Illamasqua Move Intense Lipgloss
Illamasqua Move Intense Lipgloss

Ultra Wearable, Ultra Opaque Lipgloss!

Illamasqua Move Intense Lipgloss ($19.00)  is a bit of a reprieve from some of the brighter Illamasqua glosses, yeah?   Move is a muted, played-down pink-plum.  It totally makes me think “sugar plum fairy” as a description, actually.  It’s a truly opaque gloss that completely covers my natural lip color and really works on its own–it doesn’t take on the characteristics of my natural lip color at all.

Intense Lipglosses are amazing for the gloss addict who struggles with the multitude of sheer glosses on the market.  They’re so rich and pigmented, so they’re great worn alone for color, but you don’t have to worry about layering a gloss on top to achieve the glossy finish.  They’re scent-and taste-free, which makes them good for those with more sensitive senses, too!   Oh, and they’re non-sticky, too.  Not super thick but not featherweight either–it’s smooth, thin enough to move around, but not so thin it slips around.

The packaging is so-so — it’s a squeeze tube with a slanted tip for application.  I think a wand applicator may have been more appropriate, just because you could really get some precision with it, since this isn’t a product you can be loose with!  It’s slim, though, which makes it convenient to stash in purses or makeup bags.  Each tube contains plenty of product, and you really don’t need much to get full color-coverage, either, which is nice.

I’ve found that I get quite a bit of wear out of these, too.  The glossiness does fade after two hours or so, but the color itself works hard for four to six hours, sometimes longer.

Illamasqua Temper Intense Lipgloss
Illamasqua Temper Intense Lipgloss

The Summer Season: Illamasqua Temper Intense Lipgloss

Illamasqua Temper Intense Lipgloss ($19.00) is a fiery orange red with a creamy, glossy finish.  It’s a wickedly bright–but neon–orange-red.  I can see this working really well with deeper skin tones and warmer complexions in particular.  I love the pigmentation of this lipgloss, because it makes no bones about what you’re wearing.  Intense Lipgloss isn’t for the fainthearted!  It’s long-wearing with the gloss wearing off after about an hour and a half, but the color itself clinging on for three to four hours and leaving behind a decent stain that wears on for another hour or two.  It’s scent- and taste-free, too, for those with more sensitive senses.

Is this the right orange lipgloss for you? Would you wear it?

The Summer Season is a series of posts featuring bright, vibrant shades of coral, orange, and pink lipsticks and lipglosses — all perfect for a summer of fun — that runs through July 2010.

Dior Ultra Gloss

Dior Ultra Gloss in Little Red Dress, Twin Set Pink, & Satin Peach

Today, I’ve got three more shades of Dior Ultra Gloss ($26.50 for 0.21 oz.) to show you! I reviewed these in full detail here, but to recap:

PROS: Non-sticky, moisturizing, glossy, dazzling shimmer (not gritty glitter)
CONS: Lasts less than two hours, so you’ll need to reapply

For the most part, Ultra Glosses definitely run on the sheerer side, but Little Red Dress is much more pigmented than the other six shades I’ve tried.  Satin Peach is a better version of NARS’ Orgasm lipgloss in my opinion, as it’s more moisturizing with a glossier finish.

  • Little Red Dress (856) is a brightened, cherry red with golden shimmer. It’s nearly opaque on my lips, and it’s impressively opaque for a lipgloss.
  • Twin Set Pink (157) is a semi-sheer champagne-nude with champagne and gold micro-shimmer.
  • Satin Peach (236) is a sheer milky beige with a slight pinkyness to it and golden-peach micro-shimmer.

Illamasqua Mistress Intense Lipgloss
Illamasqua Mistress Intense Lipgloss

The Summer Season: Illamasqua Mistress Intense Lipgloss

Illamasqua Mistress Intense Lipgloss ($19.00) is a creamy, orange-coral with fierce pigmentation and a juicy, plump look. Illamasqua’s Intense Lipglosses really feel like liquid lipsticks sometimes, just because they’re so packed with color, have the look and feel of both a gloss and lipstick. They’re non-sticky, too, and while the gloss parts fades after an hour or two, the color itself remains for a solid four to five.

Is this the right coral lipgloss for you? Would you wear it?

Guerlain Cashmere Gloss
Sable (#01), Ambre (#04), Ebene (#06)

Guerlain Terracotta Lip Gloss ($30.00) is a lightweight, non-sticky lipgloss that delivers subtle color with SPF 15. It’s a very moisturizing formula that lasts about two hours on my lips. The shades themselves are sheer in color, but they really have an excellent formula. I’ve tried three of the six shades that came out — there are also: Sierra (#02), Grenade (#03), and Santal (#05).

  • Sable (#01) is a beige nude with champagne shimmer. It adds a little beige to my natural lip color, but mostly, it mutes the natural rose tint of my lips down a bit. I like this kind of shade with a smoky eye, either alone or over a nude lipstick.
  • Ambre (#04) is a softened red-coral with fine gold shimmer. It’s muted, it’s sheer, but it still delivers a significant amount of color without being thick or goopy. I like this shade, because I think it would be universally flattering–it’s not at all orange.
  • Ebene (#06) is a lush reddened, ambered bronze. It’s one of the most pigmented shades of the three I tried. Loved the consistency — smooth, even color that doesn’t sink into lip lines.

Guerlain describes the applicator as ergonomic, but I have to tell you, it was really awkward for me. I don’t know if it’s perhaps more to do with the length of the applicator or the handle, but it felt a little wobbly in my hands, personally–but I would say I have bigger hands with longer fingers (I blame my piano playing years!), so that could be it, too.

They feel like a glossy, thicker lip balm, but they’re on the thinner side for a lipgloss. They still deliver the shine and glossiness that you’d expect in a gloss, but they keep lips looking full, pouty, and soft while you wear ‘em. They have a slight scent, like most Guerlain lip products, but it seems subtler than is par for the brand.

MAC To the Beach Collection
MAC Lipglasses: Flurry of Fun, Easy Lounger, Splashing

MAC To the Beach Collection — Lipglass Reviews, Photos, Swatches

MAC’s To the Beach Collection features four limited edition lipsticks from champagne-gold to deep berry, with each retailing for $14.

  • Flurry of Fun is a sheer, muted tangerine peach with iridescent teal shimmer–yes, teal.  The shimmer in this reminds me of Reflects Transparent Teal, which is kind of cool.
  • Easy Lounger is an ultra sheer light baby pink with silvered shimmer.  The shimmer in this gloss feels different than the average lipglass, to be honest.  It seems incredibly fine and brilliant.  The shade itself doesn’t do much on lips but add a glossy, shimmering look with no real color change.  It’d be nice over a darker lipstick, though.
  • Splashing is a medium pink with yellow undertones and soft champagne shimmer.  It’s pretty pigmented as far as lipglosses go, and it doesn’t emphasize lines too badly, though the milkiness of the gloss does seem to settle there.
