Challenge: Felines — Emily, Aracely, Elli, El, Jessica, Etaoin

It was such a pleasure to see all of the different looks and takes on the feline theme of this month’s challenge!  We have subtle and natural to bolder and more dramatic in these first looks.  As always, I post in the order that entries are received.  I will be posting one or two sets per day ’til we’ve showcased all challenge-takers (which is around 30 lovelies!).

Emily

EMILY is sixteen, and she first started to fall in love with makeup after watching YouTube videos for a few years. She hopes to take cosmetology classes and maybe open a YouTube account in the future.

INSPIRATION: “My inspiration was my favorite wild cat, the Tiger. I thought the colors would make a very nice, wearable but fun look.” — Emily

EYES: She primed her eyes with Urban Decay Primer Potion, and then layered Revlon Skinlights #908 Illuminance Cream Shadow all over the lid. She applied a light orange shade from Coastal Scents’ 88 Matte Palette on the inner third of the eye with a medium orange over the rest of the eye. She mixed bright orange and light brown for the outer corner and crease. She used Pur Minerals Spiced Mocha Eyeshadow to line the upper lash line with Urban Decay Whiskey 24/7 Liner on the upper waterline. She used Bare Minerals Flawless Lash Mascara on lashes.

LIPS: She applied Avon Nude Gold Glazewear Lipstick on lips.

FACE: She wore BareMinerals Fair Foundation with Too Faced Snow Bunny Bronzer applied to hollow of cheeks and Bare Minerals A Little Sun All Over Face Color on cheeks. She used Urban Decay Virgin Eyeshadow to highlight cheekbones.

Aracely

ARACELY is twenty-four years old and absolutely in love with makeup. For her, makeup is not only an expression of beauty but an expression of artistic quality.

INSPIRATION: “My feline inspired makeup was inspired by my cat Pushie. Pushie is a very cat, he was a stray I adopted. But also being loving, he has sass so to I wanted to create a look that conveyed those two strong qualities that he has.” — Aracely

EYES: She applied Urban Decay Sin Primer Potion all over the lid and a thin line underneath the lower lash line. Then, she tightlined using Elizabeth Arden’s Smoky Black Eye Pencil and drew outward. She used Lancome’s Lezard Eyeshadow on the outer third of the lid and into crease. On the lower lid, she drew a thin line using Lancome’s Positive Eyeshadow and on the inner corner of the eye. She used Clinique’s High Length Mascara on lashes.

FACE: She wore Lancome Shimmer Mocha Havana Blush Subtil on cheeks.

Elli

ELLI loves makeup and the art of it. She has a makeup and fashion blog where she shares tips and knowledge about makeup.

INSPIRATION: “My inspiration was just taking what I saw in the collection (Bermese) and converting that into something I would wear. The colors and feel for my look were obviously, felines. But I also saw mysteriousness and sultry in the MAC line.” — Elli

EYES: She used MAC Retrospeck Eyeshadow on the inner lid, MAC Humid Eyeshadow on the middle lid, MAC Club Eyeshadow on the middle lid, MAC Mystery Eyeshadow on the outer corner, mAC Kid Eyeshadow in the crease, and MAC Vanilla Eyeshadow on the brow bone. She lined with Make Up For Ever #0L Aqua Liner, Heroine Liquid Liner, and coated lashes with L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara.

FACE: She wore Laura Mercier Foundation Primer as a base, with HERA Foundation on top. She set with MAC Medium Dark Mineralize Skinfinish and blushed cheeks with MAC Sunbasque Blush.

El

EL is a mom of four who lives in Hawaii. She says her kids are her life, but she works as a freelance makeup. She also volunteers for a few non-profit organizations. You can find her over on YouTube!

INSPIRATION: “The inspiration was Beyonce’s Kitty Kat music video. I basically tried to recreaet the look that she had for this entire video.” — El

EYES: She started with Urban Decay Sin Primer Potion as an eyeshadow base, and then applied Urban Decay Oraculum Eyeshadow all over the lid. She made the spots using MAC Rich Ground Fluidline and Arbonne Black Liquid Liner. She dotted the center of each spot with a touch of Oraculum. She lined the upper and lower waterlines with MAC Smolder Eye Kohl, upper lash line with Blacktrack, and lower lash line smudged with MAC Carbon Eyeshadow.

Jessica

JESSICA is nineteen years old and a sophomore in college, who’s studying psychology. She has a passion for makeup and often does her friends’ makeup! She also has a video on how-to create this look here.

INSPIRATION: “The inspiration for the look I came up with was a taken from the coat of a Leopard. I choose to do a mostly neutral eye with a pop of gold in the crease. I used eyeliner to create the best cat eye I could do. I wanted my look to be almost wearable. The special touch I added was a leopard print above the crease.” — Jessica

Etaoin

ETAOIN is twenty-four years and just completed her Masters in Accounting. She’ll be starting work in the big, bad world come October, so she’s enjoying her free time until then by hanging out with friends and family and watching Mad Men and Breaking Bad.

INSPIRATION: “I wanted a look that would be wearable with a theatrical edge. The colours in the eye makeup are safari inspired – gold and green – which were extended outwards to give a feline shaped eye. The leopard print spots on the cheeks and earthy tones in the lips and blush complete the look.” — Etaoin

EYES: She used Urban Decay Half Baked Eyeshadow, Urban Decay Protest Eyeshadow, Gosh Black Liquid Liner, Urban Decay Zero 24/7 Liner, and Lancome Hypnose Mascara.

LIPS: She wore MAC Crosswires Lipstick.

FACE: She used DiorSkin #010 Nude with Chanel Reflex Joue Contraste on cheeks.
