L’Oreal Colour Riche Lipstick

L'Oreal Ballerina Shoes (135) Colour Riche Lipstick
L’Oreal Ballerina Shoes (135) Colour Riche Lipstick

L’Oreal Colour Riche Lipstick ($8.95 for 0.13 oz.) is supposed to combine “luxuriously rich color” and “intensely rich hydration” for a creamy, moisturizing, and pigmented lipstick formula. The pigmentation seems to vary from shade to shade–some true-to-description, others are sheerer. Generally, they aren’t drying, but some shades are just a little moisturizing, others are moderately so, and then a few seem to be neither drying nor hydrating. The three I have here for you show how the formula can vary. They have a fairly strong perfume-y scent.

Ballerina Shoes (135) Colour Riche Lipstick ($8.95 for 0.13 oz.) is a light-medium pink with warm, yellow undertones and a frosted finish. This is not just shimmer–this is a genuine frosted finish, which isn’t for everyone. It had semi-opaque color coverage. It wore well for two and a half hours and was neither drying nor hydrating. NYX Chic (P, $4.00) is pinker, less frosted. NARS Mitzi (P, $26.00) is sheerer, less pink. Guerlain Rose Desir (LE, $49.50) is less frosted. Guerlain Romance (LE, $35.00) is similar. See comparison swatches.

I Pink You’re Cute (175) Colour Riche Lipstick ($8.95 for 0.13 oz.) is a medium pink with warm, yellow undertones and a soft shine. It had semi-opaque color coverage and no shimmer. It wore well for three and a half hours and was lightly hydrating while worn. Givenchy Rose Taffetas (201) (P, $36.00) is lighter. Buxom Mistress (LE, $21.00) is not quite as warm, brighter. MAC Venus (LE, $15.00) is darker. MAC Sunny Seoul (LE, $15.00) is similar. See comparison swatches.

Pink Flamingo (180) Colour Riche Lipstick ($8.95 for 0.13 oz.) is a vibrant, fuchsia pink with cool, blue undertones and a luminous shine. It had mostly opaque color coverage applied, and the consistency was lightly creamy and applied evenly. It wore well for four hours and was lightly hydrating during that time. NARS Goodbye Emmanuelle (LE, $26.00) is lighter. MAC Playtime (LE, $16.00) is a touch lighter. NYX Pink Lyric (P, $4.00) is cooler-toned. MAC Outrageously Fun (LE, $15.00) is more magenta. Chanel Kensington (LE, $34.00) is similar. See comparison swatches.

Too Faced Red Stiletto & Sweet Maple La Creme Lipsticks

Too Faced Red Stiletto La Creme Lipstick
Too Faced Red Stiletto La Creme Lipstick

Too Faced Red Stiletto La Creme Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.11 oz.) is described as a “classic red.” It’s a slightly muted, medium red with warm, orange undertones and a luminous sheen. It had mostly opaque color coverage, and the consistency was very emollient and creamy. I did notice some feathering after four hours of wear, and the color lasted for four and a half hours well. It was lightly hydrating during that time. Revlon Provocateur (135) (P, $8.99) is more matte. Anna Sui Minnie Mouse (01) (LE) is brighter. Chanel Dialogue (P, $34.00) is slightly more muted, more matte. See comparison swatches.

Sweet Maple La Creme Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.11 oz.) is described as a “plum brown.” It’s a plum-tinged, medium brown with a natural shine. It had semi-opaque color coverage with some translucency all-over, so if you have naturally pigmented lips, this may look quite different on you as it is not fully opaque. The texture was lightly creamy though it had less slip compared to other shades of the La Creme formula, which was reflected in the finish–a soft sheen but not quite glossy. It wore well for three hours and was just a smidgen moisturizing while worn. bareMinerals Break Away (LE) is lighter, more matte. Givenchy Brun Cachemire (104) (P, $36.00) is a touch lighter. Urban Decay Strip (P, $22.00) is rosier. Bobbi Brown Soft Nude (P, $24.00) is more plum. MAC Glamour Era (P, $22.00) is warmer, browner. MAC Double Shot (P, $15.00) is darker, browner. Guerlain Avarice (P, $49.50) is more matte, slightly rosier. See comparison swatches.

Revlon Provocateur (135) ColorBurst Lacquer Balm

Revlon Provocateur (135) ColorBurst Lacquer Balm
Revlon Provocateur (135) ColorBurst Lacquer Balm

Provocateur (135) ColorBurst Lacquer Balm ($8.99 for 0.095 oz.) is a brightened, medium red with light, warm undertones and a soft sheen. Tom Ford Beauty Rouge Fatal (LE, $49.00) and Marc Jacobs Beauty Showstopper (134) (P, $30.00) are darker, slightly browner. Anna Sui Minnie Mouse (01) (LE) is very similar. MAC Night to Remember (LE, $15.00) is a touch warmer. MAC Must Be Red (LE, $15.00) is very similar. See comparison swatches.

This is the third shade I picked up from the ColorBurst Lacquer Balm line (you can see the first two reviewed here), and I’m definitely going to see if there are more available at my local store. The formula is permanent, but sometimes the initial display gets ravaged, and it takes a few weeks for permanent displays to be updated. Cross your fingers for me 🙂 Provocateur was mostly opaque; there was a hint of translucency but still quite pigmented. The consistency was lightweight, lightly creamy, somewhat balm-like (not quite as emollient), and this shade wore well for almost five hours and was lightly hydrating during that time.

Too Faced Spring 2014 La Creme Lipsticks

Too Faced Bon Bon La Creme Lipstick
Too Faced Spring 2014 La Creme Lipsticks

Too Faced La Creme Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.11 oz.) sees the introduction of five new shades for spring from pale peach to rich red. They’re true to the La Creme formula–creamy, balm-like consistency with good color payoff, glossy finishes, and moderate wear times. I didn’t notice any taste, but they had a sweet, lemony scent.  Jelly Bean was the best, while Taffy was disappointing.

Bon Bon is described as a “pink papaya.” It’s a pop of brightened, medium pink-coral with a glossy, luminous sheen. It had mostly opaque color coverage–just a hint of translucency, and it wore well for four and a half hours and was nicely hydrating when worn. Charlotte Tilbury Coachella Coral (P) is less glossy, slightly warmer. MAC Hoop (DC, $15.00) is much pinker. Givenchy Rose Dressing (202) (P, $36.00) is slightly darker. MAC Elegant Accent (P, $22.00) is very similar. MAC Watch Me Simmer (LE, $15.00) is more matte. MAC Heart to Heart (LE, $15.00) is pinker, more matte. Guerlain Giulette (P, $49.50) has shimmer, slightly pinker. Chanel Genial (LE, $34.00) is a touch pinker. See comparison swatches.

Jelly Bean is described as a “raspberry red.” It’s a deepened, brightened raspberry red with cool, blue undertones and a lightly glossy shine. It had rich, opaque color coverage, and it applied very smoothly and evenly. This shade lasted six hours and left a residual stain behind. It was moisturizing both during and after wear. Guerlain Provocative (863) (LE, $49.50) is redder. Urban Decay Catfight (P, $22.00) is very similar, slightly redder. Guerlain Girly (P, $49.50) is pinker. MAC Scan-delicious (LE, $19.00) is similar. Guerlain Champs-Elysees (P, $35.00) is pinker. See comparison swatches.

Lollipop is described as a “violet with orchid shimmer.” It’s a cool-toned, fuchsia-shimmered magenta with cool undertones. It had semi-opaque color coverage–it was a lot sheerer than other La Cremes. When I wore this shade, it was lightly hydrating and wore well for four hours. MAC Midnight Mambo (LE, $22.00) is similar, less shimmered. Revlon Lollipop (P, $7.49) is glossier, less shimmery. Milani Violet Volt (P, $5.49) is more matte, more shimmery. MAC Show Orchid (P, $15.00) is very similar in color but is not as glossy. See comparison swatches.

Pink Chocolate is described as a “berry brown.” It’s a warm, rosy plum with a glossy, luminous shine. It had mostly opaque color coverage, lasted four hours, and was nicely hydrating during that time. Laura Mercier Cozy (P, $24.00) is warmer, more matte. MAC Candy Apple (LE, $16.00) is redder. Chanel Ce Soir (P, $34.00) is slightly more muted, more matte. MAC Glamourdaze (LE, $15.00) is darker. MAC Brick-o-la (P, $15.00) is more matte. Buxom Hooligan (P, $21.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches.

Taffy is described as a “pink marshmallow nude.” It’s a light, pinky-peach with a luminous shine. This shade was really, really creamy, but it applied unevenly and seemed to emphasize every imperfection on the lip. It was extremely unforgiving, even on freshly exfoliated lips. This shade wore well for three hours and was moisturizing during that time. Chanel Melba (75) (LE, $34.00) is lighter. Urban Decay Native (P, $22.00) is slightly pinker. Revlon Pink Lemonade (P, $7.49) is very similar. See comparison swatches.

Revlon ColorBurst Lacquer Balm

Revlon Whimsical (115) ColorBurst Lacquer Balm
Revlon Whimsical (115) ColorBurst Lacquer Balm

Revlon ColorBurst Lacquer Balm ($8.99 for 0.095 oz.) is a newer lip color release from Revlon. I picked up a couple of shades from my local drugstore a few weeks ago, but it seems these are permanent as they’re available online. There are ten shades in total. The formula is supposed to have “high shine with balm-like moisture.” They are twist-up jumbo-sized pencils, so no sharpening is required. Though they seemed almost semi-sheer when swatched on the skin, they’re actually quite pigmented on the lips. They have a moderate level of shine, and they feel like a lighter-weight lip balm. I found both shades I tried to be somewhat hydrating–not quite as hydrating as the best lip balm but comfortable to wear. They had a mint scent and slight mint flavor.

Whimsical (115) ColorBurst Lacquer Balm ($8.99 for 0.095 oz.) is a medium-dark, subtly cool-toned pink with a luminous shine. It had semi-opaque color coverage and was mostly even. It wore well for four hours. Charlotte Tilbury Velvet Underground (P) is more matte. MAC Pleasure Bomb (LE, $15.00) is matte, redder, brighter. Guerlain Illusion (660) (LE, $35.00) is darker. Revlon Sorbet (P, $7.49) is similar. MAC Lickable (P, $15.00) is slightly pinker. See comparison swatches.

Vivacious (120) ColorBurst Lacquer Balm ($8.99 for 0.095 oz.) is a pinky-red with subtle warm undertones. This one had a less glossy/balm-like finish and more of a satin finish. It was very nearly opaque on lips, though, and it lasted for almost five hours. Charlotte Tilbury Velvet Underground (P) is cooler-toned. Tom Ford Beauty Aphrodisiac (LE, $49.00) is slightly pinker. MAC Impassioned (P, $15.00) is a touch brighter, more matte. Guerlain Gigi (P, $49.50) is similar. Guerlain Gourmandise (P, $49.50) is warmer. See comparison swatches.

Paul & Joe Beaute Once Upon a Time (081) Lipstick CS

Paul & Joe Beaute Once Upon a Time (081) Lipstick
Paul & Joe Beaute Once Upon a Time (081) Lipstick

Paul & Joe Beaute Lipstick CS ($17.00 for 0.10 oz.) is supposed to be incredibly hydrating with vibrant color and is sold as refills. You can choose your case design, which is colored cardboard with a pattern over it, and the cases cost $5 each (mine is encased with the 009 design). The formula was lightweight, moderately moisturizing, and has a rosy scent.

Once Upon a Time (081) is described as a “bright and bold pumpkin shade, reminiscent of Cinderella’s carriage.” It’s a slightly lightened medium orange with warm, yellow and orange undertones and a soft shine. It had mostly opaque color coverage, and it wore well for four and a half hours. This type of orange is actually harder to dupe, because it has strong yellow undertones and doesn’t lean red at all. MAC Tart & Trendy (LE, $15.00) is darker. MAC Sounds Like Noise (LE, $15.00) is brighter. MAC Saigon Summer (LE, $15.00) is darker. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Banjee (P, $18.00) is yellower. See comparison swatches.
