Makeup Geek Daredevil Plush Lip Matte ($12.00 for 0.06 fl. oz.) is a bright, medium purple with subtle, warm undertones and a satin finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentatin one layer, but it would be buildable to opaque coverage with two layers (the consistency would get slippery, though). The texture felt very smooth, velvety, and spread across the lips with ease, but it did my lip lines no favors and appeared “cracked” around them. This shade lasted for four and a half hours, left a fuchsia stain behind, and did not feel drying while worn.

The formula is supposed to be a “cross between a cream and a mousse” that is “highly pigmented” with a “soft matte” finish. The consistency has an incredibly velvety, creamy feel without being slippery or wet, so it felt very smooth going on the lips and lightweight. I liked the way it felt on the lips for an hour or so of wear, but after testing about half of the range, they did not wear down well with an uneven fade and significant color in lip lines. While traditional liquid lipstick can dry and look “cracked,” I noticed that despite feeling quite forgiving, the finish often was not as lip color settled into and separated away from lip lines. The formula wasn’t designed to dry down to a flat, matte finish, and it does not, so the transfer was similar to that of a traditional, satin-finished tube lipstick for me. On me, the liquid lipsticks have lasted between four and six hours on me. They seem mostly non-drying on but seemed more drying as I wore them, particularly if I wore two in a row, which would leave my lips feeling raw. Just a heads up, each tube contains a surprisingly small amount of product (0.06 fl. oz.) relative to a lot of popular liquid lipstick formulas (Kat Von D contains 0.22 fl. oz., Anastasia contains 0.11 fl. oz., Smashbox contains 0.13 fl. oz., Stila contains 0.10 fl. oz., MAC contains 0.17 fl. oz.).

Burberry Brilliant Violet Liquid Lip Velvet ($34.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a bright, medium-dark berry plum with cooler undertones and a cream finish. It had rich, opaque color coverage that applied evenly and smoothly across the lips. The texture was ultra lightweight with a more whipped, mousse-like consistency that spread easily and did not look streaky. Though it did not have a “dry down” like some liquid lipsticks, it was still long-wearing at nearly eight hours (plus a fuchsia stain was left behind) and started to look mostly matte after four to five hours of wear. The formula was comfortable to wear, as I often forgot I even had it on, and it wasn’t drying at all.

The Liquid Lip Velvet formula is described as having “rich pigment, smooth application” and a “velvet finish that lasts up to eight hours” that is “non-drying.” Overall, the formula is fantastic for those who want the fluidity of a liquid product without the drying aspect of more traditional liquid lipsticks while not sacrificing wear time. The formula does not dry down completely, so there will be transfer, but the product is so pigmented that the color lasts awhile. I’ve found the colors to wear between six and eight hours and easily survive a solid meal. The liquid lipstick has a smooth, velvety consistency that is almost weightless (I forget I’m wearing it) that was never drying and always comfortable to wear. A pleasant surprise was that the formula was unscented (with no discernible taste either), which is not the norm with Burberry’s products.

Urban Decay Fireball Vice Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a soft, tangerine orange with iridescent pink pearl. It’s listed as a “Metallized” finish, but it seemed more like a Sheer Shimmer to me. It had semi-sheer to semi-opaque, buildable coverage with a lightweight, thinner texture that had noticeable slip. The color gravitated towards my lip lines, as it seemed thinner and lacked some of the gel-like quality of other shades in the range to keep the color from settling. Of course, it’s a pretty shade on as it has a subtle pink-to-peach shift in person, but it might be better layered over other shades or used with a lip primer. This shade lasted for three hours and was hydrating.

Burnt Spice

MAC Burnt Spice Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour ($21.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is a muted, dusty coral-rose with warm undertones and a matte finish. This shade dried down quite a bit darker than it appeared in the tube! The consistency was thin, smooth, and was easy to spread across the lips for even coverage. It was richly pigmented and did not appear “cracked” after the color dried down on my lips. It wore well for six hours, faded evenly, and was somewhat drying over time.

The Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour formula is supposed to be pigmented, last eight hours, and be “non-feathering.” They are typically pigmented and long-wearing, but the quality of the formula is all over the place–some shades wear down evenly, aren’t too drying, and apply well, while other shades are patchy, streaky, or prone to flaking (and also terribly drying!).

Burberry Light Nude (01) Liquid Lip Velvet ($34.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is light peach with warm undertones and a cream finish. The consistency was smooth, more mousse-like so there was more body to the product but never felt heavy on the lips. This shade was one that I found more difficult to apply along the edges, possibly due to the paler base; it made me want to reach for a liner just to get a better edge. It had nearly opaque color coverage that applied evenly. The color wore well for five hours and was neither drying nor hydrating, but I had color pull into my lip lines after three and a half hours of wear.

MAC Flesh Stone Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour ($21.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is a muted, medium taupe brown with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque color coverage in a single layer, and the color applied evenly on the lips. The consistency was thin without being watery, so it spread well but was still easy to work with. There was very slight “cracking” where the color pulled away at my deeper lip lines (center of my bottom lip). It lasted for six and a half hours and faded fairly evenly and did not flake away. The formula was drying over time, though.
