Illamasqua Shard Lipstick

Illamasqua Shard Lipstick
Illamasqua Shard Lipstick

Illamasqua Shard Lipstick ($24.00 for 0.14 oz.) is described as a “red violet [with a matte finish].” It’s a deepened, slightly muted, raspberry wine with a matte finish. NARS Afghan Red is redder. NARS Valparaiso is a touch lighter. MAC Red Dwarf is lighter. Guerlain Flirt is less matte. Guerlain Bee is less matte. See comparison swatches.

It was opaque applied with rich, full color coverage. The consistency was very lightly creamy, but it was noticeably creamier compared to some other Illamasqua lipsticks in the range, which can sometimes drag or pull at the lip. It does tend to skip a little when I tried applying it from the tube, but it was barely noticeable. It wore incredibly well, topping in at six and a half hours, and then a stain that lingered for another two hours. While it had a distinct matte finish, it didn’t feel drying while I wore it (but not hydrating).  If you have drier lips, you’ll definitely want to prep by both exfoliating and laying down balm about twenty to thirty minutes prior to applying this shade, though, as the drier, matte finish can be unforgiving if there are any flakes or dryness on the lips.

P.S. — I don’t see it on Sephora yet, but it should release there soon (hopefully).

YSL Corail Fauve (12) Glossy Stain

YSL Corail Fauve (12) Glossy Stain
YSL Corail Fauve (12) Glossy Stain

YSL Corail Fauve (12) Glossy Stain ($34.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a medium-dark orange-red with a glossy finish. Giorgio Armani #402 is lighter, more muted. OCC Jealous is brighter. NARS Hollywoodlawn is darker. Chanel Exces is similar. See comparison swatches.

Corail Fauve had semi-opaque color coverage–it wasn’t quite as opaque as some of the Glossy Stains have been, but it wasn’t sheer. It gave the lips strong, noticeable color without looking heavy. The consistency feels like water initially, but it transitions into a cushion-y, gel-like consistency after five to ten minutes. When it becomes a gel, it is lightly tacky as well. The formula has a sweet, fruity scent but no noticeable taste. This shade was comfortable to wear–being neither drying nor hydrating–and lasted well for five and a half hours. The glossiness persisted for just over four hours, while the color and residual stain did well until the sixth hour, and then it started to noticeably fade from there.

Too Faced Razzle Dazzle Rose La Creme Lipstick

Too Faced Razzle Dazzle Rose La Creme Lipstick
Too Faced Razzle Dazzle Rose La Creme Lipstick

Too Faced Razzle Dazzle Rose La Creme Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.11 oz.) is described as a “pink rose.” It’s a lightly blue-based, light-medium pink with a creamy, luminous finish. Urban Decay Lovechild is glossier. Urban Decay Obsessed is warmer. MAC Divine Choice is similar. MAC Vivid Imagination is lighter, warmer. MAC Please Me is slightly warmer. See comparison swatches.

It had semi-opaque color payoff; seemed slightly less pigmented compared to other shades I’ve tried in the La Creme formula. It’s lightly translucent, so the natural lip color comes through, but the lighter shade does seem to make it appears just ever so uneven. Razzle Dazzle Rose lasted for three and a half hours, and it was lightly hydrating when worn. The consistency is creamy, slightly thick, and comfortable to wear.

Laura Mercier Cozy Rouge Nouveau Weightless Lip Colour

Laura Mercier Cozy Rouge Nouveau Weightless Lip Colour
Laura Mercier Cozy Rouge Nouveau Weightless Lip Colour

Laura Mercier Cozy Rouge Nouveau Weightless Lip Colour ($24.00 for 0.06 oz.) is described as a “creme rosy red.” It’s a plummy red–not a bright, in-your-face red, and not a true plum (too warm and red for that). It had a lightly glossy sheen that still kept it looking like a lipstick but definitely not matte. Urban Decay Manic is darker, redder. Chanel Ce Soir is lighter, pinker. MAC Grande Dame is lighter. MAC Glamourdaze is darker, more muted, more plum. Guerlain Grenade is darker, pinker. Burberry Redwood is browner, darker, less pink. See comparison swatches.

This is a recently released formula that has three difference finishes (Sheer, Matte, and Creme), and Cozy has a Creme finish, which means it’s supposed to have a “luminous finish” and “medium-to-full coverage.” The formula, in general, is supposed to be hydrating, long-lasting, and “breathable.” The real surprise is just how lightweight it feels applied–almost as if you had nothing on–and anyone who normally dislikes lipsticks because they feel heavy may want to check out this range to see if it is more to their liking. Cozy had rich, opaque color coverage, and it was incredibly comfortable to wear, as it was nicely hydrating during the five and a half hours it lasted. It also wore away really evenly, as a gradual fade, with no ring of color around the edge of the lips.  Thankfully it’s quite pigmented, because the 0.06 oz. amount is very, very small relative to other lipsticks (usually around 0.10 oz., and for this type of packaging, I don’t remember seeing 0.06 oz. before–closer to 0.08 oz. or so).

YSL Rouge Gouache (11) Glossy Stain

YSL Rouge Gouache (11) Glossy Stain
YSL Rouge Gouache (11) Glossy Stain

YSL Rouge Gouache (11) Glossy Stain ($34.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a bright, vibrant orange-red with a glossy finish. OCC Meta is similar. OCC Jealous is slightly more orange. Urban Decay F-Bomb is darker, redder. See comparison swatches.

I might not have had good luck with Violet Edition earlier this week, but Rouge Gouache was fantastic! It had rich, juicy color with most opaque color coverage that applied evenly, smoothly, and looked all-around gorgeous for a full six hours. The glossiness wanes as I approached the fifth hour of wear, but it definitely hangs out and is noticeable much longer than the average gloss. The color itself persists and stains the lips, which is the color you see that continues for another three to four hours (fading evenly). YSL’s Glossy Stains have a sweet, fruity scent but no discernible taste. I wouldn’t describe it as hydrating, but it’s not drying over the six hours it wears for. The consistency starts out very water-like but then develops into a slightly tacky gel-like formula (about five to ten minutes).

Urban Decay Shattered Face Case

Urban Decay Shattered Face Case
Urban Decay Shattered Face Case

Urban Decay Shattered Face Case ($44.00 for 0.43 oz.) includes five eyeshadows, one lip color, one eyeliner, two blushes, and one highlighter. Each eyeshadow is 0.03 oz., each blush is 0.05 oz., the highlighter is 0.05 oz., Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color is 0.10 oz., and the 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil is 0.03 oz. There is $54 worth of eyeshadows, $9 worth of blush (Urban Decay doesn’t currently sell powder blushes, so I took the price-per-ounce for the Naked Flush palette, which is the most comparable product I could think of), $19 worth of lip color, and $14 worth of eyeliner. The kit is at least $96 in value (the blush/highlighter could make the value higher if they were actually sold separately).

The Shattered Face Case is much better than the Anarchy Face Case, as the overall quality is higher.  None of the products are outright bad here; Temper and Bleach are a smidgen powdery, while Remix and Nameless are slightly dry (not as buttery/creamy as the best Urban Decay eyeshadows are!).  Shakedown was the best powder product as it had the nicest texture and payoff.  The blushes performed better here, though Glint did emphasize pores slightly.

Lovechild is described as a “cool pink cream.” It’s a medium pink with subtle, blue undertones and a glossy sheen. It had opaque color coverage and wore well for four hours. MAC Steady Going is cooler-toned, matte. MAC Next Fad is shimmery. MAC Please Me is similar, more matte. Le Metier de Beaute Fiji is darker. L’Oreal Florid Pink is sheerer. Urban Decay Obsessed is a bit lighter. MAC Viva Glam Nicki is warmer. See comparison swatches.

Overexposed is described as a “dusty rose.” It’s a muted rosy pink with soft, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good color payoff, and the texture was soft, blendable, and not powdery. This shade wore well for eight hours and showed slight signs of fading after nine hours. theBalm Houndstooth is a bit richer in color, so it is a bolder pick. MAC Rosy Outlook is less warm-toned. Bobbi Brown Peony is shimmery. See comparison swatches.

Temper is described as a “soft baby pink.” It’s a light-medium pink with subtle cool undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had decent to good pigmentation, and the texture was finely-milled but a little dry, so it didn’t blend as easily as I would have liked to have seen. It wore well for seven and a half hours and showed some signs of fading after eight and a half hours. MAC Pure Femininity is similar. Chanel Inspiration is warmer, lighter, cream. theBalm Argyle is similar. MAC Stay Pretty is a bit cooler-toned. See comparison swatches.

Glint is described as a “soft pink-champagne shimmer.” It is a muted, champagne beige with a frosted finish. It had good color payoff, and the texture was soft, finely-milled, and easy to blend on the skin. It lasted just over eight hours well on my skin, and it was noticeably faded after eight and a half hours. It does slightly emphasize pores. Tom Ford Guilt is a cream product. bareMinerals The Love Affair is warmer. See comparison swatches.

Shakedown is described as a “medium gray-brown satin.” It’s a medium-dark, warm-toned taupe. It’s a mix of gray and brown where the top is gray while the undertone is a strong, orange-toned brown. It had good color payoff, and the texture was fairly soft and smooth. Urban Decay Lost is warmer. MAC Satin Taupe is similar. Urban Decay Barlust is darker, cooler-toned. Urban Decay Muse is also darker, less shimmery. See comparison swatches.

Remix is described as a “rich purple shimmer with tonal micro-glitter.” It’s a medium-dark, plummy purple with warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It had good color payoff but the texture was slightly dry. MAC Pinkluxe #3 is pinker. Urban Decay Last Call is warmer. MAC Pink Union #1 is very similar. MAC Universal Appeal is also similar. See comparison swatches.

Nameless is described as a “rich brown-gunmetal satin.” It’s a medium brown with warm, golden sheen and warm, orange-y undertones. It had a metallic sheen. The texture was soft, smooth, and buttery, and the color payoff was fantastic. CoverGirl Melted Caramel Flame is a cream product, lighter. Urban decay Nevermind is less metallic. Buxom Mutt is a cream product, warmer. bareMinerals A-Ha is less metallic. Inglot #402 is warmer. See comparison swatches.

Minor Sin is described as a “champagne-pink satin.” It’s a light pink with warm undertones and a pale golden shimmer. It had good color payoff, and the texture was soft and smooth. MAC Cheryl Chic is slightly pinker. MAC Love Power is a cream product. MAC Rose Light is similar but more frosted, less warm-toned. Chanel Harmonie du Soir #4 is lighter. See comparison swatches.

Bleach is described as a “yellow-beige matte.” It’s a light beige with creamy yellow tones and a matte finish. It had good pigmentation with a soft, silky texture–just a tiny bit powdery. Wet ‘n’ Wild Hard Being the It Girl #3 is darker. MAC Greenluxe #1 is more shimmery. Disney Ali Ababwa is similar. Urban Decay Walk of Shame is cooler-toned. Urban Decay Foxy is a smidgen yellower. NARS Biarritz is less yellow. MAC Brule is similar. L’Oreal Endless Pearl is less yellow. Inglot #353 is lighter. See comparison swatches.

Zero is described as a “zealous black cream.” It’s a medium-dark black with a mostly matte finish. It had good pigmentation in a single stroke, and it’s a good basic black. It wears eight and a half hours well on me. See comparison swatches.
