NARS 413BLKR Velvet Matte Lip Pencil ($24.00 for 0.086 oz.) is described as a “fuchsia.” It’s a vibrant fuchsia-red with the barest flecks of iridescent blue sparkle that just peek through the color. Tom Ford Aphrodisiac is less matte and has no sparkle. MAC Moxie is similar, but it is completely matte and less blue-based. Illamasqua Atomic is extremely comparable–it even has the iridescent shimmer; it appears to have more of it.
NARS’ Velvet Matte Lip Pencil is supposed to combine the convenience of a pencil with the application of a lipstick . The formula is meant to be rich in color, long-wearing, non-drying, and have a “velvety matte finish.” It can be used for lining, all-over lip color, or paired with another lip product. It has opaque color coverage, and the finish is definitely matte–there’s a tiny sheen from the sparkle, but it really looks rather matte on. I found this particular shade a wee bit drying. It wore for six hours on and left behind a slight stain, but my lips were parched after wearing it. The pencil itself did tug and pull at lips during application, so getting even color took more effort than your typical lipstick would have.
The consistency was on the drier side, and the formula itself was somewhat drying when I tested it. It wears long, and it has good color payoff, it just doesn't feel as comfortable to wear or as easy to use as expected.

The Rich Lip Color formula is described as lightweight, rich in color, moisturizing, creamy, and long-lasting. It’s definitely one of my top lipstick formulas. There’s a nice creaminess that enables even, glide-on color with opaque color coverage, but it doesn’t slip and slide all over. It doesn’t feel or look thick, which also means you don’t have to worry about the color bunching up on itself. This shade wore six hours on me, and my lips felt hydrated even after I removed the product. It’s also scent- and taste-free, which is great for those more sensitive to scents.
It's definitely a modern interpretation of brown! There's a light dusting of rosiness that gives it a fleshy feel and makes it work on most lip colors.

It’s full formula name is “Rouge Haute Couleur Longue Tenue” or “Long-Wearing True Color Lipstick.” Diva is rich in pigment and applies with full color coverage with one pass. The texture is just creamy enough to enable good glide across the lips without pulling or tugging, but it doesn’t move around on the lips and almost feels like a matte lipstick. This particular shade lasted nearly eight hours, and while it wore for hours, it did not dry my lips out at all. It has a lightly floral scent.

Bobbi Brown Uber Beige Rich Lip Color ($24.00 for 0.13 oz.) is described as a “neutral brown beige.” It’s a warm, rosy beige with a healthy amount of pink and a natural sheen. MAC Pure Zen is a smidgen darker and has a slightly frosted finish in comparison. Dior Incognito is more subdued. MAC 3N is lighter.
Uber Beige yields opaque color coverage with little product. The consistency is creamy without being too slick, so it glides on but doesn’t slip around. It’s lightly moisturizing, wears five hours, and is scent- and taste-free. I love how creamy and opaque the shade is, but it’s still lightweight and stays in place well. This shade did not last quite as long as some of the other shades in the range do, but it did last well for a lighter shade.

It’s full formula name is “Rouge Haute Couleur Longue Tenue” or “Long-Wearing True Color Lipstick.” Both are very true; this is a highly pigmented, long-wearing lipstick that feels as good as it looks. Diorling wore for seven hours on me with residual staining getting me to eight hours without feeling compelled to reapply. It will last through drinking and a light meal as well. It’s lightly moisturizing, so my lips didn’t feel parched after I removed it. The color itself was fully opaque and very little product was needed to achieve full color coverage. It had a creamy, glide-on consistency that didn’t tug or pull at lips and deposited color evenly. Diorling is one of four shades for the holidays and is packaged in limited edition, vintage gold packaging.

It has mostly opaque color coverage (I’d say 95%) and a subtle sheen. The consistency is lightweight but very creamy, so it glides on easily without dragging or tugging on the lip and deposits even color. This shade wore just over six hours on me, which is great for a lipstick, but this formula touts eight hours, so it is a little short. Otherwise, it was moisturizing, comfortable to wear, and wore away evenly. It’s scent- and taste-free, and it is packaged in a black lacquered tube with a magnetic closure.
#526 is wearable and universally flattering across skin tones; it has just enough color to be noticeable and more than your natural lip color, but it won't wash you out or draw all the attention to your lips.
