Tom Ford Lip Shimmer

Tom Ford Solar Gold Lip Shimmer
Tom Ford Solar Gold Lip Shimmer

Tom Ford Lip Shimmer ($49.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a new formula released in two, limited edition shades for summer. These are supposed to give a “glimmering effect” or “veiled over [lipstick] to add radiant shimmer,” and the formula is supposed to be hydrating as well. If you’re not into sheer, shimmery color, you’ll want to just skip this post entirely; both shades are on the sheer side–mostly shimmer without a lot of color. I did not find the formula moisturizing; I actually felt like it was somewhat drying, and the high frost/shimmer content was a little uncomfortable to wear. Initially, it feels very slick and emollient–like a glaze–but it dries down and all that glossy goodness disappears and all that is left is shimmer, which has a noticeable texture once the shine is gone. I also tried the gold shade as a highlighter, but it’s somewhat tacky on the skin and doesn’t sit as well on the skin as a true liquid or cream highlighter does.

Tom Ford Solar Gold Lip Shimmer ($49.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a light-medium, yellow gold shimmer. It has a subtle base color that does seem to add warmth to my natural lip color, but the primary effect is shimmer. It lasted for two hours on me. MAC Playland (LE, $16.00) is more shimmery. Dolce and Gabbana Topazio (LE, $32.00) is slightly darker. MAC You’ve Got It (LE, $16.00) is lighter. MAC Ruffian Gold (LE, $16.00) is very similar. Guerlain Altoum (LE, $35.00) has larger sparkle. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Tom Ford Moonlight Lip Shimmer ($49.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a frosted, silvery-white with a high frost finish. This one was more pigmented–it had semi-sheer color coverage–but this felt so drying when worn for longer than an hour, though it managed two and a half hours. MAC Eloquent Air (LE, $16.00) is very similar. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Iced (P, $18.00) is more pigmented, more metallic. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Guerlain Geraldine (77) & Geneva (48) Rouge G Lipsticks

Guerlain Geraldine (77) Rouge G Lipstick
Guerlain Geraldine (77) Rouge G Lipstick

Guerlain Geraldine (77) Rouge G Lipstick ($51.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “luminous pink.” It’s a brightened, medium pink with cool, bluish undertones and a glossy shine. It had mostly opaque color coverage, and the color applied evenly and made lips smoother and plumper than they actually were (which is where Rouge Gs shine). The color wore well for five and a half hours, and it was nicely hydrating while worn. This is a new and permanent shade now available from the brand. Estee Lauder Infamous (P, $30.00) is brighter, less glossy. MAC Bold Spring (P, $22.00) is slightly more fuchsia. YSL Fuchsia Tourbillon (31) (P, $34.00) is darker. L’Oreal Pink Flamingo (180) (P, $8.95) is less glossy. NARS Goodbye Emmanuelle (LE, $26.00) is lighter. MAC Playtime (LE, $17.00) is purpler. NYX Pink Lyric (P, $4.00) is darker, more muted. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Guerlain Geneva (48) Rouge G Lipstick ($51.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “blood orange.” It’s a coral-orange with warm undertones and a slightly muted quality to it; the color is still vibrant, but it’s not neon. The finish is glossy and luminous, which makes lips look healthier than they do bare. It had rich, opaque color coverage that applied evenly and smoothly. It wore well for almost six hours, and it was extremely hydrating while worn and after it wore away. This is a new and permanent shade now available from the brand. Dior Sunset (660) (LE, $34.00) is more shimmery, slightly lighter. Estee Lauder Defiant Coral (P, $30.00) is a bit brighter. Bite Beauty Crush (P, $28.00) is lighter. Marc Jacobs Beauty Shout (138) (LE, $30.00) is less glossy, pinker. Givenchy Rose Dentelle (203) (P, $36.00) is similar. Too Faced Coral Fire (P, $21.00) is lighter, more matte. MAC Lady at Play (P, $22.00) is slightly darker, less glossy. MAC Hibiscus (LE, $16.00) is more shimmery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC x Proenza Schouler Pro Longwear Eyeliners & Lip Pencils

MAC Rich Experience Pro Longwear Eyeliner
MAC Rich Experience Pro Longwear Eyeliner

MAC x Proenza Schouler Collection includes Pro Longwear Eyeliners ($21.00 for 0.04 oz.) in two, permanent shades and Pro Longwear Lip Pencils ($21.00 for 0.04 oz.) in two, permanent shades. I’ve reviewed all four of these previously, so you can read about the full reviews for: Pro Longwear Eyeliners and Pro Longwear Lip Pencils. This post only features photos of the pencils in the limited edition packaging, but the colors, textures, etc. are all the same. (I did re-test them, just in case!)

The Pro Longwear Eyeliner formula was disappointing to me, as they appear noticeably faded by the eight-hour mark–not the twelve hours as claimed–and they aren’t waterproof. They have a lightly creamy consistency that is fairly waxy but needs to be built up for opaque color.

Rich Experience is described as a “true brown.” It’s a dark brown with subtle warm undertones and a satin finish. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Black Ice is described as a “rich black.” It’s a medium-dark black with a satin finish and neutral undertones. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

The Pro Longwear Lip Pencil formula wears long and hard, though they’re pretty uncomfortable to wear by themselves as they cling and feel more like shrink-wrap on the lips. Underneath lipstick, they definitely add anywhere from an hour to three hours of additional wear, depending on the shade, and they don’t seem to interfere with the way the lipstick itself feels/hydrates, so they’re a lot more comfortable to wear with lipstick or lipgloss on top. They have good color payoff and apply quite evenly.

Dynamo is described as a “bright peony.” It’s a brightened, medium-dark pink-coral with a matte finish. MAC Dynamo (P, $19.50) Urban Decay Streak (P, $19.00) is the closest that I could think of, but it is warmer and more orange. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

High Energy is described as a “bright orange-red cream.” It’s a medium-dark, orange-red with warm undertones and a matte finish. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC x Proenza Schouler Lipsticks
MAC x Proenza Schouler Lipsticks

MAC x Proenza Schouler Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.10 oz.) come in four, limited edition shades. The collection launches online on April 21st and in-stores on April 24th. Each lipstick is housed in metallic, square tubes.

Mangrove is described as a “bright clean orange-red [with a Matte finish].” It’s a brightened, medium coral-red with warm, orange undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had rich, opaque color coverage that applied evenly and smoothly without dragging or tugging at the lip during application. This shade wore well for six hours and left a stain behind, though it was just slightly drying. MAC Dangerous (P, $16.00) is darker. MAC Rozz (LE, $16.00) is redder. MAC Scarlet Ibis (LE, $16.00) is darker. MAC Lady Danger (P, $16.00) is darker, more orange. Hourglass Muse (P, $28.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Pinkfringe is described as a “vivid flamingo pink [with a Satin finish].” It’s a brightened, light-medium pink with subtle neutral-to-warm undertones and a soft, frosted finish. It had mostly opaque color payoff, and the texture was very creamy and emollient, so it did create “lines” if you pressed your lips together. The color wore well for four hours on me and was neither drying nor hydrating. YSL Fetish Pink (8) (P, $34.00) is less shimmery, a little lighter. MAC What a Feeling! (LE, $20.00) is sheerer. Too Faced Razzle Dazzle Rose (P, $21.00) is sheerer. Maybelline Pink Pop (P, $7.49) is cooler-toned, less shimmery. MAC Divine Choice (P, $22.00) is cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Primrose is described as a “sheer berry plum [with a Lustre finish].” It’s a medium-dark, cool-toned berry plum with a glossy shine. It had semi-opaque color coverage that applied somewhat unevenly with a little settling of the color into lip lines. As the color wore away, it did seem to migrate and settle more into the lip lines. It managed to wear four hours and left a stain behind, which is quite long for a Lustre finish, and it wasn’t drying. Inglot #293 Lipstick Cream (P, $12.00) is more opaque. YSL Forbidden Burgundy (12) (P, $34.00) is brighter.Marc Jacobs Beauty Seduce Me (128) (P, $30.00) is lighter, brighter. Urban Decay Venom (P, $22.00) is more shimmery. MAC Rebel (P, $16.00) is slightly cooler-toned, less glossy. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Woodrose is described as a “light pink with beige [with a Lustre finish].” It’s a light beige with a rosy tint and a soft shine. It had mostly opaque pigmentation, though Lustres are a sheerer range, so it is unusually opaque. The consistency was creamy with enough slip to apply without tugging, and it applied evenly the most part. It wore well for three and a half hours and was a little drying. MAC Pure Pout (P, $22.00) is warmer. Maybelline Blushing Beige (915) (P, $7.49) is not quite as pink. MAC Innocence Beware (LE, $16.00) is slightly cooler-toned. MAC Crème d’Nude (P, $16.00) is slightly warmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Playland Lipsticks

MAC Lipstick -- Happy-Go-Lucky, Head in the Clouds, Playland, Red Balloon, Sweet Experience, Toying Around<
MAC Lipstick — Happy-Go-Lucky, Head in the Clouds, Playland, Red Balloon, Sweet Experience, Toying Around

MAC Playland launches April 10th April 15th (MAC corporate confirmed as of 4/10 8:26AM PST) online, April 17th in-stores/counters, and it includes six new and limited edition shades of lipstick.

Head in the Clouds is described as a “red with pearl [with a Frost finish].” It’s a vibrant, cherry red with subtle cool undertones and a gold micro-shimmer. It had mostly opaque color coverage, and it applied evenly and easily as the consistency was lightly creamy and didn’t tug on the lips during application. The color wore well for five and a half hours and left a stain behind. It was neither drying nor hydrating. MAC Viva Glam Rihanna (LE, $16.00) is darker, pinker. Chanel Enigmatique (135) (P, $34.00) is warmer, less glossy. NARS Dressed to Kill (P, $26.00) is darker. Milani Cherry Crave (P, $5.49) is more matte. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Playland is described as a “frosted yellow gold [with a Frost finish].” It’s a medium, yellow gold with a metallic finish. It had semi-sheer color coverage, but the texture of the lipstick was somewhat on the drier side, so it didn’t apply as evenly as one would like. It is also unforgiving if your lips are not in tip-top shape, so those with naturally drier/chapped lips will want to do additional prep before applying this shade. It lasted for two and a half hours and was lightly drying during that time. Dolce and Gabbana Topazio (LE, $32.00) is slightly darker. MAC Ruffian Gold (LE, $16.00) is sheerer. Guerlain Altoum (LE, $35.00) is sheerer. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Triptych (P, $18.00) is more opaque, more metallic. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Sweet Experience is described as a “bright pink [with an Amplified finish].” It’s a light-medium pink with subtle, yellow undertones and a satin finish. It had opaque color coverage, and the consistency was lightly creamy and didn’t tug or drag on the lips. It lasted for four hours when I tested it for wear and was neither drying nor hydrating. MAC Vivid Image (LE, $16.00) is lighter. MAC Please Me (P, $16.00) is a few shades darker. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Femme (P, $18.00) is very similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Happy Go-Lucky is described as a “hot pink [with an Amplified finish].” It’s a vibrant, medium-dark magenta pink with cool, blue undertones and a natural sheen. It had rich, opaque pigmentation, and the texture of the lipstick was smooth, creamy, and easy to apply. This shade managed to wear for five hours and left behind a noticeable stain that lingered for another hour and a half. It was very lightly hydrating over time. Sephora + Pantone Universe Radiant Rush (LE, $18.00) is darker, less glossy. Bite Beauty Moscato (P, $28.00) is brighter. Chanel La Diva (44) (P, $34.00) is more matte. NARS Full Frontal (LE, $26.00) is more muted. Ardency Inn Twist (P, $25.00) is darker. MAC Dear Diary (LE, $18.00) is darker. MAC Outrageously Fun (LE, $16.00) is more muted. MAC Candy Yum Yum (P, $16.00) is slightly darker. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Nylon (P, $18.00) is brighter, cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Red Balloon is described as a “hot fuchsia [with an Amplified finish].” It’s a brightened, medium-dark, cool-toned pink with a softly luminous finish. It had full color coverage, and the color applied evenly and smoothly as the consistency of the lipstick was lightly creamy. The color lasted for five and a half hours, and it was very lightly hydrating while worn. Guerlain Rose Grenat (864) (LE, $49.50) is redder, darker. Estee Lauder Dominant (P, $30.00) is cooler-toned. Tom Ford Beauty Incorrigible (08) (LE, $49.00) is lighter, more muted. Charlotte Tilbury Velvet Underground (P) is slightly cooler-toned, darker. MAC Pleasure Bomb (LE, $16.00) is darker, more matte. MAC Moxie (LE, $16.00) is more matte, slightly cooler-toned. MAC Girl About Town (P, $16.00) is darker, cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Toying Around is described as a “hot coral pink [with an Amplified finish].” It’s a brightened, medium coral-orange with a soft shine. It had rich, totally opaque pigmentation when applied to the lips, and the color went on evenly, smoothly, and lasted for five hours. The formula was neither drying nor hydrating. Dior Sunset (660) (LE, $34.00) is darker, more shimmery. Estee Lauder Defiant Coral (P, $30.00) is slightly darker. Revlon Snow Peach (LE, $7.99) is pinker. Bite Beauty Crush (P, $28.00) is brighter. Tom Ford Beauty Paradiso (07) (LE, $49.00) is pinker. Marc Jacobs Beauty Shout (138) (LE, $30.00) is darker, pinker. Charlotte Tilbury Coachella Coral (P) is slightly pinker, more matte. Givenchy Rose Dressing (202) (P, $36.00) is pinker, darker. MAC Elegant Accent (P, $22.00) is pinker. MAC Watch Me Simmer (LE, $16.00) is pinker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Bite Beauty Crush Cashmere Lip Cream

Bite Beauty Crush Cashmere Lip Cream
Bite Beauty Crush Cashmere Lip Cream

Bite Beauty Crush Cashmere Lip Cream ($28.00 for 0.26 fl. oz.) is described as a “reddish coral.” It’s a vibrant–nearly neon–coral-red with warm undertones and a satin finish. Dior Sunset (660) (LE, $34.00) is more shimmery, less neon. Estee Lauder Defiant Coral (P, $30.00) is a smidgen lighter. Givenchy Rose Dentelle (203) (P, $36.00) is darker, more muted. Too Faced Coral Fire (P, $21.00) is more muted. Givenchy Rose Dressing (202) (P, $36.00) is pinker. MAC Watch Me Simmer (LE, $16.00) is pinker. Make Up For Ever #37 (P, $19.00) is slightly darker, pinker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

The formula is supposed to be a “cream-to-powder matte lip color that delivers an unprecedented 50 percent pigment dispersion.” There’s no question that Crush is intensely pigmented–full, opaque color coverage is easily delivered in a single layer. The consistency is creamy, not too thin or too thick, but it retains a slight slip, so it’s comfortable to wear. It was neither drying nor hydrating on me over the six hours it lasted, and it does leave behind a stain that lingers for another hour or two. I didn’t have any issues with the color feathering or bleeding outside my lip line. The formula has a slight herbal-ish scent that’s very subtle–I only really notice if I smell the actual applicator, but I don’t notice it when it is applied (and there’s no discernible taste). As I’ve mentioned before, the only potential issue is really that it’s not a matte finish from the get-go; it takes at least two hours for the satin finish to wear down to something more matte.
