Bobbi Brown Pink Flush, Pink Gold, Pink Rose Sheer Lip Colors

Bobbi Brown Pink Flush Sheer Lip Color
Bobbi Brown Pink Flush Sheer Lip Color

For spring, Bobbi Brown released three, limited edition shades of her Sheer Lip Color formula in shades of pink. Just as a heads up, Pink Rose is part of the permanent range, but its availability in silver packaging is limited. If you’re not familiar with the formula, it’s described as a “lightweight formula” with an effortless wash of color plus nourishing shine.” As you might have guessed, it has sheerer color coverage and is supposed to be hydrating. Neither Pink Flush nor Pink Rose what I’d consider sheer or a wash of color, though you could certainly use the tiniest amount, but just passing the bullet across the top and bottom lips resulted in fairly opaque color coverage (which for some is a happy accident, and others, undesirable). Pink Gold was a more accurate representation of a sheer wash of color–noticeable color but sheer overall. The texture is the kind that feels almost stiff initially but as it warms up against the lip, it glides on better. It has a somewhat clingy feel on the lips, so it can catch on any dry flakes if you have them. There’s a slight sheen that wears away after an hour or so to a duller shine. They formula, on me, was only lightly hydrating.

Bobbi Brown Pink Flush Sheer Lip Color ($25.00 for 0.13 oz.) is described as a “medium tone pink.” It’s a medium, subtly cool-toned pink with a luminous sheen. I waffled between the undertone; it looked just slightly bluish against my skin tone. It had mostly opaque color coverage. This shade wore well for four hours on me. NARS Villa Lante (LE, $25.00) is lighter, cooler-toned. MAC What a Feeling! (LE, $20.00) is similar. Buxom Mistress (LE, $21.00) is warmer, brighter. Too Faced Razzle Dazzle Rose (P, $21.00) is similar. Urban Decay Obsessed (P, $22.00) is a touch lighter. Le Metier de Beaute Fiji (P, $32.00) is slightly darker. See comparison swatches.

Pink Gold Sheer Lip Color ($25.00 for 0.13 oz.) is described as a “light shimmer gold.” It’s a champagne and gold-shimmered, rosy brown. Applied, it added warmth to the natural lip color, but the primarily visible element was the pale bronze shimmer. It had a frostier finish, which looked a little clingy (and felt that way) with sheer color. This shade lasted two hours on me. Chanel Secret (85) (LE, $34.00) is similar applied. Tom Ford Beauty Frolic (P, $48.00) is warmer. MAC Shanghai Spice (LE, $16.00) is pinker. MAC Lush Amber (LE, $16.00) is similar applied. MAC Cusp of Dawn (LE, $16.00) is darker. Chanel Peregrina (P, $34.00) is lighter. Chanel Patchouli (LE, $34.00) is more shimmery. See comparison swatches.

Pink Rose Sheer Lip Color ($25.00 for 0.13 oz.) is described as a “blue tone pink.” It’s a medium-dark, rosy pink with subtle cool undertones and a subtle sheen. It had semi-opaque color coverage and wore well for four and a half hours. MAC Love Beam (LE, $20.00) is lighter. Guerlain Madame Reve (862) (LE, $49.50) is brighter. MAC Plumful (P, $16.00) is slightly plum. Bobbi Brown Wild Rose (LE, $24.00) is brighter, pinker. See comparison swatches.

OCC Pleasure Model & Hollywood Lip Tars

OCC Pleasure Model Lip Tar
OCC Pleasure Model Lip Tar

For spring, OCC’s bringing us Plastic Passion, which features six new Lip Tars, two of which I have ready to review for you today. Though I was pretty jazzed about Pool Boy, I have to admit, I was really, really excited for the new metallic Lip Tars, because they looked like they would work beautifully as highlighters, too. They’re both subtle highlighters–they give off a lovely glowing sheen that’s more apparent in person than in photos, but it’s a little dewy, slightly luminous. As highlighters, they wore well for eight hours. As lip colors, the finish and lightness of both shades made them high maintenance shades–it’s imperative to exfoliate prior to applying so that they look and apply smoothly and evenly.

OCC Pleasure Model Lip Tar ($18.00 for 0.33 fl. oz.) is described as a “pearlescent pink.” It’s a light-medium, rosy pink with subtle warm, peach undertones and a cooler pink iridescent sheen. It was mostly opaque on lips, but some of the natural lip color peeks through. The thing I noticed about this shade on the lips was that between the lighter color and the frostier, more metallic finish, it’s unforgiving if you have any imperfections–it’s definitely a higher maintenance lip color. I highly recommend exfoliating prior to applying it. It wore five hours on me, which is longer than the average lipstick, but short for a Lip Tar.  I mixed this to brighten, warm, and add a little shimmer to Mannequin Lip Tar, and it mixed well. NARS Paimpol (P, $25.00) is lighter, and it looks a lot different applied. MAC Annemiek (LE, $22.00) is cooler-toned. Guerlain Rose Innocent (LE, $49.50) is pinker, cooler-toned. See comparison swatches.

Hollywood Lip Tar ($18.00 for 0.33 fl. oz.) is described as a “beige/gold shimmer.” It’s a light peachy-beige with a golden sheen. It had mostly opaque color coverage, but it had a very slight translucency that allowed the natural lip color to come through a bit. Like Pleasure Model, I think it is one of the more unforgiving Lip Tars, as it will catch on any imperfections on the lips. This shade also lasted five hours on me. MAC You’ve Got It (LE, $16.00) has a similar sheen but is pinker and sheerer. MAC Warm Companion (LE, $16.00) is sheerer. MAC Secret Lover (LE, $16.00) is cooler-toned. See comparison swatches.

Guerlain Attrape-Coeur (171) Rouge Automatique Lipstick

Guerlain Attrape-Coeur (171) Rouge Automatique Lipstick
Guerlain Attrape-Coeur (171) Rouge Automatique Lipstick

Guerlain Attrape-Coeur (171) Rouge Automatique Lipstick ($34.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “spicy, cheerful pink.” It’s a vibrant, coral-pink with warm undertones and a luminous sheen. Chanel Melodieuse (136) (P, $34.00) is slightly darker. Too Faced Bon Bon (P, $21.00) is glossier, slightly warmer. Givenchy Magnolia Organza (301) (P, $36.00) is darker. Charlotte Tilbury Coachella Coral (P) is similar. Givenchy Rose Dressing (202) (P, $36.00) MAC Elegant Accent (P, $22.00) is similar. MAC Watch Me Simmer (LE, $16.00) is also similar. MAC Force of Love (LE, $16.00) is pinker. MAC Betty Bright (LE, $16.00) is lighter. Guerlain Giulette (P, $49.50) is shimmery. Chanel Genial (LE, $34.00) is brighter. See comparison swatches.

This is a new and limited shade from Guerlain’s spring collection. It’s a very pink-leaning coral, so cooler-toned complexions may really gravitate towards it as it shouldn’t turn orange on them. The consistency was lightweight, moderately creamy, and it applied evenly over the lips. It almost melted as it glided over the lips, as the color looked very smooth when worn–lips just looked nicer and healthier. The texture did seem slightly more emollient than some of the other shades in the Rouge Automatique, and it seemed to result in shorter wear of just shy of five hours (it’s a more long-wearing formula–some shades wear for as long as eight hours on me). The color coverage was opaque, and this was a very comfortable shade to wear as it was nicely hydrating both while I wore and the hydration lasted as it wore away.

Maybelline Touchable Taupe, Stormy Sahara, Untainted Spice, Espresso Exposed ColorSensational Lip Colors

Maybelline Touchable Taupe (940) ColorSensational Lip Color
Maybelline Touchable Taupe (940) ColorSensational Lip Color

For spring, Maybelline’s added ten shades of “nude” that range from the very, very palest beige to muted mauves to deep plums. I greatly appreciate that Maybelline considered the spectrum of skin tones when they thought about flesh-colored lipsticks, because what’s “nude” for one skin tone isn’t going to be nude for everyone.  Here are the last four from the new set of shades!  My favorite in this set was Untainted Spice.

Maybelline Touchable Taupe (940) ColorSensational Lip Color ($7.49 for 0.15 oz.) is medium-dark, muted brown with hints of rose and beige and a luminous finish. It had full, opaque color coverage, and it applied evenly and smoothly. It wore well for four and a half hours and was nicely hydrating during that time. MAC Bad Girl RiRi (LE, $16.00) is pinker and more matte. MAC Glamour Era (P, $22.00) is warmer, more matte. MAC Mocha (LE, $16.00) is more matte. MAC Double Shot (P, $16.00) is darker. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Marion (P, $18.00) is similar in color but matte. Bobbi Brown Uber Nude (P, $24.00) is slightly darker. See comparison swatches.

Stormy Sahara (945) ColorSensational Lip Color ($7.49 for 0.15 oz.) is medium, muted orange with a luminous shine. It had mostly opaque color coverage, and while the texture was creamy and comfortable to wear, it did streak a little. It wore well for four hours and was lightly hydrating. Urban Decay Naked 2 (P, $22.00) is lighter. Edward Bess Forbidden Flower (P, $32.00) is slightly warmer. Tom Ford Beauty Abandon (P, $48.00) is browner. NARS Isola Bella (P, $25.00) is similar. MAC Posh Tone (P, $22.00) is also similar. MAC Delectable (LE, $16.00) is lighter. MAC Cozy Up (LE, $16.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches.

Untainted Spice (950) ColorSensational Lip Color ($7.49 for 0.15 oz.) is a medium-dark, brownish-plum with a luminous shine. It had mostly opaque pigmentation when applied to the lips. The consistency was very creamy and emollient, and it applied smoothly to the lips without streaking or settling into lip lines. This shade wore well for almost five hours and was somewhat hydrating when worn. Chanel Farouche (122) (P, $34.00) is more matte. MAC Glamourdaze (LE, $16.00) is more plum. Chanel Bel Ami (P, $34.00) is less brown. Chanel Baroque (LE, $34.00) is more matte. Chanel Imperial (DC, $32.00) is warmer. MAC Sheer Plum (P, $16.00) is similar. See comparison swatches.

Espresso Exposed (955) ColorSensational Lip Color ($7.49 for 0.15 oz.) is a cool-toned, reddish-burgundy with a glossy shine. It had semi-opaque color coverage, but it applied very unevenly. It looked streaky on, possibly due to how creamy/emollient the consistency was. The color lasted six hours and left behind a stain, and it was somewhat hydrating during that time. I had some feathering along the upper lip lines, though, which is highly unusual for me. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Black Metal Dahlia (P, $18.00) is metallic. Urban Decay Shame (P, $22.00) is slightly darker. See comparison swatches.

Maybelline Maple Kiss, Truffle Tease, Sin-a-mon ColorSensational Lip Color

Maybelline Maple Kiss (925) ColorSensational Lip Color
Maybelline Maple Kiss (925) ColorSensational Lip Color

For spring, Maybelline’s added ten shades of “nude” that range from the very, very palest beige to muted mauves to deep plums. I greatly appreciate that Maybelline considered the spectrum of skin tones when they thought about flesh-colored lipsticks, because what’s “nude” for one skin tone isn’t going to be nude for everyone.  This is the next set of three that I’ve finished testing, and my favorite from these three is Maple Kiss, as it applies really nicely and wears well.  The other two are more emollient, so they slip more and do not apply quite as evenly.

Maybelline Maple Kiss (925) ColorSensational Lip Color ($7.49 for 0.15 oz.) is a muted, coppery brown with a satin finish and warm undertones. It had mostly opaque color coverage, and the consistency was lightly creamy and glided on evenly and smoothly. It was very forgiving on lips and made them look smoother than they actually were. The color wore well for five hours and was lightly hydrating. Too Faced Sweet Maple (P, $21.00) is pinker, lesls brown. Givenchy Brun Cachemire (104) (P, $36.00) is lighter. MAC Mocha (LE, $16.00) is less warm-toned, matte. Maybelline Mochachino (P, $7.49) is warmer, more shimmery. MAC Sheer Plum (P, $16.00) See comparison swatches.

Truffle Tease (930) ColorSensational Lip Color ($7.49 for 0.15 oz.) is a light-medium, peachy-beige with subtle warm undertones and an almost gray-cast at times. It had mostly opaque color coverage, and it applied evenly for the most part. The finish was glossier than some of the other shades–more luminous than satin. This shade lasted for three and a half hours on me and was lightly hydrating. Marc Jacobs Beauty Dizzy Spell (104) (P, $30.00) is pinker, lighter. Givenchy Beige Mousseline (101) (P, $36.00) is a bit lighter, more matte. Too Faced Naughty Nude (P, $21.00) is slightly warmer. Urban Decay Naked 2 (P, $22.00) is a touch browner. NARS Biscayne Park (P, $25.00) is slightly warmer. MAC Delectable (LE, $16.00) is warmer, more matte. MAC Wholesome (LE, $16.00) is lighter. MAC Cozy Up (LE, $16.00) is a smidgen warmer. See comparison swatches.

Sin-a-mon (935) ColorSensational Lip Color ($7.49 for 0.15 oz.) is a cool-toned, gray-tinged light-medium beige with a luminous sheen. It was semi-opaque, so it allowed the natural lip color to come through (which makes it look a little rosier when applied than when swatched). It applied evenly for the most part, and the color lasted for three and a half hours. It was somewhat hydrating.  MAC To the Future (P, $18.00) is lighter. MAC Naked Bliss (LE, $16.00) is much lighter. MAC Japanese Maple (LE, $16.00) is similar. See comparison swatches.

NARS Final Cut Satin Lip Pencils

NARS Final Cut Collection
NARS Final Cut Collection

NARS Final Cut Satin Lip Pencils ($25.00 for 0.07 oz. each) includes four limited edition shades that are exclusive to Nordstrom (in the U.S.; Holt Renfrew in Canada, Selfridges in the UK). If you like Satin Lip Pencils, I see no reason why you wouldn’t like the formula of these, with the exception of Stourhead, which will require significant prep work, patience, and reduced expectations. They’re nicely pigmented, fairly comfortable to wear, and have a good wear time. I wish they were as hydrating as they claim, but they’re not drying at least.  I wish that there was a bigger difference between Descanso and Torres del Paine, as they look surprisingly similar for shades included in a single collection.

Descanso is described as a “tea rose.” It’s a light-medium, rosy peach with a satin finish and warm undertones. It looks pinker on the lips than it does when swatched on the skin. The consistency was lightweight, creamy, and easy to apply. It had opaque color coverage, didn’t settle into lip lines, and was even. It lasted four hours on me and was lightly hydrating. Chanel Interlude (P, $34.00) is slightly darker. NARS Dolce Vita (P, $25.00) is darker, more matte. NARS Montego Bay (P, $26.00) is darker. MAC Reel Sexy (LE, $16.00) is slightly lighter, pinker. MAC Razzledazzler (LE, $16.00) is a touch warmer. Estee Lauder Naked (LE, $25.00) is more matte, lighter. Burberry Devon Sunset (P, $30.00) is glossier. See comparison swatches.

Stourhead is described as a “pale lavender pink.” It’s a pale, pink-tinted lavender with a satin finish and cool, blue undertones. The consistency wasn’t dry as I feared, and it felt lightweight, creamy, and seemed easy enough to apply, but it was difficult to apply evenly. It also settled into lip lines slightly from the initial application, but after an hour and a half of wear, it really migrated into all of my lip lines and looked a little like dry, cracked lips. It lasted two and a half hours on me. It had semi-opaque color coverage but was not as pigmented as the other three. Chanel Radieuse (217) (LE, $34.00) is warmer, darker. MAC Beauty (LE, $16.00) is lighter, less pink. MAC Raspberry Swirl (LE, $16.00) is darker, cooler-toned. Chanel Candeur (P, $34.00) is similar. Bobbi Brown Orchid Pink (LE, $23.00) is pinker. See comparison swatches.

Torres del Paine is described as a “peach coral.” It’s a light-medium peachy orange with a satin finish. It had mostly opaque color coverage, and the consistency was lightly creamy and applied evenly. The color wore well for four hours and was slightly moisturizing. And no, your eyes aren’t deceiving you, this is strangely similar to Descanso; this shade being slightly warmer with no rosy tone to it. MAC Touche (LE, $20.00) is sheerer. MAC Gotta Dash! (P, $16.00) is very similar. Edward Bess Forbidden Flower (P, $32.00) is slightly lighter. Burberry Pink Apricot (301) (P, $30.00) is more muted, matte. NARS Lodhi (P, $25.00) is darker, brighter. MAC Style Surge (P, $22.00) is darker. See comparison swatches.

Villa Lante is described as a “cherry blossom pink.” It’s a cool-toned, medium pink with strong, blue undertones and a satin finish. This shade had mostly opaque color coverage, and it applied evenly for the most part. It lasted for four hours on me and was neither drying nor hydrating. NARS Goodbye Emmanuelle (LE, $26.00) is brighter, darker. MAC Steady Going (LE, $16.00) is more matte but very close in color. MAC Playtime (LE, $16.00) is brighter. Urban Decay Obsessed (P, $22.00) is less blue-based. MAC Raspberry Swirl (LE, $16.00) is lighter. MAC Divine Choice (P, $22.00) is very similar. MAC Pink Nouveau (P, $16.00) is cooler-toned. MAC Naughty Saute (LE, $16.00) is cooler-toned. See comparison swatches.
