Burberry Rose Pink (307) Lip Velvet
Burberry Rose Pink (307) Lip Velvet

Burberry Rose Pink (307) Lip Velvet ($30.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a slightly warm, deep pink with a matte finish. Tom Ford Indian Rose is much lighter. MAC Speak Louder is cooler-toned. MAC Plumful is less pigmented, cooler. Guerlain Grenade is warmer. Chanel Taffeta Rose is brighter. Bobbi Brown Wild Rose is cooler. See comparison swatches.

It had rich, opaque color coverage, and it applied evenly and smoothly without pulling or tugging at the lip. The consistency is just creamy enough to glide on but not slide around the lip, so it stays in place well and lasted me six and a half hours when I wore it. If you love matte finishes for your lipsticks but find a lot of formulas drying or unforgiving, Burberry’s Lip Velvet is one of the better ones I’ve come across. It’s really comfortable to wear and doesn’t dehydrate my lips.

OCC Lovecraft Metallic Lip Tar
OCC Lovecraft Metallic Lip Tar

OCC Lovecraft Metallic Lip Tar ($18.00 for 0.33 fl. oz.) is described as an “iridescent pink/lilac metallic.” It’s a brightened, light-medium, blue-based pink with a metallic finish. Maybelline Pink Pop is warmer, not metallic. MAC Pink Nouveau is similar in color but doesn’t have a metallic finish. MAC Outrageously Fun is close in color but lacks the metallic finish. MAC Naughty Saute is lighter, not metallic. OCC Narcissus is similar in color but a matte finish. See comparison swatches.

Lovecraft is very, very, very metallic. As a result, it’s a little gritty, and it’s on the whole, somewhat drying, even if it wears well and lasts six and a half hours. It just wasn’t comfortable to wear, and the high metallic finish made it look chunky/gritty applied. It was quite pigmented, though, and maybe mixed with a little gloss, it would be easier on the lips, both in terms of application as well as for how it feels when worn.

Chanel Suspense Rouge Coco Shine
Chanel Suspense Rouge Coco Shine

Chanel Suspense Rouge Coco Shine ($34.00 for 0.10 oz.) is brightened, fuchsia pink with a luminous sheen and cool undertones. It had mostly opaque color with some very light translucency. Suspense lasted just under four hours on me, which is longer than the average Rough Coco Shine and just under average for lipsticks in general (on me). Revlon Sorbet is a smidgen lighter, less pigmented. Too Faced So Berry Sexy is cooler-toned, less fuchsia. MAC Lickable is less red. Guerlain Gigi is brighter. Guerlain Champs-Elysees is darker. See comparison swatches.

Synopsis Rouge Coco Shine ($34.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a softly, warmed-up medium brown with faint shimmer. Once applied, it looks less brown and warmer and slightly rosy (because of the natural pink tones in my lip color). It had semi-opaque color payoff with some translucency, and it lasted for three hours on me. shu uemura Dream Orange is lighter. MAC Glamour Era is less shimmery. MAC Mellowarm is similar. Guerlain Gracieuse is lighter. Guerlain Brun Satin is less pigmented. Benefit Saucy is warmer. See comparison swatches.

These are two more of eight new shades being added to the Rouge Coco Shine formula range, and the new shades are specifically designed to be more pigmented (“colour-rich”), as the Rouge Coco Shine formula normally has sheer color (by choice).  The consistency is lightweight, thin, and very emollient, as they feel like a lip balm/lipstick hybrid.  Suspense was moderately hydrating on me, while Synopsis was lightly hydrating.   Both shades lasted longer than the sheerer shades wear on me, but they are still a bit short compared to regular lipsticks so be prepared for more frequent reapplication.

Givenchy Fuchsia Irresistible (205) Le Rouge
Givenchy Fuchsia Irresistible (205) Le Rouge

Givenchy Fuchsia Irresistible (205) Le Rouge ($36.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “vibrant fuchsia.” It’s a bold, bright, cool-toned fuchsia with red tones and a satin sheen. NARS Carthage is slightly less bright. MAC Rare Exotic is cooler. MAC Lickable is lighter. Guerlain Champs-Elysees is redder. See comparison swatches.

I’m really quite enamored with the Le Rouge formula, and I suspect that next time Sephora has a sale going on, I’ll pick up a few more shades (assuming I can hold off until then!). Fuchsia Irresistible had rich, opaque color in nearly a single pass. The color was lightweight, comfortable, and wore for ages–nearly seven hours, plus left a residual stain. The consistency is creamy but doesn’t have too much slip, so it doesn’t bleed or feather. The formula looks lovely on the lips and really seems to give lips a smoother appearance overall, and it is hydrating when worn and for a couple of hours after it’s worn away. There’s a very faint scent that’s supposed to be mimosa and black currant, but I was hardly able to detect it in the tube and definitely not when applied.

Chanel Dialogue Rouge Coco Shine
Chanel Dialogue Rouge Coco Shine

Chanel Dialogue Rouge Coco Shine ($34.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a subtly warm-toned, medium red. I think it’s almost neutral, so if you have a cooler complexion, it may read more neutral to neutral-cool. It had semi-opaque color payoff and yielded a good amount of color while having a slight translucency that gave it a lighter-weight look on the lips (true to the Rouge Coco Shine texture, feel, and look). It lasted four hours, which is good for a Shine in experience. Revlon Wild Watermelon is a bit lighter. Chanel Amant is slightly warmer. Guerlain Coque d’Or is more shimmery. Dior Lady is similar. See comparison swatches.

Fiction Rouge Coco Shine ($34.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a pinky-berry with cool undertones. It had semi-opaque color payoff with a light translucency, so the natural lip color will still influence the overall color that you see. It lasted around four hours on me. MAC Lush Life is darker. MAC Scan-delicious is pinker. Guerlain Lou-Ling is similar. Guerlain Pour Troubler is also similar. Guerlain Guet-Apens is darker. See comparison swatches.

These are two of eight new shades being added to the Rouge Coco Shine formula range, and the new shades are specifically designed to be more pigmented (“colour-rich”), as the Rouge Coco Shine formula normally has sheer color (by choice). The consistency is lightweight, creamy, and slick–it feels like a lip balm and lipstick hybrid, so it’s emollient and can slide around a bit. I didn’t have any issues with either of these deeper shades feathering or bleeding, though. They were lightly moisturizing, but Rouge Coco Shines are never quite as hydrating as touted for me.

Flower Beauty Petal Kiss Kiss Stick Velvet Lip Color
Flower Beauty Petal Kiss Kiss Stick Velvet Lip Color

Flower Beauty Petal Kiss Kiss Stick Velvet Lip Color ($6.98 for 0.10 oz.) is a warm-toned, rosy pink with a matte finish. Chanel Liaison is brighter. Giorgio Armani Blush is a smidgen darker, less matte. NARS Bolero is lighter. MAC Reel Sexy is warmer. MAC Haute Altitutde is shinier. MAC Coral Bliss is warmer. Bobbi Brown Miami Coral is glossier. See comparison swatches.

It has opaque color, and the consistency was just barely creamy, so there was some tugging and dragging during application. The real downside is that this is one of the most drying formulas I’ve come across, and with full disclosure, this is the only shade I’ve tried. I believe I bought another shade or two, but my lips weren’t just dried out but partially cracked, and I had to take a couple days off to let them heal–and I’m just not sure I want to go through all of that again. It smelled lightly like vanilla and baby powder. Petal Kiss wore for four and a half hours when I tested it.
