Notorious (408)

Giorgio Armani Notorious (408) Lip Maestro Notorious ($38.00 for 0.22 fl. oz.) is a bright, medium red with warm, orange undertones and a cream finish. It had opaque pigmentation that applied well to lips with smooth, even coverage. The texture was velvety, creamy, and flattering on the lips as it masked my lip lines and did not sit in them. The color stayed on well for seven hours and left a slight stain behind, while the formula felt hydrating over time.

The Lip Maestro Notorious formula is supposed to have a “luminous matte” finish with “8 hours of wear” and “high pigment.” The Notorious shades are inspired by “chic Hollywood glamour” but otherwise appear very similar in feel to the original Lip Maestro formula. The consistency has more slip and a velvety-smooth feel that softly “clings” to the lips, so while the finish has a glossier look for the first few hours, the color stays on well. If you’ve ever used a silicone-based primer, there’s a bit of that feel to the formula overall. Most shades last between six and eight hours on me, are non-drying to lightly hydrating, and comfortable to wear. The formula is unscented and has no discernible taste.

Marc Jacobs Kate Le Marc Lip Creme ($30.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a medium-dark, rosy mauve with subtle, cool undertones and satin finish. It was richly pigmented with a creamy, smooth consistency that wasn’t too slippery nor was it too dry in the tube, so it glided on without tugging and delivered even coverage. The texture sat well on my lips and seemed to smooth out some of the texture on my lips. The lipstick was comfortable to wear and felt non-drying throughout the time it lasted (which was seven hours).

The formula is described as “highly pigmented” with “10-hour” wear and is “hydrating.” If you like creamy, satin-like color that’s very pigmented and comfortable to wear but aren’t going to hold the brand to its 10-hour wear time claim, the formula is well worth checking out! My experience with most shades has been the wear has been between four and eight hours, and they have been comfortable to wear with a few shades that can feel a bit drying toward the end of wear. There is a faint, floral scent but no discernible taste.

Giorgio Armani A-List (301) Lip Maestro Notorious ($38.00 for 0.22 fl. oz.) is a bright, medium orange with warm, red undertones and fine, gold pearl. It had rich, opaque pigmentation that applied evenly and smoothly across the lips. The consistency was creamy with a velvety-smooth feel that had a noticeable shine for two to three hours before it wore down to more of a velvet matte finish. The formula was comfortable to wear, hydrating, and lasted for seven hours on me.

MAC Love at First Bite Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a rich, medium-dark raspberry pink with subtle, cool undertones and a natural sheen. It had nearly opaque color payoff that applied evenly and smoothly across the lips. The lipstick had moderate slip but had a very light tackiness that helped it adhere nicely to the lips–not clingy but not slippery–and wear for almost six hours. The formula felt lightly hydrating while worn.

Mure

Jouer Mure Long-Wear Lip Crème Liquid Lipstick ($18.00 for 0.21 fl. oz.) is brighter, medium pink with subtle, cool, blue undertones and a matte finish. The liquid lipstick was thin but not watery, so the product was spreadable but did not appear streaky or uneven on the lips. It dried down to a matte finish that was a bit softer and not as flat-looking as other shades in the range, though there was color that settled and dried down into a couple of my deeper lip lines. The color stayed on well for just over six hours before fading noticeably, though it was mostly non-drying.

The formula is supposed to be “weightless” with “full coverage color” that “lasts all day.” It is the type of liquid lipstick that dries to a matte, transfer-proof finish. I find the formula varies from semi-opaque to opaque coverage with the more metallic shades often being more semi-opaque and buildable. The texture is thin but not watery, so they dry down a little faster than average, but I rarely feel like I don’t have enough time to apply or that the application is difficult. The wear ranges from five to eight hours, depending on the shade, and the formula is non-drying to slightly drying, depending on the shade. The formula has a strong, sweet scent–almost like caramel and vanilla to me.

Tarte Cruisin’ Rainforest of the Sea Color Splash Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark plum with subtle, warm undertones and a cream finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which was buildable to full coverage with just a touch more product layered on top. The lipstick was creamy, lightweight but not too thin, and comfortable to wear. This shade wore well for over six hours and was moisturizing over time.

The formula is supposed to be “long-wearing,” “full coverage,” and hydrating. The consistency has an incredibly smooth, creamy feel to it and has enough substance and thickness to it that it adheres well to the lips and usually doesn’t pull into lip lines. I felt like the formula felt slightly more emollient initially and “dried” a bit to more of a satin-to-cream finish after a few minutes (but not a true dry down, as it wasn’t transfer-resistant!). The majority of shades were very pigmented, easy to apply, comfortable to wear with light to moderate hydration over time, and lasted between four and seven hours on me. A few of the lightest and darkest shades weren’t as pigmented or were less flattering on the lips compared to more of the medium shades. There did not seem to be any added fragrance to it (smelled slightly waxy), and I didn’t notice any taste.
