Glosses are always a good bet–just as long as you’re in the market for something on the sheerer side.

- Product: 24/30
- Value: 8/10
- Ease of Use: 4/5
- Packaging: 4/5

Recommendation: If you’re a fan of the feel and texture of Chanel’s Aqualumiere Glosses, you might want to peep the new shades. They’re very much on the sheer side, though!

All are just WOW. :)

nice.. but u might as well wear a clear gloss.

I agree. I have Ginger Shimmer and love the color, not sheer at all :) It is the first dark color I have ever used.

wow, that is sheer. You might as well get MAC dazzleglass and save a few bucks. I do like Chanel glossimers and think the price isn’t bad because of all the sparkle and pigmentation, it’s like a dazzle and lipstick in one.

I think the texture between the two is significantly different, so it really depends on what you like :)

Wow.. they really are sheer. I wish that Canari had more color. It’s so pretty in the tube.

oh no… looks like clear gloss on your lips! LOL.. no, thanks!

very pretty but super sheer. i still don’t think it’s enough to break my into chanel lip gloss territory.

All of these look terrible, these should be an F.

I disagree – they’re designed to be sheer, so how can you say they failed that? If you like pigmented glosses, I can see why these aren’t to your taste, but it doesn’t mean the product sucks!

I love the Hirondelle color from the tube, but I was expected to be more vibrant on the lips. From the photos I really don’t see so much of a difference when it comes to the colors, they all seems the same on the lips.

Yay..I’ve been waiting for these. By far..my fave. No scent..no sticky. Love ‘em. Christine, are these in stores now?? I thought the original release was Nov so I’m just checking. Thanks!!

I think so!

hirondelle looks like a good milky baby pink gloss :)

This doesn’t seem worth it!

these are really BARELY there

I agree with the others, they are way too sheer. I have a few Aqualumieres and they are much much more pigmented. Lovely colours though – in the tube.

I will certainly be buying these. I have several aqualumiere’s and luckily for me, they are not sheer on my pigmented lips. They show up very well without layers and layers and/or lipliners. I can’t wait for these!

I don’t think the Aqualumiere glosses are for me, as I have plenty of sheer layering colours from several brands that are in the lower to middle price range and those are excellent IMO. If I were to pay for a gloss from Chanel, I would choose something with a higher colour payoff to show it off! I might as well show it off because Chanel is pricey. Such as the Allure Lacque line.

So sheer and boring :(
Tuesday, October 20, 2009
yeah, too bad it’s almost translucent, the colors are pretty buy not tinted enough

I don’t know guys..I think that the pink, Hirondelle color creates a really interesting pale, milky look. I have yet to have found a gloss that does has that effect without being thick and goopy, like Nars Turkish Delight or MAC Underage. I’m pretty excited about it. Not fully sold on the other two shades..but the main selling point for me is that these glosses are the best formula for those who are completely averse to sticky..like myself.

I agree with you! I tested out Hirondelle yesterday and it was gorgeous. It gave a MLBB look and is extremely smooth. It was tough to fork over $27 for a lip gloss but this one really impressed. Couldn’t quite find a non-sticky gloss dupe at MAC.

Theses colors are really sheer!
Friday, November 6, 2009
is it me or do these resemble the MAC mischeif makers glosses?
Friday, November 6, 2009
I don’t think they do at all!

Can you compare Canari to Candy Glow? In color and pigmentation? Thanks!!!

Canari is sheerer, more of a peachy shade (Candy Glow had a lot more pink in it), but the texture is the same.
